I've just tried out my recently acquired Draper 71462 wiper arm puller, and it worked a treat. It needed a bit of assistance in the form of a large spanner on the hexagonal hand wheel but apart from that it was OK. You can't beat having the proper tool for the job.

I got it online from Toolsnstuff ...... www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id...1

For drawing the wiper arm off its splined hub, yes? And
spares you the grunting and risk of damage to surrounding bits?
Neat, if that's the case.

It is indeed the case. Mine was so tight that even with the puller I had to turn the knob with a spanner. I doubt whether it would have been possible to get the arm off without the tool. I reckon that without the tool you risk pulling the shaft out of the car with the wiper arm still attached to the shaft!

I'm close to becoming a first time buyer and may need to sell my Ka to free up some funds for all the costs involved. Can anybody give me some indication as to what sort of money I could get for my car.

Back in the Nineties,Laindon(Essex)Concil was knocking down an old block of lock-up garages. In one, they found an Anglia dating back to the sixties.Investigation showed that the car had been reported stolen from the garages in the Sixties and the insurance company had paid out to the owner.Local police thought that the car had never been stolen at all,but the owner had somehow parked it in the wrong lock-up.

There's a good thread 'Which diesel for £3K?', started by Number-Cruncher, which is now on page 2. Have a look at that and you'll get some useful ideas.

It's here, as page 2 could eventually be page 3 or 4 or...

After the triumph of the jeweller´s rouge on the front window scuffs of the Barchetta, now attention turns to the PVC rear window which has become cloudy with age. It´s not that bad, but if anyone on the Backroom has a magic fix to try before I replace the whole shebang (could be a bit pricy) I would love to hear it!
I´m pretty sure that the jeweller´s rouge won´t work on the back window before anyoneone suggests it...!
Thanks in advance,

Hi there, i have a ford galaxy 2.0 glx auto with a problem with the gear selector cable which means it is constantly in and out of the garage .
the cable keeps snapping therefore leaving me unable to start the vehicle . i keep taking it back into the garage where they fit another one and a few weeks later the same happens , it is in the garage now . the time before the garage changed my stabalising bar thinking that was the problem , that the engine was moving (pulling ) the cable . any ideas . thanks. Hi Im new to Honest John but so far so good looks a very good site.

I wonder how long No claims Bonus lasts if I no longer insure a vehicle.

My mother has a motability car and has me as a named driver so I dont really need to keep my car anymore but was worried i may loose my hard earned No Claims bonus,

Maybe I will need my own vehicle again in the near future and didnt want to start from scratch again? Read more

I have an intermittent fault affecting car stereo speakers (all 4, front & rear) only. Road bumps will cause tape radio or cd to loose speaker output TOTALLY.

Radio tape cd remains operative with full front display. Slamming passenger door (or tailgate) can bring back audio. It is not I.C.E. unit as I have tried 3 different ones. It would appear to be intermittent.

Joint or multiway connector associated with ALL 4 speakers but schematic in Haynes indicated only 1 multiway connector (behind I.C.E.) and this seems fine. Any suggestions at all please?

Also, sometimes when flashing headlights with lights off but engine running and always doing the same with engine off - Power is temporarily starved to I.C.E. Again any suggestions greatfully received, thanks!

Should be 2 power supplies, one is ignition fed, main power supply.the other is permanent smaller cable(sometimes used as permanent supply)which is wrong-permanent supply is used for keeping memmory...if used as permanent supply ie radio used without ign in acc/mode this may be the problem, need to check where the supply is coming from

Following upon an injury my wife finds the button handbrake virtually impossible to operate..

Any ideas how it could be modified to a fly off lever type?

A fly off hand brake requires the button pushing to lock it in the on position, pulling on the lever will then release it.If your wife, having stopped, could operate the lever and button using both hands, she would then be able to release it with her left. For hill starts she could use the lever without having to depress the button.I am sure one would be available for the Escort from suppliers of racing kit,or maybe one could be adapted from an XJS.

Hello!

A couple of days ago (after another hard evening trying to survive after-work traffic) I've noticed a weird squeaky noise coming somewhere from under the car.

- It is not rev related or gear related.
- If I apply the brakes the noise stops (even if the car is still rolling, i.e. applying brakes softly)

- The noise seems to come and go and sometimes its higher pitched (louder), sometimes not.

- Only appears when the car moves.

- Doesn't appear all the time (i.e. didn't notice it this morning on the way to work, noticed again at end of journey from work back home...goes on and off sometimes).

The car works fine otherwise... but because its not yet guaranteed to always happen I don't want to take it to the dealer only to let them tell me that they couldn't reproduce the noise.

Just wondering what it *could* be and if there is a way I could *look* what *might* be wrong.

Any idea / hint appreciated!

Thanks a lot!
