Reg Vardy takeover - CarCrazy09
Anybody keeping up-to-date with this? I'm loving this one. Check out pepconsultancy.com -- it's the only place I bother with these days because everything else seems to be full of adverts and no flippin' car news. Lookers has bid 492 million quid (492!!!!!!!!) and it looks like it will be accepted. MADNESS! I was sure Pendragon had it in the bag.

Anyone have any ideas whether this will have much of an impact on showrooms around the UK? Will the average punter be affected or is this just something that will affect investors? I've always liked Reg Vardy I have to say, but the report at pepconsultancy.com suggests the management team will be staying on.

Anyway, it's a good story! Any thoughts anybody?

Actually these big groups have already taken over many of the main dealer outlets. Very often they keep the name of the previous (small) company, so 'Fred Smith Toyota' is actually owned by Pendragon, or whoever. I also happen to know that one or two 'indpendent specialists' are also owned by big groups (obviously hedging their bets a bit).
Clearly, at the prices being bid, they must think there's lots of money to be made retailing cars..... I guess we may be looking forward to some price rises.
