From todays' Business section of the DT -
Hewitt and Byers are to be hauled in front of an influential committee of MP's to explain their roles in the collapse of Rover. Peter Luff MP, chairman of the trade and industry committee also said that the Phoenix Four would probably be asked to give evidence when hearings start after Easter.
Maybe this will draw a line under the whole sorry saga and the coffin of Rover can finally be laid to rest.

The thing I canot understand was why the goverment finaced it for a week even though all options had failed.

My view is that they were wanting to keep the lame duck limping along a bit longer until after the general election. But no doubt all will come out in the wash, as they say.

It was a week until the General Elections of course!

It's good to see because it was a crying shame about Rover. I read a good story today at pepconsultancy.com -- they seem remarkably up-to-date with car news there -- and I'd forgotten some of the history behind the MG Rover saga. So many people made dodgy money out of it and it's a crying shame to see it in the state it's in. Let's just hope Longbridge will be up and running soon.
Another good story at pepconsultancy.com is one about Reg Vardy -- anybody else been keeping up-to-date with this?! It's a great news piece, with Lookers stealing in at the last minute! Read the story at the website I mentioned, if you haven't heard what has been going on. Pendragon must be livid!
Anyway, I half agree with Xileno ... it would be nice to see Rover resting in peace, but it would also be great to see her back on the road with a few new models. I nice new MG from the Longbridge plant would be good!

John Prescott would benefit from being put in a "lean mean fat reducing grilling machine"!

Not to mention the rest of country! Failing that he could ten rounds with the inventor, all proceeds to charity of course.

What about tying him to the bonnet of Clarkson's Escort Cosworth and letting Jeremy take him for a spin around Brands?

Putting Rover to one side for a moment, how many more plugs for a certain training consultancy are we going to have from CarCrazy? The news on this website isn't 'remarkably up to date' - it's rehashed from other sources.

The government should not have let their "old boys club" mates, ie the Pheonix four, get Rover in the first place, as all they ever intended to do was asset strip its wounded carcase and cast the empty husk aside as they did. I dont believe even OUR governemt can have been naive enough to actually believe these guys genuinely wanted to revitalise what could have been a great auto manufacturer.
