I've just bought a 54 plate easytronic Astra club, which I'm pretty happy with (better than my old 05 Polo, that was a waste of money!)despite having part of the clutch replaced already!

On the whole it's a pretty quiet drive, until I get onto rough road surfaces - every now and again I hear a very metallic sounding thud that seems to be coming from the back of the car somewhere, I've had the suspension checked and that is fine - could it be the exhaust? Has anyone else had similar problems with the new Astra? Read more

Check that all the rubber support mountings are in place. There should be 2 at each end of the centre silencer plus 1 at the front and 2 at the rear of the back silencer.

I'm going to help my mate change the clutch in his 306 HDi 90 in a few weeks. Anybody done it and got any handy hints? I think it uses a standard push clutch rather than the TD's pull type, and maybe a hydraulic actuator? Also going to get the front wheelbearings changed at the same time, but we'll be taking the hubs to someone with a press to actually change the bearings. Does the HDi still use that inlet housing on the back of the block, so beloved of failure on the XUD, and should we change this as well?

Mines a 51 plate, one of the last made. Not sure if that will have any influence on whether it has a dreaded DMF or not...

I currently own a 98 S reg 318ti sport with a full BMW service history at 70600 miles. With a service 1 or 11 coming up fairly soon, I was hoping for some advice on whether it is worth keeping this up or whether a BMW specialist but non dealership service would maintain the value the same? Will I potentially loose money when I come to sell it if I dont keep up the dealership service history?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm just posting this on behalf of someone else who is looking into a prob with a Nissan Sunny. He wants to know what the problem could be since he can't see anything wrong. There is a slight kink in a pipe going from the radiator to the heating system, but the guy does not thing that would be enough to stop the heater working.

Any other ideas on what could be wrong or what checks should be done? Sorry for the lack of detail. Read more

Forum Car keyed
deepwith

Last night son took dark blue micra (54 reg) out and parked in quiet residential cul-de-sac. This morning we saw it had been keyed from below the petrol filler to half way along the drivers door - it shows up as white not metal, so not too deep. What is the best way to treat this and how much is it likely to cost? How does this affect the paint warranty - ie do I have to take it to Nissan for repair? I do not want to go down the insurance route if at all possible. Read more

Hi John,

I am currently refurbishing a 1982 Talbot MotorHome. The original engine has been replaced with a later model Fiat Ducato 2.5 Diesel engine (non turbo). The engine seems o.k. although recently noticed the engine takes longer to start with a lot of smoke. However the engine starts fine afterwards. I would also like to decrease the engine noise (I am no expert but I believe this is caused by valve overlap) Could you tell me please:-

1.Could there be a fault with the glow plugs or relay?
2. Are there any products available to improve efficiency of the engine and help reduce the diesel clatter?

Any help and relevant websites would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike.

I believe the engine you have fitted is of the type fitted to the Citroen CX, a very durable robust one at that, if it is, being non turbo it has a timing chain, the turbo versions had a belt, well two actually and were quieter. Adding as much insulation as you can get between the bulkhead and dashboard is what's needed as already mentioned.

When you say the fuel filter seems alright, have you actually changed it? they can restrict the fuel flow at full throttle if clogged....

Question Pre Lubrication
storme

We all know that the engine has a design flaw....

that is the crankshaft pressurizes the oil supply...
that means that there is no oil flow b4 the engine starts..and as most wear takes place in the 1st few seconds....not good is it

i have read on US sites something called a pre-luber...
it sounds like a good idea
are there any in the uk??
do they work??
anyone have any experience of them???
where can i get on???
is it easy to instal??

thx

IIRC, some synthetics are polar, but PAO is not polar. Esters (API Gp V) are polar. That begins and ends my knowledge on the matter:)
