Hi.
I have a 1997 facelift Mondeo TD.
Every time I put new batteries in the key fob they die after a day or two.(I put in quality batteries).
Anyone know why this might be?
Thanks. Read more
I have installed a secondhand Kenwood KDC 3024 radio into my car. No instruction book supplied, does anyone have one they do not need? Can anyone enlighten me as to how I can get Traffic Information on this particular set up.
Many thanks.

My Volvo S60 is due it's 96,000 mile service, which includes the cambelt change.
I have been quoted the following prices, both using Volvo technicians and original parts.
Volvo Main Dealer - £778
Local Volvo Independent - £435
I got the independent quote first, then called the main dealer. Once I'd been quoted the £778 menu price I asked if they would price match the independent.
To my surprise the service advisor said that he would ask the service manager and call me back.
When he returned my call I was even more surprised to be offered the service at the main dealer for £494, a £284 discount on the menu price!
I confirmed that this new price would not mean 'less of a service'.
The car is a 2002 model and is out of Volvo warranty, but has a full Volvo dealer service history.
I currently have an issue with the car wandering excessively, and this will be investigated as part of the service. I am mindful that the main agent may see this as an opportunity to claw some of the discount back. Similarly, I may need front brake discs.
What do you think folks, where would you take it?? Read more

I just can't understand what's going on here. SWMBO's Focus Chic is the finest car EVER built, and as for the Mondeo TDCI......
I had this car for 14 years (160.000km) and never had any major probs?. ?till now.. Serviced at a local garage a month ago but after few days stopped working. Jump started ok then not used it for a week, now will start but not fire.
Carried the following tests: petrol ok; clean fuel filter; put new battery; sprayed the carb with aereosol. Still not working. Tried another coil (taken from the scarp yard) and checked the sparks and are a bit weak with both coils, so I guess that either the coils are rubbish and need to get a new one. Before buying a new coil that I might not need can I test with the one on the Fabia 1.4 16v? If is not the coil what else?

Polo running smoothly. Tried to buy a new distributor from GSF in Apsley but part was out of stock and not available for several weeks. Got a second hand distributor for 30 pounds ( from VW audi specialist in Hokliffe) and thanks to your tips and my next door neighbour handy hands the car is on the road again.
Hello,
I had my 51 Mondeo repaired after an accident last month - damage to all four offside panels. Since the repair, FM radio reception is terrible.
Some days, I get great reception (it's an hour each way to work and I can listen to FM the whole time). Some days, I get only hissing, and searching the band finds nothing. Some days, the radio recpetion cuts out after a little while - seconds, minutes, there's no pattern. When it cuts, it fades very quickly to hissing and searching the band finds nothing. I can always get MW reception.
I don't have lots of time (or skill) to investigate - can anyone suggest what might have happened or how to narrow the fault down? I've checked the transmitter info - there's no work going on or power reduction etc. The very old radio in my other car works fine - so I'm completely confused. Thanks!

pull the radio out & put a piece of wire about 3 meters, bare one end and put it were the aerial goes if it works ok for a while then that eliminates your radio & the only thing left is your aerial? they may have nipped the coax when removing old parts. good luck
I am trying to decide betweeen the above vehicles at about the £17,000 price point. It appears that a 52 or 03 Audi A4 convertible 2.4 sport with around 50k can be had for this money or a 2001 BMW 325 ci convertible with 60k or so. I am torn between the two options. The audi seems to get good write ups but I do quite fancy the BMW I have read the car by car breakdown and find that neither have any particular skeletons in their closets. Any backroomers have experience of one or both of these vehicles? Read more
I am not sure that marginal differences in servicing costs etc are particularly relevant in this case.
Premium convertibles are more 'heart' than 'head' purchases, and surely the final choice between two excellent cars would come down to spec, comfort, brand and ultimately 'feelgood factor' than accountant-type stuff.
Having become a owner 0f a 2002 laguna 1.9dc1 estate three months ago I thought all these stories about faults with Renault were exaggerated .I can confirm they are not ,some faults with the ECU warning lights Renault could not cure. I have owned many cars and you expect some problems but but Renault come top of the league never again will I utter the the name .I have bought a Primera 2004 2.2 sve diesel direct from the lease company and luckily offloaded the Laguna into the trade my contact there says I was lucky it was a diesel because he cannot find dealers who will take petrols at any price. It may have been a bad motor or I was just unlucky but judging by other posts in this forum and others I think not .Renault Laguna R.I.P. I occasionally accept a lift home by a pal whose wife picks him up from our club at closing time - their mode of transport was a 2002 Renault Laguna Estate and they liked it.
However, for me there was very little head or foot room in the back and it felt very cramped.
One day they asked me what I thought about the Renault and what I thought should be its replacement. I won't repeat what I said about the Renault (I was quite kind actually) only suggesting something from the VW Group but, a fortnight ago, my friend's wife arrived to pick us up in an Audi...:-)
Both commented on the way home that they had been very taken with the build quality of the Audi and felt that it would serve them for many years to come.

Friends are considering going from two cars to one and a works van.
Currently have an A4 - husband's and weekend car - good for passenger and load carrying and long trips.
Wife has a smart cabrio - good for her daily commute and parking in urban areas - cabrio good fun in summer.
They need something between the two. Have considered a Mini Cooper S. Convertible
Pluses - still quite small so easy to park, still a cabrio, good for longer journeys.
Negatives - really only a two seater, small boot (they don't want to use the van for shopping), £20,000 price tag.
I have suggested something along the lines of a new Golf convertible but it's not available yet. Audi convertible is too big and they won't consider a French motor so no Pug or Renault Coupe/Cabrios!
£20,000 budget. Read more
A colleague has just ordered one of the rollout models of the Astra cabrio, loads of extras at £16500.
If they get in quick their might be some left.
A friend has a 04 Golf and she has found that water has started leaking into the boot area. Unfortunately, the leak has damaged a 10CD interchanger (18 months old) in the boot (it was very wet) and it no longer works.
My question - Will the VW manufacturers warranty cover the water leak and consequential damage to the CD changer? Read more
A bit of an update on this post.
My friend has now had the water leak repaired (It was the rear washer hose leaking and an obviously know fault). The dealer has fixed the problem and in addition replaced the headling (consequential damage) but it did not looked damaged at all but they have refused to replace the CD exchanger as it is (consequential damage). The dealer did say that if the exchanger was a VW one it would have been changed!?
They have no been quoted with The Sales of Goods act and they are now "thinking" about what to do next.

I've also got problems with the the remote locking on my '97 Mondeo (2-button key type). I suspected that the key was the root of the problem - but have now been assured that the key is OK. The LED only BRIEFLY flashes (barely visible in strong daylight) when the button is depressed - and apparently this is what's supposed to happen.
We now suspect that my problems lie with the 'receiver' in the car. In the meantime, I'm using the key 'manually' as the central locking still works OK. It's a minor inconvenience, but the car's getting to the stage where it's not worth spending a lot of money on it.
Anyone know how involved/expensive it would be to sort out/replace the receiver?
