i was wondering if it is possible to put fully synthetic diesel oil ie. 0-40w into a 1995 306 td or is this just for modern engines. i know its more expensive but am i right in thinking it lasts longer between services and works better when cold?

am i better sticking with my £12 tub if castrol GTD plus every 6000 miles

If you dont have any problems with oil you are using, see no reason to change. fully will last longer between changes but is it worth the extra on a ten year old that has no problems-I have ten year old that should have semi in(I think its pug engine in rover)but use mineral oil as is castrol, but use Comma 10/40 works fine for me..change oil and filter every 5k,costs me £16 with filter

So far I've had no problems paying the London Congestion Charge on-line as and when appropriate - except the pain of parting with £8 ... ;o(

A friend of mine at a car dealership got a letter from the LCC authorities with a big surcharge for an unpaid CC, together with photo purporting to be his car. Fact was, the car in question (i.e. with that legitimate reg number) was demonstrably nowhere near London on the day alleged. Turned out that the car which was in London was of the same make, but fitted with false plates - obvious when the photo was examined more closely. Is this scam widespread?

... so I paid £50,

You should never pay these things - once you've paid you're in danger of opening the floodgates to lots more claims, and it'll be to convince people that you're not responsible if you've paid once.

I think I'd write to my favourite newspaper's help column and let them sort it out - they can get to Chief Executives etc who aren't accessible to most people.

I do wonder if it would be useful to have your car cloned - you could just blame the other car for everything then!

Has anyone had any experience of this speed camera warning device? If you're thinking of getting one, you may still find your local Somerfield/Kwiksave with pre-Christmas stock now selling at £39.99. Talex very kindly tipped me off, and I bagged the last one in my local store.

I'll be setting it up in the car this week. Would the forum be interested in any feedback (good and/or bad?) Read more

The people opposite us had her son and daughter-in law staying with them and the daughter-in law kindly drove off their drive and straight into my car...into the drivers door.

My car door has now been fixed (Ford done it). The problem is since the whack (& she did manage it pretty well) I have been having problems with the central locking. It unlocks the drivers door but not the rest. I told my insurance people about this and I told Ford.
Ford took my car away for four days and when it came back I'm still having the same problem. Ford said that when they tried it it worked ok.
Heres my problem at proving there is a fault. Its an intermittent fault.
It did do it when I showed the service guy but when they took it away they said it didn't do it there for there is nothing wrong with the locking.

Do I have any chance of getting this fixed or am I now stuck with central locking that sometimes work and sometimes doesn't? Read more

Try giving each door catch a blast of WD40.

Good idea, Adamski. My Focus sometimes suffers from sluggish locks, and so did my previous one. On occasions I actually have time to get into the car and close the drivers door before the passengers door unlocks. The problem is worse in winter. A squirt of WD40 into the keyhole usually alleviates the situation.

Hi all

Hope everyone is well, I know it?s late but did everyone have a good Christmas,

I have a Peugeot 307, I am sure many of you will say bad choice, and I am beginning to agree yet I like the car very much, the car is now 5 years old and getting to the point of things going wrong,

The main and most annoying is the indicator switch has flopped, it needs replacing as clicker has gone, I spoke to Peugeot they said I have to buy this whole unit called a comm. 2000, which is both stalks and radio arm, seems like a silly gimmick to me, I spoke to a breakers they quoted £90 which sounds like a big saving and I?m going for that one, but they biggest worry and question is will it need programming to the car, Peugeot say yes, and it will cost £96, I said that?s a bit steep isn?t it, he said its one hour labour charge, yet it will probably take 5 mins,

Does anyone know if this is true and if so where can I get it done cheaper, or can I do it myself?

Sam

I'd rather have them than not. Especially looking out the window at the frosted up cars.

Thanks for suggestions.
I will gently try out your ideas.

Take care if you're travelling that way tonight as at the junction is a car or two on fire and yoofs running along the hard shoulder.

The smoke is obscuring both carriageways and is pretty thick. I called the police on my mobile (is this a legitimate use for 999? I've never actually called it before. :-)) and they said they'd send someone out.

Hitting a chav at 70-odd mph will leave a big dent in the front of the car. It's not worth it. Honest. Read more

Isn't it funny when dealers (not just private adverts) spell the vehicles wrong. I mean this is a classic example, in the Trade sales advert every week the Vauxhall Meriva is spelt "Mervia" & has done for two years now, surely they would've picked it up by now?

Does anyone know any other places that spell their vehicles wrong on the ad's?

In our local on-line auction site, a couple of the auctions have caught my eye recently.
One was for a streeing rack. Another for a Serries 3. It wasn't a momentary slip, either, as the mistakes have been repeated in further auctions.

Perhaps it's to attract the attention of pedants. No, dear, that's pedants with a 'd'.

Inspired by my posting on another thread, what is the most revered / valuable car that deseves to be crushed by a monster truck in front of an audience of motoring journalists?

My choice -

I'm torn between the Mitsubishi Evo and the Subaru Impreza.

Why? Because they've come to symbolise bad driving as an aspiration.

I'll go for Impreza because it's uglier and it makes a noise like Citroen 2CV covered in matresses.

Cheers, SS - sorry if I've upset any owners of the above types but as I've owned an Austin Allegro and Hillman Hunter in the past I've taken my fair share of car-dissing too! Read more
