Is there any way this can be done without going to a main dealer? I've just had my 2002 Laguna serviced and the guy at the garage couldn't reset the electronic indicator on the dash. Anyone help?? Read more
Morning All,
I've got a Focus Tddi that needs two replacement tyres.
Tyres are 185/65 H14 Pirelli P6000.
I'm happy with the tyres, they appear to give a good compromise of grip and tyre wear, however they must be the noisiest tyres I've ever had on a car!
So, I'm happy to have P6000's refitted, but thought I'd ask if anyone on here has any other suggestions?
Cheers!

Had the same problem with Dunlops on a Honda Accord many years ago and I wrote to LJK Setright for advice as he was driving the same car at the time. He advised Avons and secondly Yokohamas. The change to Avons was more than impressive. They improved the whole character of the car, amking it quieter, smoother and grippier. Only problem was wear which was poor but we only did about 8,000miles pa, it was not much of an issue.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
I had the cambelt and tensioner changed on my 1.8TDDI Focus and 24 hours later the car broke down. The belt hadn't broken but the camshaft pulley wasn't turning although its visible bolt head was. My mechanic diagnosed a sheered woodruff key on the camshaft pullet and we are negotiating a fair price for the repairs given the circumstances. It has had one valve and cam follower replaced. The car now starts easily and idles steadily and smoothly at 750rpm but has no power. Stationary, the revs can be run up and down as normal, but the car has no power when driving. On a 2-mile straight road, I couldn't get above 60mph with my foot to the floor. I'm told the turbo is working and given the easy start and smooth idling I wouldn't think it is a compression problem. Any ideas? Read more
My TDCI doesn't have a Woodruff key to lock the camshaft to the pulley! The nut is tight enough to hold it on the taper. The pulley has to be able to turn on the camshaft during assembly to correctly align them, almost seems he forgot to tighten the nut?
I don't wish to unnecessarily denigrate your mechanic, but he may be telling porkies to save himself money, it sounds like the engine's pink fluffy dice {Oh look, someone's decided to make a swearword less offensive by using the characters $@#£. Perhaps they need a reminder!! www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=33415 - DD}.
Would you buy your car after a test run in this condition?
Fairly self explanatory I think...
I'm only interested in cabin space, not luggage space.

Going by those sizes, go for jazz.
cos i know a few MM's isn't going to make a difference as my girlfriend has a jazz and its big!
she has her seat all the way back for some unknown reason (she's just under 6ft and has loads of room (i bring the seat forward), i can sit behind (6ft), and my knees don't touch her seat when its all the way back
i reckon it could fit 2 6.4ft people front and back.
therefore all you need know is reliability = Jazz.

After reading the papers and seeing interviews on the TV about the fire at the Buncefield fuel depot, it was said that tankers from Tesco, BP and Total were all lined up for filling along side each other to fill up from the same fuel line.
This suggests to me that the petrol quality from supermarkets is the same as those from major suppliers, as they seem to get the fuel from exactly the same source.
Is the idea of petrol from supermarkets being of a lower quality, really a valid point? Read more
The main difference, with Optimax, or Shell unleaded & Shell diesel,
compared with Asda fuels, is simple...
Asda have some for sale & the Shell sites don't (for
many hours in the day) in Luton, anyway!!

Funny that - theres a shell near me in Bristol which is often shut due to running out of fuel, however its very cheap and is often a little cheaper that the supermarket around the corner
On saturday a woman who was visiting her parents reversed out of their drive any drove straight into my car.(My house is oppisite to theirs & I was in the my house at the time). The drivers door has been well mangled.
Anyway, should be straight forward, her fault, insurance details swapped, etc.
Now this is the part I want to know...
I am covered 3rd party f&t so my insurance company said I have to take it to two garages and get quotes and send them in.
Today I got my first quote from fords and the guy there that helped my said I can choose what garage I want to fix my car, I don't have to send in 2 quotes, its my choice where and with who I choose to fix it.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
Cheers for any help. Read more
also, having had bad experience with insurance companies own repairers(rejected repairs and respray work 4 times)i will now only use my own local repairers.
I'm re-posting this as I don't think it was clear that BOTH wiper AND washer have stopped working at the same time.
While coming home on the motorway yesterday, my 2001, 320D touring's rear wiper & wash stopped working. The wiper arm is stuck in the vertical position and I can't see much behind me with this weather. I've checked fuses and contacts on rear lid, all ok. She's in for a service next week and I'd really like to get it fixed before having to pay bmw for the privelege. I've looked for relays but can't find them. Any help is very gratefully recieved. Mike. Read more
Hi there, I have the same problem just occured today on a 320d 2000 model. Did fixing the bearing etc sort the washer out as well as the wiper? I've had a look at the fuses (15 and 45) but both seem ok.
Any advice would be appreciated.
THanks
Does anyone know what the CAP/glasses values are for a clean 110k 1997 R 406 estate 1.8 LX with AC are? I bought one at auction for £750 and I phoned the previous owner to get some more background info, turned out he got £350 part exchange for it. He wasn't best pleased! I thought I did quite well Read more
A garage has a minimum selling price in mind when it prices the car. Bought at £8,600 advertised at £10,000 but really would accept £9,500 say.
When you buy / when the garage sells the car it is
Selling Price less Trade-in that is important - nothing to do with the car cost £XXXX and the trade in was £YYYY.
In the case of the 406 part exchange:-
Buying in a trade-in at £1200 and selling at £900 makes great sense for a garage if they sold the new car at £13,000 but really wanting say £12,200 - they made £500 more than their minimum for a deal on that particular car.
I have a mitsubishi charisma R reg. when I bought this car I never checked to see whether I had the wheel locking key for the alloy wheels. then i had a puncture and the wheel had to be taken off. Sadly the AA man could not take off the wheel without the key. When I took the car to the nearest kwik-fit they had to use a hammer to remove the nuts and as a result one of the nuts bolts was damaged so one of my back wheels now has 3 instead of four nuts. has anyone ever had a problme like this and is there any way of solving it without having to replace all the wheel coz frankly the cost of putting new wheels might now exceed the value of the car. Any Ideas..Thanks Read more
one of my back wheels now has 3 instead of four nuts.
Can't help with your question, but if I were you I wouldn't drive the car until the wheel is attached to the hub with 4 bolts again. A friend of mine had the wheel shear off because he only had 3 bolts holding his wheel on. Fortunately the only thing he hit when it happened was a ditch.
I have recently purchased an 02 model Passat. All is running well, except for whenever I go over a bump in the road the front-end of the car seems to pull over to the left. i've driven it a few times and as best as I can figure the front wheels go over the bump okay, but when the rear wheels go over, the car moves left. The car appears to drive in a straight line okay on flat roads, and at reasonable speeds.
I suspect it maybe something to do with left rear shock absorber. Would this have this effect? or is it more likely to be another part of the suspension, or even something else altogether?
Any help would be appreciated Read more
hmmm, mine has done 73k. Lets hope the garage can spot something, otherwise I'm going to have consider a part-ex next year.

Same routine for a 206, they never seem to do this at the garage!
