I have a 2000 Ford Puma 1700 16v with the variable cam timing with 56000 on the clock. There is a rattle between 2 and 3000 rpm which exists with the clutch in or out. Has anyone any suggestions to what it could be or methods of eliminating what it isn't? Cheers Read more
What exactly is regarded as modifying your car for insurance purposes?
For example, let's say you fit polyurethane bushes to your car to replace the worn out rubber bushes. Would you have to inform the insurance company? Or if you fit a slightly stiffer anti-roll bar to the front to replace the factory fitted one?
I know if you fitted bigger wheels compared with factory standard, you have to declare, or if you start modding the engine. Read more
Many years ago I fitted a high-compression 3.5litre V-8 engine into an ordinary LandRover. The car went like a bomb, and had totally inadequate suspension, steering and brakes for the extra performance.
The insurance company was not interested - they said all LandRovers had the same (low) insurance rating.
Hi. I bought a 97 Mondeo a while back and it has an original nokia hands free kit in it. Looks like its all been fitted by a professional.
The cradle for the phone is for a nokia 6310 mobile phone.
What I would like to know is can I just swap the cradle over to an up to date one, or would it need all replacing?
Many thanks,

Has anyone any experience of Jabra Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit SP500 as seen at:

a friend is looking for presents for his friends and is running out of ideas! If this is any sort of decent unit, then he might be tempted. Or any other suggestions for under £50 for bluetooth handsfree - they don't like the ear ones!
Is it worth buying a car, which is listed as having been CAT D damaged, although since repaired.
Any pitfalls in doing this, as the price is very attractive on the car I have seen? Is there a possibility of getting it off the register, having been repaired?

Hi there, I have been looking at CatC and CatD damaged vehicles lately with a view to grabbing myself a bargain. I found some really useful information and a pretty comprehensive overview of all of the likely pitfalls and perks through xxxx. They also have a novices guide on the VIC scheme which has just been abolished this October and what it means to us buyers :

I have to collect a couple from Victoria Palace Theatre (Billy Eliott), any idea of anywhere nearby where I can park up and wait in the car, or is it a nightmare? Read more
public transport is fine at that time...I don't have a car and use it all the time..no worries.
Hi, Just acquired this car and very clean it is too. However I have a misfire for the first 10 minutes when cold. When hot is is fine. Coil packs measure 1.3 ohms primary each but there is a very high resistance between the secondary and anything., Is there an arch gap in these Sagem coils that causes this. Any ideas on what the misfire may be would be appreciated. Presently changing plugs and checking all cabling. Regards Peter

Obtain a good worksop manual. Probably not the best answer, but I always find they give really useful information! You'll need torque settings etc anyway to do this kind of job properly in my opinion!
They can even be downloaded off the internet.
Just had the Bora MOT'd.
Got there on time, only to be met with an apology that my test would be a little later than arranged as the garage had just started using the computerised MOT system and some training was being undertaken.
Mine was the second car to be done and, in fact, the delay wasn't all that long.
The point I'm raising, however, is that during the course of the actual test I asked if the link was done via the Internet?
That turned out to be the case but the real surprise came with the fact that the DVLA insists on a dialup connection and flatly refuses broadband. It seems, for what reason I cannot comprehend, that the computerised version only works with dialup..:-)
I suggested that the garage would also have to bear the additional cost of another phone line, but it seems this particular garage is using its current phone line to see if it affects incoming calls (and possible jobs).
The tester told me that the information is, in fact, sent very quickly and there is not too much disruption, but you'd think in this day and age that dialup would never even have been considered for such a vast project?
By the way the Bora passed...:-)

Hiya,
I've got a question concerning a claim settlement. Had a damage on my car some month ago. It looks as if the causer (his insurance) is going to pay eventually. Meanwhile I'd rather like to buy another car spending the settlement money on the new one and sell the old one as it is without repair. Do I have the free choice to take a cheque or a repair or is it the discretion of the insurance company.
Thanx!

Brilliant! Cheers!
I think you could have a belt tensioner pulley on its way out. Get them checked as soon as you can. Don't forget that the cambelt change interval is now 80k or 5 years so your cambelt is due for a change if it hasn't been done.
