Clio - European Car of the Year 2005 - artful dodger {P}
The new Renault Clio has won the European Car of the Year Award for 2005.

The new VW Passat was second.

The Alfa Romeo 159 was third.

Renault were quick off the mark with an advert today and directing potential customers to their website

I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.
Clio - European Car of the Year 2005 - oldpostie
The worst car I have ever owned, the Renault 9, bought new in 1988, was European car of the year for 1983, I was told. I'm glad I didn't buy one of the others.
Clio - European Car of the Year 2005 - Xileno {P}
The COTY award is largely meaningless. Some pretty dire cars have won this accolade in the past.
However the New Clio is a very nice little car, we might be getting one in the New Year once the 5 door models are launched.

Good - they're cracking little cars in my opinion. Really well built, comfy, etc. Even the 1.2 16v goes well for such a tiny engine in a heavy car.

At one point my other halfs family owned nothing but Renaults, and never had any problems.

Isn't that for 2006? We had this discussion at this time last year for the 2005 COTY award. Or do they have several 'beauty contests.

Gutted that the Fiat Strada/Ritmo was never car of the year
Should have won an award just for the way it rusted in front of your eyes

Not as good as the "Not The Nine O'Clock News" ripoff of the ad, which recast it as "designed by computer, bult by robots ... driven by Italians". Cut to footage of a crashed Ritmo ...
Clio - European Car of the Year 2005 - Stuartli
That was a (one of the many) classic Not the Nine O'Clock News sketches.

time will tell on this one like all the rest,hope the electrics are sorted now,personally i always thought the kiss of death was the rear window sticker that says "car of the year",as everyone then wills it to flop,or is that just me?

Also didn't they do a send up of the ad but for Leyland - Built by Roberts (after Red Robbo I guess)
