November 2005
Hi,
I was caught speeding in France over the week-end (140 km/h instead of 90 km/h). I was not stopped by the police, just got caught by a flash camera.
Does anyone know what could that lead to? I know that a new legilslation will be enforced by 2007 but until then, what should I expect?
Thanks,
Cedric

Help Please
I own a pug 406 1.8lx on a 97 plate.
Since the last 2 days a constant tapping noise has developed which appears to be coming from under the glove compartment. I suspect it is the internal aircirculation unit. I belive it is this unit has i am hearing the same tapping noise has i did about 3 years ago when i had this unit repalced at a cost of £140 I have pressed the internal circulation switch which makes the noise even louder!
I do not intend to use this switch and want to disconect, is this possible? Read more

Or in fact worn brushes....
Having previously owned a wonderful GTi-6, I gather the Xsara has the same fantastic 167bhp 2.0 engine. I've found an '03 with 7k on the clock from a main dealer for under £6k or an '04 £6.5k.
Anyone actually owned or driven one of these?
I like the fact that's it reasonably anonymous (in fact ugly) but will it be money well spent? Read more
Bargain cars. People wont buy them becuase the 306 looks cooler and more sporty. The Xsara is mechanically the same as the GTi-6 bar the 6 speed box.
Get a prefacelift one, becuase the post facelift ones are ugly. Pay no more than £3k for an X reg.
In today's Sunday Telegraph Christopher Booker wrote an article titled "Parking penalties may prove illegal and void"
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=3HG...l
This could cost Councils all of the fines raised since 1991 if the ruling by Lord Justice Laws in 2002 applies over parking "fines".
What do you think?

I bet there is some squirming going on now with some enormous buck passing.Kirklees council has so far spent 5grand on lawyers to try and recover a 10p parking charge ,apparently there were no signs on the car park to say it was pay and display and the machine was obtructed by a commercial vehicle fully documented photographic evidence. The way councils will spend tax payers money beggars believe.Could you imagine if they have to return all those fines "sorry charges" the logistics are mind boggling
Pela 6000 the one with the fishbowl shape oil container. If you do what is your opinion of it.
Thanks Read more
>I can see that if you only have a driveway for servicing a Pela would be more convenient though....
No. I don't even have a driveway. I find the best way to change the oil is to find a suitable kerb and pop one side of the car onto the kerb. And make sure the car is pointing down towards the sump plug. Even better than your pit!
Hi again, sorry if this has been covered before but I have yet another problem with my automobile! This time the heater dosen't seem to be working, i.e. no hot (or even warm) air which is a bit of a pig on these cold mornings these days.I have always tried the heater when the engine temp reaches 90 degrees so I should have something. Instead all I have is a constant flow of cold air which is not pleasant to use to demist the windscreen with! I haven't got any leaks that I can see and have got the heater settings in the right places so I'm clueless. Can anyone please help as it's driving me nuts, thanx..... Read more

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
just recently my 1995 escort diesel has become awkward at starting in the mornings. its not the battery that turns over fine. the car just seems to hang on the battery turning part for ages, doesnt want to cath .this morning after 3 long tries it finally started. when it does eventually start it sounds awful for a few seconds then becomes the trustworthy machine it always has been.
Have tried turning the key on and off a couple of times to warm glow plugs more but made no difference. I am totally new to cars with regards to repairs or problems
any ideas as to why? and advice greatly received Read more
there's another method to test a glow plug you have to remove them from the head, put a battery live feed to the top of the plug and a neg to the body of the plug and see if it "glows"
ONLY DO THIS FOR ABOUT 5SECS THEY CAN BURN OUT give it a go?
I have recently had a gearbox rebuilt and a new clutch fitted but when i depress the clutch pedal i am still getting noise which sounds like a thrust bearing but this is also new. when you depress the clutch fully the noise goes away. can anyone help please Read more
Did you get a release bearing cos it is the slave cylinder on them???

I agree, Dogbreath, and sympathise. They also make the traffic shunt on busy home counties dual carriageways. The whole speed limit thing is a minefield for proper drivers. It's no help when local authorities impose silly low speed limits on such roads either, just as with modern cars 70 is stupidly low for most motorways. That said, though, with Mr Magoo waddling along in the middle lane and Jack the Lad doing a World's Wildest Police Videos imitation among all the daily commuters (with their own huge spread of attitude and ability), it's a miracle we're not all dead already. Especially when, be honest, we remember how we sometimes drove as nippers.
