I collected my VW Golf GTi with DSG gearbox this week. The vehicle was purchased through DSGAuto whose advert I saw originally here on the HJ Website.
Originally, when I was choosing a supplier I found it useful to read other peoples experiences of suppliers so I thought I would post to say that found DSG an excellent to deal with a would recommend them to anyone without reservation.
At the time of ordering in February, none of the VW retailers in my area were offering any discount on the Golf Gti, and they told me I wouldn?t be able to get discount on a UK supplied car anywhere. Suffice to say that I got approximately £1800 discount on the Golf Gti, an amount that essentially paid for the DSG gearbox option.

Have just received a letter from my Cit dealer asking me to call to arrange an appointment to install a susspension cup on the front springs "to prevent any risk of the spring making contact with the vehicle tyre in the exceptional event of the spring breaking". I own an 03 reg Berlingo HDi.
Is this the recall mentioned in the CBCB dated 13/7/04? If so why was my recall a year later? If not is it a new recall?

Dad got the same recall letter for his Picasso.
A question that I seem to be struggling to find an answer to at present is the gearing of the 1.2 16v 80bhp 6-speed version. I know the ratios for the 1.6 and the cruising speed works out at 21.5mph per 1,000revs.
I am considering using one of these 1.2 6-speed cars for a few long distance journeys about 500 miles in each direction. I am a bit worried about high revs at the legal limit. If anyone has any experience regarding this it would be much appreciated.

The factory "undersealing" still seems a bit flaky...:-)

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Hi all.
In my idle moments at work, I've recently started thinking about what it would be like to be a chauffeur. Anyone out there actually do this or tried it out?
From the very little research I've done on it, the job is a lot more then just driving people around and the job can be along the lines of a PA and security guard to regular clients.
I do not realistically think it would be a realistic career change for me but would love to know what experiences other people may have had. For example, is it well paid? Could you do it just at weekends to try it out?
D'oh! Boss back so back to work....

At the age of 21 I was approached on behalf of a gent who had lost his licence through medical reasons. He needed a tide over for a few months, either until he got his license back or find a more permanent arrangement.
I would have been paid by the hour (driving or waiting). I would have driven his car, so he would have met all those costs.
I turned it down. I already had a summer job, and was returning to studies in the Autumn, so I couldn't commit to it comfortably.
On a recent trip to the U.S. watched with amazement the number of places that had a valet parking system in place, hotels, posh restaurants, airport car parks etc and wondered why this service as far as i can see has never really caught on over here. Americans seem quite happy to hand over car and keys to a complete stranger for them to park their vehicles, but what are the legal implacations on say damage or theft to the vehicle etc?
In a country with a 'sue 'em' mentality a valet parking service is surely asking for trouble? Read more
The Tresanten Hotel in St Mawes in Cornwall has had valet parking for as long as I can remember.
It has long been a hotel where celebs go to stay. St Mawes bosts some of the highest property prices outside London, and is one of the top places for sailing.
The car park of this hotel is a short drive away so cars are parked there, after luggage is unloaded/loaded.
For info it is currently owned by Olga Forte - Rocco's sister.
The tachometer on my 'N' reg Xantia diesel is only working interm itantly. This has been going on now for about a year. Does any one know where the take of point is? Or is there any imformation on this problem

This is a well known problem with all the vauxhall ecotec engines ranging from the 1.6 4 cyl up to and including the 2.5 v6's. It is all linked to the iac valve with is connected to the throttle body. Visit www.vectra-sport.com and go to the how 2 section for a detailed explanation on how to cure this. It occures because the iac valve and all the breather hoses basciclly become clogged up with oil and gunk with means the car cuts out intermitttently and causes the idle to fluctulate. It is quite easy to do and only costs £4 (the cost of a bottle of STP carb cleaner) this procedure should be carried out bi annually but vauxhall "forget" to mention it to their customers........try it before you spend out on any expensive parts

The local dealership is having some difficulty sorting out rattles on the fascia of my Toyota Corolla which I bought new earlier this year. Does anyone know of a make/model which is unlikely to suffer from squeaks and rattles ?

I have just attended a Lexus "Open Road" event and one of the cars I drove was an SC 430 (list price £ 52,697). Over uneven surfaces there was a loud rattle from the passenger door. Perhaps even the makers of premium brands are not too concerned about rattles if they can't be bothered to sort a rattling car before it is driven by dozens of potential punters .

For clarification the discount was from an Audi main dealer, not the company you mention.
