I saw a 1996 Volvo T5 last week which looked fairly tidy and had 89,000 miles on it. The car salesman said that there was no service history with the car but the milage seemed genuine. He then said that the HPI check would have said if the mileage wasn't genuine. That was the point I started to back away gently....
The check stay on the driver's door that's supposed to hold it open was broken, the white printing on the column switches were a bit scratched and the alloys had been kerbed for at least 80,000 miles. Otherwise it seemed good.
Is there any way of verifying the mileage? There was a sticker on the speedo saying the mileage couldn't be stated as accurate. Read more
I think I would agree with all.
I'm just trying to look at it from a different perspective.
I want to do a "basics" service on my Skoda Favorit (1995 GLXie), hopefully so it runs a bit better (is not too bad) and better fuel economy etc.
I'm planning to do:
(1) Oil and filter (hasn't been done for a year/10000miles)
(2) Spark plugs, Ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor arm (never done in three years I have had it but I can see sparks in dark garage on leads)
(3) Fuel filter and air filter (did air filter 18months ago, never done fuel)
Is there anything else should be done? Sorry for being a little ignorant perhaps ...
Central locking has also stopped working - would I be correct that this is probably a "control unit" - and does anyone know where that might be on this car?
Thanks if anyone can help... Read more
I am in the process of buying a second hand Civic from a local Honda dealer.
I will be paying a fair price and the car is in excellent condition.
However the Service Book is missing. It has only covered 11,000 miles in it's 18 months so by rights is only missing one stamp. The dealership tell me they have record of the car being serviced on the Honda database, will order me a new service book and have it stamped. The remaining 18 months of the 3 year warranty will be unaffected.
Now this all sounds rosy to me, however I am a cynic.
Is 'losing the service book' a way of hiding something?
Any experienced voices welcome. Read more
Questions to consider are how quickly the car racked up that mileage, and just how long has it been sitting unused on the dealer's forecourt?
I insisted my Honda dealer did an oil and filter change, and replace the battery on the Accord I bought from them with 12k on the clock, after discovering that it had actually been sitting around for more than six months. The first service had been carried out beforehand, but oil degrades regardless of use.
I was 'clocked' last Monday evening at around 8:30pm doing 58 on an extremely innocuous and not at all dangerous (ie. no side entry roads whatsoever on this stretch between the two roundabouts) bit of 50MPH max dual-carriageway by a mobile unit in West Yorkshire!
Received the paperwork in the post yesterday and they've misspelt my middle name ? its actually Grahame (with an E on the end) exactly as it appears on my driving licence, however, they've used Graham!
A bit (lot) tenuous I know, but, that could be an entirely different bloke, right ? heh?! Worth pursuing on a 'technicality' basis, or not?
Obviously, I'll try anything once!
Best...

"With regard to not helping RB, he's already committed the heinous act of speeding so how does this help?"
No more questions and my last post to this thread - I think you will find if you read an earlier post that a guardian angel(?) is trying to send an email to RB...no doubt as a response to his pleas for help, given it isn't a public post and the likely content of the email...

The fan has stopped working there is heat coming out but when turning switch from low to high just stays the same its like the fan is not working . no leaks or damp patches and coolant level is good car temperature also running good.
Thi is good news though of the full recent MG Rover range this would seem to only implicate the TF, i.e. this will be very much a niche sports car operation. I wonder if such a venture can support an extensive facility such as Longbridge, afterall if they were to manaufacture ZT's etc they would have to collaborate with SAIC who now own the intelectual rights to the Rover 75. HJ, you get up almost as early as me. Or, had you not yet gone to bed after a wild night out!

Thanks IET - as you can see I posted quite late and had only been given the most basic of details by my mate as he and his wife were just leaving here.
I'll pass on the info to him and if I find out any more will post the details here just in case. Thanks again.
Hi I'm new to this back room thing. Both my plips on keys to my 93 peugeot 405 estate have failed. The car is sitting in the garage with the immobiliser on and I can't use it! I would like to know if there is a way of overriding the immobiliser so that I can just use the central locking be key in future. Its so frustrating that it has just passed its MOT and i can't use it. Peugeot say a new key at £100 approx will take 6-8 weeks to arrive! Any ideas out there?

Just to put a knot in this thread. Having looked at suggestions made here I contacted an auto electrician who did what peugeot said could not be done in under five minutes and I am now back on the road - minus the immobiliser. Thanks for the help of this forum

This happened to my Gran's Micra which is a similar age. I think the problem was corroded contacts on the washer bottle, so it was a simple fix but awkward to get to as the bottle is in the wheelarch.
