Same here. Possibly a gremlin still in the system from our other recent problems.

I'll pass it onto Khoo systems to investigate.

Cheers, DD.

We have a 2001 facelift model Scenic.
There have been several instances where the car has 'unlocked' itself overnight.
In addition now it seems to be prone to the alarm going off during the night with no reason.
Has anyone had similar issues and managed to diagnose the causes.

Don't forget that with radio frequency (RF) remote locking you can lock and unlock the vehicle from in the house whilst the car is on the drive (RF conditions permitting).

Is it possible you could be inadvertantly pressing the unlock button when removing your keys from your pocket at night (or other similar action)?

Door, bonnet and boot switches would be the next port of call. Also the connections thereto.

I buy my cars from auction, run them for 2 or 3 months and then try to sell them in the hope that I can enjoy depreciation free motoring. I have managed this 4 times so far this year and my insurer has just told me they will stop the policy if I change my car again!

They claim I should have trade insurance however I have a friend in the trade who has been having problems with his trade cover because he hasnt been turning over enough cars - I understand trade policies expect policy holders to sell a minimum of 25 cars a year.

I certainly wont be changing my car more than say 6 times a year but it does seem as though I will be unable to continue with my current insurer. As far as I am aware there is no small print warning of a limit of number of changes but I have been told the fifth change in a year could be declined.

It seems stange as of course the insurer charges an amendment fee and has made over £90 so far this year in changes to the policy.

Is anyone else in the same position of changing their car say 5 to 6 times a year? I do not wish to have trade cover, besides I know I wouldnt qualify for it anyway. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could advise of a more flexible private car policy that allows up to say 6 changes a year. I do appear to be caught between a rock and a hard place in that I have too many changes for private cover but no where near enough for a trade policy. Read more

I agree with all of what you say above.

However the pain goes into demonstrating that the amounts are in fact small ....

I think the BMW key fobs re-charge while they are in the ignition - I seem to recall reading that in my 3 series handbook but as I no longer have it I cant check. If thats the case it would be worth using the spare for a trip to see if it works after a charge up. It would mean however a pretty unlikely co-incidence that its gone flat and the original gone faulty at the same time. Worth a try though before you spend out at BMW rates.

Found an old post in the archives, and i have exact same problem.. the previous poster, had been given suggestions and never said if suggestion cured the problem.

Ford Ka - can anyone help ???

I have a strange "clonking" sound coming from what sounds like inside the dashboard ahead of the driver which only occurs whilst driving. It's not continous, only seems to occur whilst steering or driving over bumpy road. I paid for an RAC Inspection which confirmed there was a problem and pointed the finger at the the front anti-roll bar bushes.

After fitting new anti-roll bar blushes.. same problem!

Someone suggested this to the original poster..
TSB 52/1999 entitled 'Rattle/knocking noise from front suspesion over rough surfaces' and involves to much freeplay between the spring and upper seat, This is rectified by the fitting of a rubber insulator between the spring and mount.

he never posted back what fixed it! any ideas ??? does this fix the problem, as I dont want to pay out more money for it not to be fixed!!!

it's a 97 R reg with 95,000 miles on the clock. So it probably is just wear on the suspension... as parkers does warn that suspension can wear at high mileages.

My nieces old fiesta has exact same problem, and her mum still drives it 2 plus years on !so mechnically the car is sound, drives well, passes MOT. it's just the knocking gets a bit annoying.

I am taking it into a local garage on staurday who'll have a look at what I've suggested, and they say it may be something to do with suspension bolts ???? i'm a bit dumb with cars. So hoping someone can give me the coost effective answer.

This is what happens when things get lost and they turn up in the most unexpected places.

If I remember correctly this machine has been the subject of a program on SKY .It has numerous electric motors and the power it consumes could supply a small town.

I'm having troubles starting this car. It tends to sit for a while between use, but I don't think waxy diesel is the issue. Even with a good battery, you can usually crank it on and off for a good few mins before it will go. Once running, its fine and does charge the battery. Often you will need to jump it as the battery will be flat before it starts.

Someone mentioned it maybe glow plugs. I am of an electrical rather than mechanical background. Do I just need to meter these out and if so, should they be any particular resistance?

Do I just buy some new ones (I've no idea how old they are)

Am I barking up the wrong tree all together?

Your help/advice is much appreciated. Read more

If after following NC's advise above you find no faulty glow plugs, you need to check if the plugs are getting any power.
Connect your volt meter or test lamp between the bus-bar & earth, switch on ignition & quickly check for a voltage, 11 volts or thereabouts or lit bulb, before the control box timer cuts the power off. If no voltage or light check the main glow plug fuse.
If ok check the glow plug control box. Not sure exactly where that is on this car but usually in the vicinity of the battery/ behind the headlamp area. Hope this helps.

When the climate control is turned off, and the windows are open while travelling, I can still feel air coming thru the foot vents. It seems to still be coming thru at what ever temerature is was before the climate was switched off (i.e. hot) but I don't think its forced as I've never noticed it when not moving or windows closed.

I haven't investigated anything yet, other than that the aircon compresssor does stop when switched off (well the engine load disappears anyhow.)

If climate is on, it all seems to wrok fine. Aircon works too if you poke the temperature that way.

Any thoughts / comments much appreciated. Read more

Really? You learn something new everyday. Even though everything screams that the current one is the Mark 6, I got told (I won't say who by but his boss may have been called Henry) that it was only a Mark 5.

I had an N reg Mark 4 and we;ve just got Mum a Y reg Mark "5". Apart from the headlights, the white dials, the plastic trim on the bumper and the cigarette lighter on the dash as opposed to in the ashtray, it is identical.

Please don't say the facelift Focus was the Mark 2.

I maybe remembering incorrectly here?
I know that the Ford-PSA 2.7 V6 in the S-Type and C6 etc is a twin turbo set-up.

I seem to remember that the new discovery with this engine only has one turbo though.
Is this true?

If so where is this turbo situated and is it just linked to one bank. If so I'd assume (probably incorrectly) it would mean the engine isn't quite balanced in terms of exhaust gas flow resistance.

Thanks for any info

Also I saw a review somewhere of this engine in the Peugeot 607. Is the UK 607 available with this engine?

(hope this is ok in technical - I wasn't sure)

Thanks for the info.
I also by coincidence happened to see at the Ford Fair last weekend, a Sierra V6 with Turbo Technics kit fitted to one of the banks.

My wife's car was sideswiped last January by a van driver pulling across the road without looking clearly, resulting in a bent offside door, b post and scraped rear wing She was naturally shaken and not having ever been involved in an accident before got only a few details with no witness details recorded. I contacted my insurance company - Norwich Union - who arranged for the body repairs to be done, loan car provided, although I had to pay the excess while the issue of liability was discussed. I had taken out one of those legal assistance policies with the RAC and so handed it all to them. They took over and kept me informed from time to time of the progress or lack of it. Initially the company that had hired the van said it was not their fault, then they tried to walk away and eventually the RAC said they were going to institute formal recovery proceedings. This flushed them out and I received their cheque, plus interest, and paid it in today. So well done RAC, a bit slow perhaps but then the interest compensated for that, and most importantly the no claims bonus is maintained. I had always seen these policies as just another way of padding the margin, but they did a very good job for us, took all the hassle away and got the best possible result. I will certainly make sure I have one in future as failure to recover the costs and loss of no claims bonus would pay for this many times over. I will enjoy my modest glass of purely medicinal red wine even more this evening.

When I was hit by a Range Rover the solicitor given to me by my insurer (Churchill) was great. They phoned me up an hour after I contacted Churchill and talked me through everything. It all went quiet for a bit, then I received a letter from my solicitor saying that the other insurance had denied liability and so they were going to issue a County Court summons against them. They did and the next day I received a cheque for the repairs to my car.
Best of all the only cost to me was an extra 17 quid the assurance cost me when I renewed my policy.
