I read elsehere that the new Accord diesel takes an age to warm up in the recent frosty weather - in fact the tester timed it at 15mins.
Do BackRoom owners out there find this to be correct? Read more
Can someone tell me what i should realistically pay for a nice 03 2003 honda CR-V SE Sport 23300miles at a non franchise (other vehicle franchise) dealer.
It is offered at 15000, i belive this is a grand overpriced for what it is (having looked at parkers etc etc). The dealer disagrees and was telling me how he would get that much from a trader. I think he is talking nonesense.

Honda currently list at least 5 nationally at their dealers. All 15 - 15 and a half. All less mileage than the one you refer to. All approved Hondas with the accompanying warranty and back up. Hope this helps.
Just doing the coolant change on my girlfriend's Fiesta. It's the 1.3 OHV engine.
Anyone know how you get the thermostat out? I've removed the thermostat housing, and now can't get it out! The manual says to 'compress and withdraw thermostat retaining clip' but doesn't show a picture. I can't see any sort of clip anywhere!

Having done the job last year I can confirm there is no clip. I used brute ignorance: a 6 inch srewdriver through the middle of the thermostat (near the ball) moved it easily.

My wonderful Xantia is to be replaced.
It is 9 and a half years since I bought it and I recall I dithered for weeks then.
This time my dithering will get me hospitalized shortly either as a new medical condition or because my wife has brained me.
So far I have considered C5, C-Max,Picasso, Megane Estate, Scenic, Octavia,Focus Estate, Almera Tino, and Golf.
Now I'm on to Corolla Estate 2.0 TD or a C4 110bhp TD.
Please you guys---any views will be very welcome.

Tony Bee,
maybe you should be more like me. When I buy things like a house or a car, I tend to be an impulsive buyer. If I like the way it looks ( in a house ), or the way it accelerates 'and' looks ( in a car ), I'll have it. I've never had a bad buy yet, apart from the 1.7L Diesel Corsa I bought. This car didn't have the power to overtake a Forklift let alone an artic tanking along at 56MPH.
The odd thing is though, when it comes to buying a loaf of bread I find myself pondering over the cost of 50p or 86p.
The car I have now was a spur of the moment buy, as per the norm, and is running like a dream. Dohh, shouldn't have said that. Touch wood.

and what if we wish to discuss the hovercraft, and it's inventor, in the context of off road motoring?
OK so your sat at your CPS desk and a file presenting the following facts is in your In Tray awaiting a decision :
A is driving his vehicle on a Motorway at NSL. Feeling a tad thirsty he takes his hand off the steering wheel, reaches for and starts drinking from a bottle of juice.
In this action he loses control, attempts to correct, overdoes it and vehicle goes out of control towards the nearside, crashes through a fence into a field.
A horse in the field is spooked (frightened), runs out of the field through the accident gap in the fence and starts running along the carriageway of the M way. The horse is then hit by a car, the driver of which sustains injury and dies later in hospital.
Opine on what charge against A.
Any Geordie, Macam or Tyke having knowledge of such an accident please refrain from posting.

Ooops, I fear I might have deleted something.
Sorry about that, I do hope that you can forgive me for the loss of motoring oriented, serious, non-trivial, non-tedious, non-ridiculous debate.
Of course, in the unlikely event that anybody was writing tedious, boring, irrelevant, pedantic, mindless drivel; that might have got deleted as well.
Hi,
Just got back from a shopping trip and noticed my car smelling strongly of diesel. Opened the bonnet to find fuel all over the engine bay. On turning the key, it is spraying out of one of the glow-plug housings. The last (or first depending on how you look at it!) glow plug has only one line into it, whereas all the others have (I assume) an in and out feed. The blank port of the last one is capped with a rubber seal, which appears to have perished. Anyone come across this before? Is it just a case of replacing the seal, or as with most car related jobs - the whole housing? My friendly local garage is closed until Monday so just thought I might get some advice here in the meantime.
Thanks in advance for any replies. Lesley Read more
Hi,
Repair done - 10 minute job and cost me £3! Cheapest garage job ever! Probably cost me more in lost diesel than to get it fixed.
Now, must get reversing lights sorted next!
Thanks, Lesley
The wife's Madza Xedos9 Auto started whining a little when cold a week ago. Today it's doing it all the time. I think the whine's auto box related as it only happens under power and then seems to be an exaggerated version of the normal noise of an auto.
I've just checked the ATF. It's brown and pretty grossly overfilled.
Any views on whether changing the ATF is likely to help, or have things gone too far by this point? I don't want to waste the time, effort and cash changing ATF if it's going to need professional attention anyway.

>>>>> Funny how burnt ATF looks like a fine port!
Perhaps it's time to say that, just as one should never try hanging patterned wallpaper after a bibulous lunch, neither should one confuse what just came out of the transmission oil pan with the finer products of the grape.
..actually I thought at first the funny taste was due to the Stilton being a bit off...........
I have a 1993 1.3i Fiesta Ghia Auto. When i try to start the car it makes a noise like the solenoid is stuck on the starter motor. I replaced the starter and it's still the same, when i jump start the car it starts straightaway so i replaced the battery to to no avail !! Any ideas anyone ???? Read more
I have just encountered this very same problem in my 1995 Ford Fiesta Sapphire. I used it all day yesterday and then went to get in it last night and it was dead. I couldnt even get in the car as the battery was so dead that the central locking wouldn't work. I had to get the master key to get into the car and then discovered that it wouldn't start either.
I tried to jump start it from my dad's car and even that didnt work and we also tried to push start it. In the end I had to call out the AA to come and give it a boost. When the mechanic game out he discovered that it is a faulty alternator. The result on the AVO was 2.2 volts and even when the engine was running it didnt manage to exceed 12.7 volts.
There was no signs that the alternator was faulty as all the lights, windows etc were working fine. The only thing different that did happen yesterday was that the battery light didnt come on when i started the engine but that only happened once so i wasnt too concerned... apparently its a key indicator in fiesta's that the alternator is faulty. I'll know for next time.
Hope you've managed to get your fiesta sorted Digster
The passenger footwell on my brother-in-laws Golf is full of water.
We have 'hosed' it and it seems to be dripping in just past the door towrads the fron of the car.
Last weekend we took off the plastic trim that runs down the side of the wind screen and bodged some silicon type seal stuff where we thought it might be coming in but it is still leaking . The door seal appears to be sound.
Any ideas from experience please. It is 1.6 petrol I think and K Reg. Read more

I don't think it should have that much effect. My car is garaged, so it's never covered in ice, but it has always warmed up relatively quickly even on frosty mornings.
Why should very cold weather make a huge difference? The thermostat will prevent coolant circulating through the radiator, and the radiator fan should not be operating.
