I have been assured that my HT leads need changing because of a missfire when it gets hot. A new set of plugs seem to do the trick but when it gets to 1000 to 2000 miles it starts to miss again.
Can anyone let me know how to get to the dis between the bulkhead and the left bank ?.

I have a 1997 VW Passat 110 TDI saloon with 126K on it. In the last 5K or so miles I've noticed a crackling on the radio at motorway speeds, but not at lower (town) speeds. It didn't do this before. The crackling increases in volume when the volume it turned up, and decreases on turning the volume down. Any clues? Read more
I had this on my 406 soon after I bought it. The radio had a crackle which changed with speed. I found out what it was by accident when I changed a front wheel - the brake pad wear indicator wire had been wrongly routed and was touching the brake disc. The insulation had worn through and exposed the wires. The other side was just as bad. Once repaired with insulation tape and re-routed, the crackle stopped.
I have a standard 2.5 TD engine (19J) in a Land Rover (1988) and was wondering how I might go about adding an intercooler. Is is just a case of getting one from a scrappy and plumbing it in? Of course the turbo boost would have to then be turned up to maximise performance, but do I need to fiddle with the injection pump to put more fuel in the cylinder, or is this done automatically? found this on e-bay. Lots of other similar items too.
I think there should be a device mounted on the injection pump that measures boost pressure and adjusts fueling accordingly. You might not need to adjust this.
Best way is to road test and adjust until there is just the slightest whiff of smoke under heavy acceleration.
I have a car that is 4 years old that I intend to sell private.
It has a few stone chips on the bonnet, and some very light scratch marks around the door handles/locks. It also has a few parking scratches on the doors.
The choices I have are
1. Sell the car in its current state (and lower the price)
2. Go to chipsaway and get them fixed before I sell.
Would some scratch marks affect my ability to sell the car ? Read more
Sorry Puntoo and D.D. reply was meant for Quinny.

We have a 2002 Polo (new shape 1.2 65bhp), but having had some problems, we're considering a change. The problem is, we've not seen anything in its class or price range which compares with it (in terms of how it drives, how solid it feels, how it feels like a bigger car than it is etc.).
Have driven (in the same class):
Fiesta (1999, diesel) -- not impressed
Corsa (2001?, petrol) -- drives OK but feels smaller
Peugeot 206 (T-reg) -- drives OK but not impressed with build quality
Clio (2002) -- drives OK but feels smaller
Jazz (2003) -- best of the bunch, but still feels like a small car, and noisy engine compared to Polo, also more expensive (perhaps not like for like, but I'm not interested in 'spec').
Don't want to go to a bigger, more expensive car, but the Civic is the closest comparison to the Polo that I've found (obviously I know it's a lot bigger, but the drive feels similar).
Any other ideas? (N.B. I rule out Vauxhall and Ford on principle as US companies/Bush donors.) Or am I just unlucky and should I go for another Polo?

Have you looked at the new facelifted Yaris. We chose one
over the Jazz as they were around £1k cheaper. Also the
Yaris is much better build than Polo or Ibiza. Downside is
the Yaris is getting a little old now, replacement in 2
years.
I'll second that. Have not drivrn new Polo, but have driven a few thousand miles in a 2000 model, and a few hundred in a facelifted Yaris. To my mind, the Yaris is a much better car in every respect that matters -- the only reasons I can see to choose the Polo are the VW badge (if that matters to you), and if you like a car that feels heavily-built rather than one that's reliable.
YMMV, but I can see why HJ recommends the Yaris so highly.
Don't want to start a lengthy survey of who posts when, however I have noticed that there seems to be a lot less posts over the weekend than during the week.
From that, I conclude that
a. Every one else has a life at weekends and I don't!
b. I am too busy during the week to spend much time on the backroom or
c. Many of the backroomers are actually posting to the site when they should be working during the week!
Most probable though that I just don't have a life...... Read more
Hey, it was time management at it's very best, I had no time to spare but *needed* to continue the conversation! :-)
I also use it in front of the TV, and my favourite location is where I'm writing this from, tucked up in bed. :-)

Hello Dazz,
It won't take you long to get to know the Backroom, it's a friendly enough little place :-)

Anyone help please? Many years ago when a teen-ager, I can remember that my dad's Morris 1800 "land-crab" suffered from a problem when you finished driving and the engine was hot, when the engine was turned off the coolant overflowed in copious quantities and had to be topped up before the next journey could be started.
I cannot remember what the fix was - this is going back to about 1974. I've now come across an aquaintance who has the same problem with a Volvo 740 (petrol engined too).
Any ideas please. Read more
Used to have this problem on the Commer I fitted a slightly higher pressure radiator cap which reduced the problem. Problem there, as with the 1800 you had, is that the heat doesnt dissipate when the fan & coolant stop when you turn it off.
Electric fan is almost certainly the best solution since it will get rid of the heat faster anyway. As Cliff says its a sign that all is not right with the system, a good flush & clean of the radiator might also work wonders.
Well I hope this is not gittish but there are times one genuinely wants to share a special experience with friends and acquaintances, real or virtual. I still get the odd PM from BR-er's so I must have a few left.
160km ride, four Harleys, one French, two American and me (indeterminate) into the mountains south of Manila today. Very serious curves allied to 1-in-4 gradients and you better get that right on a 600lb bike or you won't get another go. I won't want to do that again without spare underwear. Phew. This is truly beautiful country.
Lake Ta'al is actually set inside a huge volcano. Inside the lake is another volcano, which has another lake inside that. The views are breathtaking, the more so when contemplated from the restaurant verandah while addressing a 1" prime rib with all the trimmings (9 Pounds your money). There are two world class golf-courses set into the mountainside. I am not a golfer but am told the Philippines has world class golf at low prices. Certainly the Japs love it. It's probably the 15 year old girl caddies who include cold beer on their carts that help. Then take the cable car over precipitous views in 20 C temps vs the oppressive 34 C today of Metro Manila.
Growlette is sulking because most of the girls are the pale-skinned Manila Filipino-Chinese ones and she has the browner skin of the provinciana. Not that it matters to me, but it is a status thing here.
Traffic (incredibly) was minimal and our small convoy hit over 100mph a few times on the country roads. On the tollway on the return trip a truck evidently holed a piston. He was on the hard shoulder (dangerous because everybody uses that if the traffic slows up) and the fog of stinky burnt oil smoke blacked out the view so badly that the cops were directing traffic (except you couldn't see them). I hit that at 80mph and spent an anxious moment pointing the thing and hoping somebody up there likes me.
What I really hate is the oil droppings when you pull up at the toll booth to pay. Then just as you get there having waited your turn in line some nice man in an Expedition with his hazards on and a government license plate followed by two Nissan Patrols with blacked out windows, no plates and sirens going decides he wants your place in line and shoves infront like you weren't there. If you accelerate away you risk losing it on a half-inch of black grease and either way you get an oily boot which not only slips off your footrest all the time but makes a mess of that nice Chinese rug and gets you an earful from the Ball & Chain when you get home.
Got an advanced case of wind-burn, too.
After that,we hit the pub and demolish a bottle of Jack between us while resolving world issues. Catherine moaning about how that new Corbin seat I bought is hard on her little buns. What to do. But she does look good in leather.
She's taking her Motorcyle Foundation Safety Course next month on 18th. Dadi if I pass can I get a Harley Sportster? (experience hugs and enveloped in lots of black fragrant hair)
Nothing like digging a hole and falling into it.

LOL Ian if this had to come from anybody it had to be you.
As for payback oh yes you bet, give 'em a hand they bite yer arm off. But they're so gorgeous what to do. I have had an eye on a local 2/hand Sporty 883 for a second bike actually so I could probably do a snow job......
I'm getting a loud popping sounds from my speakers when I turn the radio off, or if I turn the ignition off with the radio still on.
Any ideas?
Car is a Peugeot 106 1.4 diesel. Radio is a Goodmans radio cassette.
Had thought the popping sound was the engine, so a relief to discover it was the radio. Read more
Change the radio. Its a design fault (read cheap) Poor isolation of the output stage.

Vectra V6 leads were tricky enough to change - I dread to see what the Omega is like!
