Just seen one of them cars it states you can get 70 mpg of them & only need a motor bike licence, with the increase of traffic congestion of larger cars would it not be a good idea if we all hire out the cars for work and use the larger ones when needed ie holiday trips or shopping tips Read more
I have a astra 1993 1.4, the bhp is 60, I heard i could increase the bhp by kitting out with a k + n air filter can any one tell if they are effective and also do they improve the fuel consumption, also which ones are the best. Read more
I thought the same as you when i had a 1.2 clio. Induction kits do sound cool, but my car was quicker without it and used a lot less fuel without too.
have about 2 litres of castrol oil in the garage. anyone know of any uses for it apart from putting it in the engine!? ive found a local garage to change the oil now at a price i cant even do myself for less cash so have no use for this oil.

As well as the squirty oil can, don't you have a motor mower?
Forget that 'only use approved oil...'
I know this not really a biking forum, but its a friendly one. We have one at www.motorcyclephilippines.com but I am doing the Motorcycle Foundation Safety Course (special one for ladies, maximum 8 girls only) next month on 18th for 3 days. I am a Filipina with some riding experience but never took any lessons. Actually I "bought" my license ;+)
I am looking forward to this, I ride anyway a Yamaha Virago but my boss Big G won't allow me on his Harley rides on my own bike with the Chosen Few (that's his club), because he says not enough experience. I have to back ride with him and I got fed up with it. Too uncomfortable. My bike 750cc only not like those big Harleys so not so powerful. I love to ride. I don't like sport bikes, cruisers only bcos that's what is popular here and they look much better for fashion. I'm scared of corners and I hope my course will help me. I want to do it the way G and his pals does it. He says if the chicken strips on your tires are virgin you're not a serious rider.
I know this forum has lots of different interests ( I read it when he isnt looking) and I wondered if any bikers out there can offer me any suggestions to help me improve. I would love to hear from any girl bikers especially. My email is the_captain73@hotmail.com.
Thanks in advance for reading this post and hope this ok with HJ.

Before you trash it...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it actually illegal to park a caravan on a public highway when it is not physically attached to the towing vehicle bearing the registration mark shown on the caravan?
Is the 5 cylinder audi engine any good? and can anyone let me know what mileage they will run to without big problems? what interval for cam belts etc?

If you take a look at the car-by-car breakdown for the V70 up to 2000 and the one from 2000 onwards here's what HJ has to say about the Audi TDI engine (not Volvo's own D5 fitted to later model V70s):
"TDI timing belt drives water pump and, if water pump fails, so does belt. Have also been repeated problems of timing belt tensioners failing and throwing off the belt."
"Recall of TDIs to replace timing belt tensioner."
I believe that Volvo's own D5 engine is a much better proposition but if you do get the TDI you'll want to make sure that recall work was done - should be detailed in the service book...
Good luck!
The door mirrors on my Bora have "synchronised". This means that they adjust together when I operate the right adjuster, and the left one can still be adjusted by itself. According to the manual, I must have acheived this by having adjusted each mirror to the "basic position".
I have no idea what the basic position is - at least, not in connexion with VW door mirrors. I should like to unsynchronise the mirrors, but the manual assumes that no-one should want to do so, since it gives no clue as to how to do it.
The manual also says that "it might be necessary to return the mirrors to the basic position if the synchronised mirror adjustment function has been used regularly". (God knows how that must look in German).
Can anyone throw any light on how I can unsynchronise and on what all of this nonsense means?

Never had any problems with the mirrors on any of the vehicles. It might just be that you have a switch/mirror problem that prevented the mirrors synchronising originally; hence the non adjusting problem you occasionally have.
1.6 New Beetle, there is an odd knocking noise from the rear, noticeable during acceleration (engine past about 2,000 rpm), or during braking, or over rough surfaces ? Had a mechanic check the exhust, which was OK - I\'m wondering if the exhaust is out of alignment and knocking on the suspension. Kind of sounds like mice with small hammers ! The noise goes once you\'re cruising .... Read more
Hi,
The stop sign on my Passat 115pd has came on very briefly (1 sec or less) when frist started it goes out as soon as car starts. The car starts and drives as normal still returning 50+ mpg. It only seems to happen when car has been left parked up for a couple of days or more and does not stay on long enough to show the fault (oil presure, coolant level, brake fluid etc). Put the car into VW to have it plugged into the vag com no faults recorded. Incidently the car has covered 58,000 miles from new full vw service and extra oil change between services. Anybody any thoughts on this problem?
Thanks in advance.

We have loads of fifty cc micros in Spain. They may be driven without a licence or test as they are classed as motor scooters under 50cc
They are absolutely diabolical machines as they are driven either by kids of 14 or incompetent pensioners and have a maximum speed of about 30 mph. Dangerous doesn\'t begin to describe them!
