Can HJ or anyone please advise if the pressure indicators that are permanently attached to car tyres are good and, if so, what make(s) is/are decent. Many thanks.

I have a couple of sets and they work well but I wouldnt fit them to every car for two reasons:
- They protrude more than a conventional valve cap and therefore get scrapped on the kerb with certain wheels.
- More of a disadvantage is the fact that the red indicator moves only a tiny bit with quite a large reduction of pressure. For example, on my Rangerover its needs a pressure drop of 3 to 5 PSI before you can see that the indicator is showing. Even then you've got to squat down and look at it closely. So its certainly not a case of just being able to walk round the vehicle and see whether any tyre had dropped a couble of PSI. tyr

The fan motor on my vectra cdx has stopped working the car has climate control so not just a straight forward switch and reostat control anybody experianced this? and what is the cure? Read more
If display is working ok but no fan blower, first check fuses & relay on fuseboard.(there is one specifically for blower motor that often goes faulty)If all of these are ok it requires removal of air intake scuttle panel to gain access to motor & electronic speed controller.
This is one car, above all others I'd love to have a drive in. Don't suppose I'll ever get a chance though.
Anybody out there been in one, driven one, or even owned one?
Would love to hear any tales about them... Read more

Still a Vauxhall though ;)
A low life of society has wrecked the door on my sons Fiat Punto, by forcing the top rear corner outwards whilst trying to break in to his car. This has completely damaged the door frame beyond repair, as there is now a 5\" gap tapering towards the front whilst it is closed plus other damage. I assume that the alarm going off deterred the ******* from gaining access to the car.
I have sourced a second hand door, (which was already off the car when my son picked it up), but I am unsure as to how the hinges are secured. On the ?new? door the top hinge has a lug which obviously drops into the hinge on the body and there appears to be a bolt or bolt that I assume secures it in position. Does the bottom hinge just need the securing bolt undoing and the hinge tapping out, as that appears to have a nut on it?
My other problem is the door lock. I have removed locks in the distant past (20 years ago) whereby the key was inserted and turned, and then a plunger was depressed so that the lock could be removed. Does anybody have any knowledge of how it is achieved on a Punto door?
In anticipation,
Reggie

Sorted.
The door has two bolts and it then lifts off.
The lock has a clip that slides under the lock against the door.

My next door neighbour has had a long running intermittent problem starting his AX.
Today he had a \'tune up man\' out who has diagnosed and fixed the problem. The bit that he has replaced is similar to a HT lead but it has a reddy/brown electrical connector one end and a diffrent type of connector at the other end. Some sort of sensor that has being affecting his petrol/electrical performance according to my neighbour.
He was charged £70 for it including £35ish for the bit.
Can anyone tell me what he has paid for please? Read more
Thanks for that Andrew.
I see in this weeks` Auto Express that Suburu are aiming to have black box devices fitted to all their vehicles within two years.
It seems that without full engine monitoring, with owners removing their tuning boxes prior to their main dealer servicing, manufacturers are currently picking up the tab for expensive engine rebuilds under warranty.
In future once black boxes are fitted, all ECU mods and tuning devices will be detectable and not only will the vehicles warranty be invalidated, but the true vehicle`s history will be made available to the used car buying public. Read more
If your car is out of warrantee anyway, then why do
you need to remove the mod before MOT?
Does it put emissions above acceptable limits?
I dont think so but in saying that TDIs can sometimes be tricky to get through the smoke test last time mine passed with 0.98 out of a maximum 3.0 with the device disconnected. Its anyones guess if it would lead to a fail if left plugged in.All I know is in everyday driving It dosen`t lead to any noticeable increase in smoke but revving the nuts off it at standstill as in the MOT I wouldnt like to guess because Its something I never do to my car.

We have one of our cars parked in the drive at the moment, having a month off, as we sometimes do (no, really, officer). It seems silly to declare SORN if it's going back on the road in a fortnight, but I assume that if we don't, we will get clobbered by the new regs. Can we still apply early for the tax to run from next month, and will that cover it?
Apologies if the answer to this is already here somewhere - I just haven't seen it. Read more
You can declare SORN on the phone if you are the registered keeper. They send you a letter confirming it.

This happened to my Cavalier also, and after speaking to the Vauxhall dealer I discovered that there is no adjusment to take up the cable stretch. Not wanting to splash out on a new cable, I opened the bonnet by getting someone else to sit on it whilst I pulled the handle, and used a 5mm plastic tie-wrap to 'noose' the end of the cable where it pulls the bonnet release hook. Then tightened up the tie-wrap and chopped the end off it, thus taking up 5mm of slack in the cable. Hey presto - no more bonnet release problems!
