Am I really sad enough to say that the text says he is driving a Lexus GS 300 but the picture shows quite clearly he is not?

No, I'm not that sad.

Amusing article though!

Van Driving Man

Are there any self-employed (or otherwise for that matter!) 'white van type' couriers out there who might be willing to share the pros and cons with someone thinking of starting up as a self-employed courier?

Any and all advice welcomed....

Cheers,

I did it and when you do the sums properly you're better off working for someone else letting them have all the headaches

Hi. This is my 1st post to the forum.I hope someone may be able to help,as my local peugeot garage does not seem to know the answer after plugging into their computer, several bills and replacement of glow plugs which made no difference. I have owned car about 3 years
1998 car has done 120k serviced every 6k. Engine starts ok sometimes but more and more frequently it starts and then immediately stops, does this up to 3 times and then starts and runs ok. Also, occassionaly it sort of very briefly hesitates while running. Lastly and most worrying on a couple of occassions engine has completely cut out while on motorway but immediately restarts.
Would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas. Thanks

5. Get decent gear. Leather is essential.>>

Not necessarily, you can get good quality Cordura (fabric) jackets which are more waterproof than leather and are cooler in hot weather. Make sure they come with CE approved protection on the shoulders, elbows and back though. Some come with a removable lining for when the weather is cold too. Even some professional bikers (like instructors) say that fabric jackets are more comfortable for daily use. Leather is essential for trackdays though, and you can zip the jacket and trousers together to stop the jacket from riding up as you slide along the tarmac. Think about comfort as well as protection.

Whatever you get, make sure it comes from a bike shop - the fashion clothing whether it's leather or fabric is NOT up to the job of protecting you in a fall.

As others have said, anticipate the actions of others - riding isn't dangerous but crashing is. But also get ready for lots of good fun.

Do a Google worldwide search for 22G1553 and you will find references to the Mini (original), Sprite and Spitfire.

This sounds to be very good value. The mobile people I have used charge about £75 per panel.

In attempt to combine practicality with fun, and with a limited budget of around 4k, i've been looking at Impreza turbo estates.

Opinions please, Gentlemen! (And ladies, of course!) Read more

Well done, Owen.

Your experience shows that prices for tidy, early Imprezas have obviously dropped substantially.

Congratulations and welcome to the club.

Hi,

Recently my 96 model 306 Turbo diesel is having starting isssues, most days it starts first time with not effort, others it cuts out after its started and more and more its just refusing to start. I've replaced the glowplugs and not really noticed the difference. I'm not sure if its connected but I feel its lost a bit of power, the turbo seems slower to kick in. I've just had a new exhaust fitted, its fully serviced and I've even paid £200 for a new clutch(Irrelavent). Anyone any ideas ? Read more

XTDemonT

My XTDT D8A does the surging then cuts off. Also the white dial looking thing on the side of the filter housing is leaking fuel. I'm going to open the housing during sunlight tomorrow. I went and got a new filter and some different o rings. Hopefully I wont need a new housing. A week ago Changing the glow plugs I found a split end on the boost compensator hose and cut a clean end. It had heaps more boost from around 2000rpm to around 4000 when the fuel supply couldn't keep up. But now its got fuel leaks.

On M4 London bound last Monday . I was nearly hit by a Range Rover with blaked out windows, making sudden , unsignalled lane changes. Eventually when alongside him I saw him on hand-held phone. Car worth £40K plus but too idle to get a hands-free.
I called on my hands free to report him , and was told I should go to a station to make a statement .As I was enroute to a business meeing I couldnt take the time to do that but I said I would if they caught him . I was told -in effect- that they wouldn't bother . Read more

I think that if someone actually makes the effort to go to a police station to report bad driving, then they really must believe that what they witness was truely dangerous. Afterall, these days people are lazy, and finding somewhere to park, then walking to the nick, and waiting to give a statement is a bit of a drag isn't it.

I've actually done it twice. The most recent was about 3 years ago. I witnessed an X5, with blacked out windows, intimidate vehicles on the M6 one wet winters evening. The vehicle was acting very aggressively, bearing down on other vehicles at speed, flashing lights at them, honking the horn, undertaking and weaving in and out of the heavy traffic.

I actually placed a call to motorway police to tell them I thought that an accident could occur, and then diverted off to the local nick to make a report. The way that I saw it was that if an accident did occur later in the X5's journey, then at least there would be a statement as to the manner in which it was being driven.

That diversion cost me 45 minutes, but I was genuinely concerned about the danger that the driver posed.

I wouldn't call that nannying, or dobbing on a neighbour, I would call it responsible citizenship.

I've started regular trips Oxford-Ipswich so am now using the A12 from the M25 to Ipswich .Two things about that road strike me
The road surface in parts has really deep grooves worn by lorries , which disturb handling and are potentially dangerous with a slick of rain on them .Presumably the authorities know but are afraid to do the necessary roadworks because of the chaos they cause.
I've also noticed for some reason an exceptionally high proportion of wrong/broken lights being used by drivers on that road. Eg Wed night , on the A12 about 173O , London bound , it was already overcast and twilight ...I counted coming the opposite way between M25 and Ipswich, over 100 vehicles with ..
parking lights only (even as late as 1845, and travelling at 60-80 mph) ...broken lights ...dip plus fogs although no visibility problem (except the glare caused by the foglights !) and in a couple of cases, no lights at all ..surely unbelievably dangerous when 90% of traffic has lights on. I changed the rear stop/tail bulbs on my vehicle last week as both brake lights had failed. Within ONE DAY, one of the tail light filaments had gone. I haven't had time to change it again but it'll get done Saturday. So when you see someone driving with faulty tail/brake lights, don't just assume they can't be bothered fixing them!
