I am thinking about buying an Accord coupe. I am not sure however whether to go for the 2.0 or the 3.0. The 3.0 is 200bhp and 0-60 in about 8 secs which sound like fun.

However presumably the downside is worse fuel consumption (not too worried about this); higher servicing costs?; harder to sell in 3/4 years time??

Any other views? Is a V6 likely to be less smooth than the 4? Read more

Possibly a bit late to the party, but one note of caution is that because the Accord coupe is only built in the US from parts imported from Japan, Insurance is high!

Can someone tell me if it is possible to get a set of golf clubs in the boot of an Audi A3.
Also, how many would fit in an A4?
I can't make up my mind what to go for and this might influence it a bit.

Wally,

Be warned that, on the latest A4, folding rear seats are an extra cost optional extra(!).

The extra cost isn't that high but a contact in a leasing firm tells me that a number of punters had a nasty shock when they found that their cars lacked this useful feature.

PS It's a very well built car.

I am considering purchasing this previous shape A6 quattro with the diesel engine. It has averaged 15000 miles per year & is 1 owner with FASH.
I obtained service history printout from audi servicing dealer which itemises Cylinder Head and Cambelt jobs done at exactly same mileage last year at cost of £1100.
Should I be wary / walk away or look on the positive side that these items have been sorted recently by an audi dealer.
If I proceed I intend to have it professionally inspected by ABS.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your replies.
Will proceed with caution - asking price is 7999, it is an avant.
Subject to satisfactory inspection what should I offer / pay ?

Now I've seen it all...

Just read about a major tuning outfit in the States that has decided to produce its own performance version of the Focus.

None of the available four-pot Zetec motors are deemed good enough, soo....they've shoe-horned a supercharged 4.6 litre V8 from the SVT Mustang Cobra under the hood, wound it up to 500bhp or so, and sent drive south to the rear wheels (straightforward job, apparently: the exhaust tunnel is already big enough to take a propshaft).

Result is a car which covers the quarter mile in around 11 seconds and spins its wheels gleefully in third (no surprise: there's 500lbs/ft of torque).

It's called the Terminator Focus and it's on sale to the public for $69,500 plus the donor Focus. Read more

A week ago someone asked about tips on freeing a bike seat pillar. Now the thread seems to have vanished. I looked through 'I have a Question' but gave up trying to plough through it all.
It seems to me it would be better if questions were kept separate rather than just tipped into the 'IHAQ' pot and lost.
I quite understand it was not a motoring question therefore perhaps here on sufferance anyway. Read more

Well, Ian, got the mag and the Hertz Mustang GT350 article. What a car eh? Makes most of the rest in the mag look pretty feeble, unless you count the new Audi. Thanks much.

The writer knows his stuff. The real "Gone in Sixty Seconds" movie was indeed made in 1974, not that feeble Nicolas Cage follow-up. The script was written in 2 hours and the 40 minute chase destroyed 93 cars, it is said. Now that's what I call a CAR MOVIE.

I have currently got 13 inch rims with 185/13/65 tyres. thinking of changing to 15 inch alloys with 195/15/60 tyres. Is this going to be ok?

Will they fit and not cause any problems i.e. gearbox ratio/fuel consumption/steering/suspension?

Many Thanks

Any wheels from ET33 (Corrado ofset) to ET38 will be fine. Late mk.2 with factory fitted 15" wheels are ET35 ofset.

In Clarkson's road test of the new Rolls Royce on Top Gear he praised the minimalist approach to instrumentation - just a big speedometer and 'power usage' meter. Quite a different approach to the parent company's BMW 7 series I-Drive with sufficient instrumentation displays available for a lunar module.

I confess to liking gadgets and am forever looking at the various functions of the computers on both of my cars, although I really don't need to know my average MPH/MPG - not that they are that accurate anyway. With BMW's toy I would be tempted even more, with the consequent distraction from driving.

Have Rolls Royce got it right - do we really need so much information?

As the custodian and carer for the company Cavalier, I can testify that the water temp. guage is an indespensable item. I have learnt to watch this with an Eagle eye, I have found that throughout its documented cooling problems that the guage provided plenty of forewarning of faliure, I can now predict the point which the thermostat opens and closes and how the guage's position relates to coolant remaining. The Beemer's on the other hand goes up to halfway within a 1/2 mile of starting, stays there, and seems to lack the hair trigger quality of the ancient Cav's needle. Anyway there are two other idiot llights on the Beemer that predict doom in the coolant department (low coolant and high temp) so is a guage needed in a modern car ? Good question.

i have just been to veiw an audi 100 2.5tdi 1993 with 180000miles the car has full main dealer history and is faultless apart from when starting the glow pluglight does not come on when the ignition is turned on but the engine starts instantly if left for about 4-5 seconds with ignition on, once started the glowplug light flashes for as long as the engines is running any ideas? Read more

It could indicate a fault in the engine management system. If the glow plug light stays on or flashes it may be similar to VW diesels. It may sound bizarre but a glow plug warning light staying on could indicate that the brake lights are not working (i.e. faulty brake light switch). Is it an AUDI dealer selling the car? If so get the dealer to plug the car into a diagnostic machine to see what's going on. I wouldn't buy it until the cause is known.

hi all , ok i have just got hold of a 1990 ford fiesta 1100 got this very cheap hence the age and the engine had died,i have now put a second hand ford fiesta 1300 engine in, problem is guess this engine must of been a 1300 cfi engine as there is no place for a manual fuel pump to go(not even a blanking plate) ,(should of checked i guess ) anyway some how i need to convert this to a electric pump , i have kept to a standard weber carb , as im not supplying fuel injection do i still need a regulator , i want to keep this a basic as i can ,the manual pump had flow return and supply to the carb , so what do i need to look for and do you know of a make of car i can get one from the breakers , any help on this would be great asap please , going in for mot end of next week :-(

Yes, for safety's sake you have to wire up the fuel pump so that if the engine cuts out/stalls for whatever reason and the ignition is still on, the fuel pump electrical supply is cut so you don't keep pumping fuel. Not 100% sure where you would wire this into, but something in the back of my mind says to wire it into the alternator light circuit via a relay.
