Hi All,
I have had a knocking coming from the Front Left of my 205. Happens mainly on acceleration, when turning left. You can feel the knock through the steering wheel, as well as hearing it. (I am fairly sure it is not the CVs as it is not a 'click', and does not happen on full lock.
I took it to the garage this morning, and they have replaced the N/S front Roll bar Drop link and the OF Front Strut top mount. They also gave me an advisory that the front engine mount is worn, but not badly enough to warrant replacement.
After the repair, the knocking is better on left turns, but now is there under hard acceleration, even when going straight.
Any ideas as to what could be causing it, as the garage seemed bemused when I called them to tell them that the knock was back!

The BX autobox (ZF 4HP14) has a cooler as standard fitment (its a round thing, about 12cm diameter, on top of the 'box and plumbed into the heater system circuit).
Hi folks. Some of you will know we're buying a car for 'er indoors and have been applying for her Provisonal Licence. Well, just to let you know, her application was sent off by Special Delivery last Tuesday, her passport and marriage certificate were returned on Saturday and her paper/photocard licence arrived today. 1 week from start to finish - not bad eh !
I would suggest that anyone sending passports etc. uses Special Delivery for to send and for the return of these. It costs less than £10 and IMO it's well worth it just for the peace of mind. Read more
...And when my new V70 was incorrectly registered as a '52' instead of an '03', I had a call back from my local DVLA office within minutes of contacting the national call centre.
The error was admitted after a few simple questions, and a new V5 arrived the following day together with an apology letter (which will also help explain to whoever buys the car from me in the future why the import paperwork is stamped with a registration mark that differs from reality).
I was extremely impressed and wish my thoroughbred bank would learn how to use call centres like this!
Anyone know the the recommended trye pressures for a 1989 Nissan Bluebird 2.0L Diesel fitted with 185/70/HR14 tyres. The loaded and light load figures would be appreciated. Regards Peter Read more

HI I live and work in the UAE which is tax free middle east country. Car prices here are also cheap compared to the UK especially the Japanese brands. For example a brand new shape honda accord auto with the 2000 cc engine costs 64,000 dhs. 3.67 dhs = 1 $US so in UK it equtes to 11k brand new, and the cars are well speced here due to strong competition all cars come with a/c elec mirrors/windows/pas/c-locking/ abs etc etc.
Local Mercedes dealer is selling 1.8 classic c lass with leather and auto at 108,000 dhs which is 18.4k uk sterling plus 1 years free insurance.
New shape Toyota Camry\'s start at approx 60,000 dhs

I think i've been in receipt of censorship. Quite rightly so I imagine. Apologies.

Update on the "Win a Ford Ranger" contest. I should think by the time you've sat in one this long the last thing you'd want is to own it....

I haven't driven my car for a while (Rover 220sdi) and after jacking up the car and checking the front brakes, following a post yesterday, I took it for a spin.
As soon as I pulled away there was a loud knocking noise coming from the rear of the car - this lasted a while but has now dissapeared. Any ideas what it was? Read more
Check your tyres, I had a similar thing on my old rover.
The front n/s tyre tread had somehow become blistered, it was difficult to find and it was only by chance I noticed it.
New tyre, problem solved. Good luck
’94 VW Golf 1.8GL, just shy of 80k, full service history. Burgandy. No rust, body is good for age, I’d say.
What do you think?
I assume I’ll get more for a private sale, but I’d certainly welcome some advice on what I should except as a trade-in offer…

And a guy who bought it several traders later recently contacted me and had paid £4500 for it! Mind you, the mileage read 70k, and he was not well pleased when I told him it had 140k when I parted company with it.
A 1994 Peugeot 405 , I have discovered that there is water getting into the car , the rear passenger floor behind the drivers seat is soaking , is this a problem that can easily be fixed ? I have no idea where the water is coming in from but it looks like its coming from the boot area and rolling down into the rear passenger floor . Any ideas >? Read more
In case it wasn't any of these possibilities, another is the plastic membrane in the rear door, which has to be removed to fix anything like central locking, window winders, or a glass repair after a break-in. If it is not put back properly, rainwater from the glass runs into the door then into the car behind the trim panel.
I have recently bought a Ford Fiesta Zetec (T reg, 35K FSH etc.)which is fantastic to drive, however having just completed a long weekend driving around Snowdonia, I have noticed a rather strange rattling noise coming from the passenger side. It seems to appear really once I reach 50-60mph and over, but this morning noticed a slight buzzing rattling when changing from 1st to 2nd. At first I thought it was stuff rattling in the glove box but emptied that and still there, removed boyfriend from front seat...nope still there. Very hard to see where it is coming from but boyfriend seems to think it is coming from somewhere in the central console area i.e. where radio, heater controls are but would be grateful for any insight. Car is obviously under warranty (bought from local Nissan dealership with their full approved warranty).
Any ideas???!!

Subject: Constant knocking sound from the crash padding/fascia when the heater control switch is set to a temperature between MIN and MAX.
Summary
Should a customer express concern about a constant knocking sound when the temperature is set via thecontrol switch to a temperature between MIN and MAX, this is probably caused by coolant flowing through the heater control valve. This sound is transmitted via the crash padding/fascia to the passenger compartment and can be amplified by any air trapped in the system. The noise should be reduced by installing revised insulation to the heater control valve in conjunction with a modified heater coolant hose.
The cooling system should also be bled according to the instructions in this bulletin.

I had the drive shaft joints on my 205 fail.
The sympton was a knocking, not a click, under acceleration.
It got worse quite quickly - about a month, and both had to be replaced.
This happened a few months after a quick-fit place replaced my front discs. I suspected they messed up the rubber gaitors so grit got in. Could not prove it, so could not claim off them. Would never use them again.
