is it any good? , anything comparable on the market? Read more
I got a renewal notice through from my insurers yesterday. Bacause I didn't have Protected No-Claims Discount I thought I'd go on their web site and find out what the difference would be.
Imagine my surprise when it came back with a quote that was over £200 LESS than the renewal notice!
I thought it would be more because I wanted to add an option onto my policy, but for it to be so much less was amazing.
I phoned them up to ask why and was told not to complain, and just take the online quote.
I think I'll look elsewhere.

I'm with Direct Line - their quote was much less than any of the others (about £150 lower I think).
On a tangent, my home insurance with them has just come up for renewal, and shopping around I have found Liverpool Victoria is over £200 a year cheaper. They do motor insurance too, so maybe they're competitive for that too? Could be worth a call...
Just bought a ’99 Pug 306 HDi, my first diesel.
So, anything I need to be aware of after driving petrol cars for 16 years? I know about the glow plug (!)…how about fuel choice? Are the days of diesels with blackened rear ends over? Any fluid levels I should be keeping a wary I on?

No it was a Robin, Dizzie. An Enfield frame with a Japanese (or possibly American) Robin diesel engine in lieu of the Indian petrol unit, 0-60 was in months ! (up early today - big case !)
Yet again the subject of how this site is moderated has cropped up. The people that start these ranting sessions ought to realise by now that once Mark or I spot these threads then they will be pulled without notice, so your time and effort you put into these moderator rants are completely wasted.
As mentioned many many times before, should anyone wish to discuss moderator issues, you can email mailto:moderators@honestjohn.co.uk and discuss them privately with us. Discussing them publicly on this forum is a complete waste of time.
If you aren\'t happy with the way the site is run, then please feel free to leave. No one is forcing you to stay here.
Now can we move on and get back to the issues of discussing motoring perhaps?

Does anyone know how long it should take for the registration document to arrive when buying a new car?
Is three weeks a long time? Read more
Not at all. I like closure on these threads. :)
Does anyone know if it's possible to repair a snapped cable on a ford mondeo 2001 window regulator without having to buy the whole regulator? It's the drivers's window.
What is the likely reason for it snapping?
I've contacted several breakers in the Manchester area but they all say 'the car's too new, we've none in yet'. Anyone help.
I live in north east Lancs.
Thanks

Cyd, thanks for the reply but I forgot to mention that my Mondeo's an import and only had 12 months warranty.
My Fiat Uno that i want to sell is not firing since i bought a new car, think it must have fell out with me.
The engine has had a oil leek for a while but i have put up with it. The holes in which the spark plugs go are full of oil to the extent where you can just see the top of the plug.
I'm going to try and clean the oil out and remove the plugs.
Anyone have any ideas?

This thread will be moved to the Technical Forum later today.
The AA has now joined the list of dealers selling cars over the internet (they may have been doing it for some time, but I've only just found out about them). Based on a quick survey of their on-line prices, I'm really puzzled about their business plan.
These examples are all OTR, non-metallic, with no options selected and discounts are quoted against Ford's OTR list prices:
Ford Fusion, Series 2, 1.4 TDCI Diesel - Discount £1.18 (that's one pound eighteen pence!)
Ford Fiesta 1.4 LX 5Dr AC Petrol - Discount £30.00.
Ford Focus 1.4 CL 3Dr Petrol - Discount £218.46
Ford Focus Special Edition 1.4 Studio 3Dr - Discount £2,030.00 or £2,021.48 (different prices listed on different web pages). This example is difficult to calculate because the special edition isn't listed in Ford's price list. It seems to have the same spec as Ford's cheapest Focus, the 1.4CL mentioned above, so I've assumed it's worth the same - list price £10,645.00 and AA price £8,615.00 or £8,623.52.
So what a mixed bag.
Look them up for yourself on www.theaa.com and then click on "Find a car" and then "New Car Search".
The AA says, "All new cars are supplied from within the UK, to UK market specifications". I suppose this implies they are not imports, but the wording is just vague enough to allow them to source their cars from non-main dealers, if they chose.

Yeah, but
a. Tesco, Direct Line, Liverpool Victoria and others have some imported variants on their books - they give you a drop down menu to choose which model when I was looking for my parents' Focus Flight
b. A Studio is a 1.4 LX three door sold at a lower price (£10k list as against £11150 or so) and can be had for a lot less than that again
Does anybody know if it is expensive to get a Ford Orion lowered?
Will it effect my insurance?

Buy a C5 - it does it itself as required!
Everywhere i look all i seem to be seeing is the new Micra, is this car taking the place of the Ford fiesta, as i do not seem to see that many new style fiestas around, but this new car seems to be selling like hot cakes. No faults yet. Read more
I think the whole design is pretty funky. A bit startling, I grant you, but it's amazing how quickly we get used to these things, and I take my hat off to any large manufacturer brave enough to risk something a bit different. Does anyone know who designed it?
"I bought my Road Angel about 3 weeks ago just after I was caught speeding!"
