Hi
i have a 2.4 petrol maunal volvo 940 and have bought a caravan - 1100 kgs.
It tows the 'van no probs, but i fancy a 3 litre auto Volvo 960 Estate / V90 - the 3 litre is about 150 kgs heavier too.
Will be auto box be OK towing the 'van?
Not too fussed about feul consumption

I've towed 1100kg+ with automatics for years now, BX, XM and now the Jeep pulling 1600Kg.
Handbook for the BX said an additional transmission cooler might be necessary but the dealers said not and I never any problem.
Worth asking a Volvo dealer but these things are such popular towcars I doubt any extra cooling will be needed.
Good luck with the towing electrics - IIRC Volvo use the 13-pin european socket in their own brand kit, so you might need a Y-splitter for the 12N/12S sockets on the caravan.
Safe towing!

The BX autobox (ZF 4HP14) has a cooler as standard fitment (its a round thing, about 12cm diameter, on top of the 'box and plumbed into the heater system circuit).

An additional cooler looks like a good investment.
