Any one out there know the specified timing intervals for cambelt changes on Mondeo Endura de engines in terms of mileage and years. Read more
Hi,
My Vectra 01Y - 2.2LS is going in for its year 2 major service tomorrow at a Vaux dealer - is there anything I need to ask specifically - has anyone had any problems/issues/questions etc that may be worth bringing up at the start ?
Cheers,

One wonders if there is a way of adding a "dessicant" of some description to the brake circuit - any chemists out there know of a substance which can remove water from brake fluid?
now this is odd to me but maybe not be to you guys ;)
Basically over the last say 2 months the car is generally been
loosing the ability to maintain a constant speed as such without hopping/ jumping call it what you will.
What happens is this :
Join motorway say 80mph when trying to accelerate the car
seems to \"hop\" \"jump\" to that effect anyways and i can not go any
faster... also the orange engine light comes on.
now
the same effect as above but i can now go no more than 70 mph
now
again same effect but now im am limited to 60pmh lol.
I can see a general decline here! Now when the car is cold in the morning it revs thru the gears (auto) sorta normal but once hot it has a hard time accelereating without \"hopping\" and the light appearing.
Soon ill be limited to 30mph lol i reckon. I heard something
about velocity in the auto box so should i check oil in gearbox and replace, is this the issue maybe ?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Many thanks

I have a 1998 1.4 saxo which has only done 33K miles to date. Mostly short runs 4-5 miles each journey. Citroen advise change the cambelt at 72K service and they do not give a time limit.
What should I do?
As the car is coming up to 5 years old I feel inclined to get the belt changed but is this necessary? Read more
Thank you
Looking at a Haynes manual last night they say that the belt life is 36000 miles if used for short journeys.
What should I expepect to pay at a non citroen garage for thsi change?
Thinking of replacing my Missus' run about Fiesta with an A2 this Summer. We like its quirkiness & individuality without looking too extrovert etc. and appreciate the quality of the cabin. We thought the best model to go for may be an ex-demo 1.4 SE (£11k-£13k)
Any Back-Roomers have any brief opinions on this car/views.

I couldn't answer for certain other than Herr Pischetsrieder gave a talk about the need to concentrate on profitable cars in an interview in "Die Welt" and the Lupo and A2 were mentioned. These comments were made about Sept/Oct.
I don't see Auto Trader myself, but it is normally pretty good on new machines, especially with Auto Bild being its sister magazine. If anyone can point to more info on the new Lupo I would be very grateful. I quite liked the Lupo when I drove one.
He also made some comments about VW group cars being based on the same platform. This would continue, but there would be greater differences between a Golf, Audi and a Seat based on the same platform. What form this would take he didn't elaborate. There would also be an end to the "competition" between each company in the VW group.
I suppose one of the problems of taking over at a big car company is that plans of your predecessor have to followed through sometimes!
What would you pay for a 2000 v mondeo glx 1.8 with 89000 on the clock, from a dealer with full service history.
Is it better to go for older car with lower mileage or newer car with more mileage, it was a reps car so its munched motorway but has the 1.8 engine had a hard time pulling this estate around? Read more
Anyway, the estate body isn't all that much heavier than the
hatch or saloon.
It's not the body weight but what was carted around in the back that matters. Was he delivering bags of cement or feather dusters?
My Dad is after a 2.2 Citroen C5 hdi, probably the sx spec. He test drove one at Reg Vardy as they had a limited number of 03 plates going for £12,995. UK spec as far as I know. He really liked the car but I think he thinks he can get a better deal somewhere else and the depreciation is quite steep. I haven't seen any anywhere near this price but Dad is still umming and aaring. Am I right in thinking that he should snap their arm off!?

I think I'll print him out HJ's breakdown on the car, might put him off a little! He was also looking at a focus diesel estate or maybe even a Stilo multiwagon as well as the C5 hatch. I think he is keen on the citroen because of the multi-level suspension and because the diesel tuning place he took his xantia to say they get the best improvements out of Citroen & Renault regarding flexibility of the engine. They don't seem to get much improvement out of Fords. But that could be because Ford have got it right with their diesel engines to begin with....

Just need a guide on how much i should be asking for my 1996 Nreg vectra saloon 2.0GLS with very high mileage 178,000
In fairly good condition and drives well
thanks for your help Read more
Andy
Noted, but I hoped you picked up the light cynicism in my post!
The prices on the carprice guides are around £7K for my Zafira yet Autotrader has similar examples with similar mileage for upto 10K.
Mine cost me £12,750 (after GM points) and so the depreciation doesn't look to bad at the moment, probably due to a shortage of old high mileage ones, and IMHO it really is a pretty good car, yes I really do need to carry four kids around with me, and yes I am boring.
So I can get a new one, with posh paint for around £14,700, with another £2k off with my GM points. So that doesn't look like too bad a depreciation hit in the future either.
Has anyone driven an LPG Zafira?
What are the residuals like on OEM Dualfuel Vauxhalls?
Hi Guys,
I currently own a 7 year old Audi A4 1.8 but desperately need to get back to a sporty car. As the family is growing we need another 4 door saloon and the Accord seems to fit the bill perfectly.
I've found a couple at main dealers around the £10k mark. Which, for a 3 year old car seems v.reasonable. They're very quick, the VTEC motor makes all the right noises and of course there's the legendary Japanese build quality etc etc.
Anyone got any experience of the Type R?? or have any other suggestions. I expect to run the car for at least 3 years and do about 12k miles PA.
Any help/advice much appreciated.

What was it Damon Hill said about it in Top Gear when it first came out?
"It's quite good"
That's about as excited as Damon gets with manufactured cars. So that's "very good" in normal-speak

Once you do get it fitted, don't forget to let the rest of us know where the road is,in this country, that you'll be able to use it!

Up to 1996- 40000 or 5years, 1996-2002 70000 or 5 years. Change times for the injection pump belt vary but I would change it at the same time anyway as it puts little extra time on the job. Use only Ford parts and change tensioners and guide rollers. Ford reduce the time for belt changes to 40000 miles under adverse conditions (short journeys, stop-start) but in my book I would replace at 36000 miles or 3 years under all circumstances. Interestingly I noted on a Vauxhall cambelt box that they have a shelf life of only 5 years and that is stationary in a sealed box!
