Anyone know if £130 was too much to spend on Michelin Pilot Primacy size: 225/45 r 17 91y. This price was all-in. Read more

Hi,
On my 306 convertible.I have managed to break off a metal bar on my mechanism for the convertible hood. The bar could possibly rewelded back but would require removing the hood.
It seems an easy enough job to remove the hood but I would rather trust it to a professional. Does anyone know of a convertible specialist who would be able to repair the mechanism? I also have the option to source a replacement mechanism cheaply. However fitting it is the problem. Once again I would prefer a professional did the job rather than Peugeot. I don't think they would know what they were doing + I dont trust them to do it right!
Cheers Read more
Thanks for that.
Unfortunately I spend most of my time around Manchester & Bristol. I did manage to find a retrim place in Manchester www.autoretrim.freeserve.co.uk/ but he can't do the job until 2nd week of July! :(
He quoted me £120 to do the job.
So I am still on the look out.
Can't find this covered already, so please help. I see from reports that speedo failure on 406 is known problem. What is the usual fault ? ( yes I know the needle stops moving ! )Is it usually the dash unit or something in the gearbox. I've checked for loose connections to the dash, so I assume its a replacement job. Any good contacts for the parts needed would be appreciated. Read more
Has yours failed Stumpy? If so, what model is yours. On the 2.1td, the usual cause is an "interface" box, found high up in the glove box compartment, with a lot of other "boxes". This is a box of electrical gubins. Mine failed at 45,000 miles. I first replaced the electronic drive unit(£40.00), and when this didn't work was then looking at the speedo head (about £200.00), when by chance the person at the local Peugeot spares told me that he supplies about one "interface" a week for the 2.1td. This cured mine. The failure may be caused by another component on other model types i.e. 1.9, 2.0 etc.

I've noticed on a few of the threads a certain number of disparaging remarks about what may be termed 'classic' cars.
Obviously, as a self-confessed fan of classics (and I do count the Marina amongst them), I'm just wondering how many of the people in the BR would like to run a classic. And if they actually managed it, what classic would it be?
Cheers guys and gals

Just put my Volvo 850 through an MOT and it passed with flying colours (hurray!)
Unfortunately, the Lambda light is now lit (it wasn't before).
I have informed my usual garage about the problem (they sub-contracted the MOT) and they said that they will look into it.
Any ideas what may have happened - is it serious? Should I still be driving it while it's investigated?
Many thanks for suggestions. Read more
Hi Gang - on re-reading this thread I've just realised my mistake, so apologies for the confusion.
The lambda warning light on my 940 came on and was diagnosed as an MAF sensor fault. It was this that was cleaned and replaced - NOT the lambda probe !
IIRC someone here kindly told me that the lambda warning light is really an engine management warning light which could indicated any one of a number of problems. In my case the fault codes indicated an MAF problem.
HELP NEEDED!
Ive ordered a pre-reg car from a dealer (not the Seat on another thread), and am financing through Motability Finance HP (not the leasing that Motability is known for).
The dealer has given me a fixed price for my trade in (Fiat Punto) and I have signed a contract showing this and all the other figures and a deposit of £500 paid. The dealer is being tortoise-slow and hasnt sent any paperwork off to the finance company as yet (3 weeks after it was first filled out and one week after the deposit was paid) but what I want to know is, if this deal doesnt happen until May, i am right in saying they arent allowed to offer me a lower price for my PX because of the delay??
The PX price was fixed at the end of March and i know its already dropped £200 in Glass guide for April and am worried that when they sort themselves out theyre going to want another £4-500 off me. Im sure they would prefer me to go away with my £500 deposit and buy a different car, but i want what ive ordered (its sat there, teasing me!) and want to know that I can hold them to this contract!
Any comments greatfully received.

No ive not clocked up much mileage at all, and its still in one piece (or was when I parked it earlier!)
Why the delay? Well i dont understand. Its Motability HP and I dont think theyve ever done one before, but I have and its not that hard. I reckon that they think of Motability customers as an inconvenience, to be honest.
My car was priced in March @ £6250 and the deal agreed with that price fixed. Its now well overvalued and I think theyre hoping that i'll get fed up waiting and want to walk away - the PX price was underwritten by a trader in March and it took some negotiating to get it agreed for April, but by May its going to lose them £400-500.
The car ive bought was ordered in for me (another long story) and so they havent sold it twice.
But in fact I want their car, and I want the agreed PX price. If I walk away i'm going to be £400-500 out of pocket cos the value of my px has dropped (grrrr Fiat) by that much.
Ive rang and left messages, and emailed - no replies yet - so i'm going there in the morning. Wish me luck!

Just seen a news item on TV which reported that a major survey has indicated that 5% of drivers are illegal with no licence, road tax or insurance. Apparently the general feeling of these people is that the resulting fines, if/when caught, are far less severe than the costs of complying with the rules. Crazy eh ?
To think that 1 in every 20 drivers are deliberately driving illegally is quite frightening. Read more
If there was some direct benefit in the form of revenue to the Treasury of doing any of this, I reckon it would be done overnight !
My Mercedes specialst insists that the QXR semi-synthetic is okay on a 1996 W140 S280 Mercedes Benz.
This seem to contradict what others have said. Your thoughts please.

According to the MB data sheet I have for this car, it should be OK with pretty much any 'SG' rated oil. They specify a 5W-40 for 'All Temperatures' and a 10W-40 for 'Above -20C'. I think you would be fine with QXR.
I really do feel
much better now about the prospects for my mum-in-law's N Reg. Punto Selecta which (as those who inhabit the techie forum may know) has been in and out of her local garage a number of times in recent weeks with the same auto-box problem.
The garage concerned has an advert in our local rag boldy boasting:
"Ultimate Sales & Service"
Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, MG, Vauxhall, VW, Fiat, Alfa Romeo Citroen & Volvo... SPECIALISTS.
It's nice to know her car's being dealt with by people who specialise in so few marques and hence really know the vehicles inside out. I'd hate to think how she'd have fared if she had taken the car to a mere 'generalist'! Read more
Apparently James Hunt once remarked that people watched F1 not to see the driving but the crashes. Is that a big part of the appeal of the IOM TT and the reason even basic safety improvements don't seem to be carried out ?

Sounds ok to me. I got 4 Goodyear Eagle F1s at £106 each in 215/45ZR17 91Y. Dunlop SP 9000s would have been £125 each. Bear in mind I was buying four at once.
