Im just wondering if someone could give me a little help....
I have a 306 XN - \'94 M reg!
When I drive over the slightest bump, there is a knocking sound which is driving me mad!!! I\'ve taken it to suspension & exhaust place, and they can\'t see any problems whatsoever.
I really don\'t want to pay the dealership a few hundred quid just to investigate the problem.
Ive noticed that if I am turning left... the knocking doens\'t happen. It does feel like its coming from the front of the car.
Any advice? Read more
The Problem is when I press the boot release button nothing happens, I've checked the switch and it seem's fine so I checked the motor upon checking it part of it was really hot so I disconnected it and took it out and if I put power to it the motor works. If I put it back in and connect it up nothing happens but part of it starts getting hot so I have to leave it disconnected. Has anyone had this problem before or could anyone give me some possible sollutions. Thanx in advance.

Can anyone help me? I am thinking about obtaining a new or fairly new car on PCP from one of the leasing companies. However I am a little worried about what their definition of fair wear and tear is - I do not wish to have to pay a large amount of money at the end of the period: I have two children and a 2 dogs none of whom have any respect for car interiors! Does anyone have any experience of how the average leasing company defines \"fair wear and tear\" and what, in reality, those definitions mean?
Many thanks

Many thanks.
I am not anti cyclist and have not just been annoyed by one, BUT, I often wonder why they are not compulsorily required to have at least 3rd party insurance? They are quite capable of causing as much death & destruction as you and I in our cars.
Also, why no contribution to our spiralling road costs? True, they cause little, if any, actual wear & tear to the surfaces but they still USE the facilities and occupy a significant space if everyone gives them the safety zone they like/need. Also, in many areas the only new road surfaces provided are for the sole benefit of cyclists - so why shouldn't they pay something?

Small point from a serious cyclist - I hold no brief for some of the idiots riding about at the present time.
The group of riders that I used to spend the day with once calculated that of the 17 riders present on this particular occasion between us we owned, taxed and insured 31 cars 2 LGvs
and one HGV. As it is not possible to ride and drive at the same moment in time we came to the conclusion we were entitled to a little road space as we were paying for it several times over.
Does anyone have any contacts for genuine VW parts cheaper than direct from main dealer or recommend good pattern parts. Main dealer has qouted £80 for new front discs and £80 for pads! Read more
Lots of people, including good friends of mine, rave about EBC brake pads and they also sell discs. EBC Greenstuff are apparently virtually dust free, which is nice if you're fussy about the appearance of your wheels.
See thread on Performance Brakes for contacts.

I am thinking of buying a new car through either Motor Provider or Micronet Showroom as I can save approx £2000 on main dealer prices. Can anyone who has had dealings whith either tell me what you thought of them. Read more
Micronet Showroom - Nottingham. Have had some problems with them, delivery very late, and incorrect car spec supplied. Up hill struggle to actually get refund. There was a message board on Google search engine relating to them, if I recall. Also a consumer article in The Birmingham Evening Mail referring to a customer who had problems buying a BMW x5 from them.
Could someone please tell me how easy is it to replace the front wheel bearings on a '92 Ford Escort LXi 1.4 ?
Do I need any special tools ?
Your comments will be appreciated,
Thanks. Read more
Thanks for the reply Pete,
There seems to be lots of Omega related threads here with some people loving them, others hating them. I am considering changing my car (new shape Mondeo) and like the idea of a bigger engined rear wheel drive automatic. I have seen Vauxhall main dealers offering 03 plate 2.2 CD models (with met paint and auto) with 4 miles on for 15k. This is, I gather, about 5k off list - seems a lot of car for the money, but then I realise the Signum is going to replace it soon.
Is it really a daft idea to even consider one of these cars at "nearly new"? Read more
£13,999 or even £15k, for a brand new car in that class?
If you want a new car and all the depreciation that goes with it
they are cracking good deals
I believe there to be a formula whereby you can calculate the mph per 1000rpm in any gear, provided that you know the gear and final drive ratios and the overall diameter of the tyres.
Does anybody know this calculation?
Purely as matter of nerdy type interest, I would like to check the speedo accuracy at M-Way speeds.
At the moment I tend to assume that 76-78mph is around a true 70, and wonder why most other are going so slow (except for the German cars of course). Read more
A505 between Baldock and Royston has these white rectangular blocks painted on the road, seemingly at random distances apart. Some only 300yds, some over half a mile, I guess these are to use with VASCAR?
While we're on the subject of markers at the side of the road (and I've seen the police measured mile ones, will try them next time) can anybody tell me what the reflective red and green diamonds I keep seeing on posts by the side of the road are? Red diamond or green diamond, about 6" high, about 5-6ft up a pole, on A-roads and motorways, all over the country.
A few years ago I bought a low mileage still-under-warranty 306. It wasn't long before I realised that it was losing brake fluid at an alarming rate. Unfortunately there were no visible leaks. It took me ages to persuade my local Peugeot dealer that the fluid must have been going into the brake servo. They finally agreed to investigate, and lo and behold......!

Just like you, I took my 1993 knocking 306 to the local garage for investigation and they couldn\'t find anything.
Later, I found that it was caused by wear in the vertical links connecting the anti-roll bar to the front subframe. With both front wheels in the air (to avoid twisting the anti-roll bar), you can test the link\'s ball joints for wear. I found there was no detectable wear if I twisted/turned the ball joints, but there was play if the link was pulled away from the anti-roll bar or the subframe. Replacing both links fixed the problem.
On the other hand, my 306 knocked on uneven ground but not when going over speed humps in a straight line. Which doesn\'t quite fit your description of not knocking when turning left!
