I tried to close my car up using the remote central locking fob and the driver's door wouldn't lock. I tried it a few times but I didn't have any joy. If I use the key, the central locking on all four doors works fine. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

The car is a Rover 620. Read more

Thanks Darcy, I tried to open it from the passenger door and the driver lock stayed down so it looks as if the motor's kaput.

Spoke to the parts department and they concurred with David, it's a common fault on an aging 600. About 45 notes for a new one. Incidentally, first thing to go wrong with the car in four years of ownership. Ironically, I was thinking of chopping it during September for a 75. Great Trade Centre in White City has a few to choose from.

Shouldn't be a problem to replace, fortunately I'm becoming a dab hand with removing the door trims. New door speakers and the glass slipped out of its guides once.

Cheers guys for your help.

Just back from a test drive of a new WRX. It had the prodrive kit which takes it to about 250bhp (a cheeky extra £1800 too). Must admit I was expecting it to feel quick but it just didn't. I suppose it's cos it grips so well there is no drama at all.
Excellent cross country car tho - if you needed to do a lot of miles on mixed roads, this is the fella you need. Very easy to drive fast.
I now need to decide if I want one. Don't think I can do it cos it's so bloody ugly! But I am tempted............

I tried one of these a couple of years ago in the estate (weekend) version, it was to small for the family car but the 2.0 5 pot goes like stink. I had it for 2 weeks and overtook a slow moving car when I had the wife and kids with me, I floored it and just took off, the wife said "F****** hel whats this"? The kids said whats "F****" etc. Very entertaining wouldnt mind the Brava 2.0 version for myself but cant afford.

Does anyone know if Peugeot ever produced a cabriolet version of the 205 with an automatic gearbox, either for their home market or - and more interestingly - for the UK market. I would love to find one! Read more

Roy - if I can add a bit to my earlier 'input' (my family has owned a total of 11 205s, 2 of them cabrios, but none auto): I think Dave W has the only feasible solution in suggesting putting an auto engine/box into a cabrio shell. You will have to choose between the CJ and CTi, but there is one point in your favour - auto 205s were made right up to the end (about 95N) because there was no replacement 106/306 auto available. Most CJs were white with blue denim seats and GR trim. CTis were mostly white/scarlet/black, trimmed as the GTi with black/red seats and alloy wheels etc. Either one is (to me) slightly odd with an auto-box, but whatever turns you on!

I have a Z3 3.0 and I damaged a sill ,so I went to BMW and ordered a new sill they checked carefully that is was the correct side etc. When it arrived I took it in its box to the paint shop and painted it ,then to the car only to find that the sill was not correct it was for a 1.8-1.9 roadster. The 2.8-3.0,3.2. have different sills and wings due to the wider track .To BMWs due they are changing the sill and painting and fitting at their expense .The chassis number alone does not tell whether it has small or large engine and the parts computor does not automatically flag the various options much to the dismay of the parts man.

Hope it wasn't a 1.8 engined version, My wife has one and It is rather sluggish.

boom boom !

Seriously though its not as fast as my VW Bora TDI 115.

crazed idiot

I was very sad to hear Christina Rees of the general synod on radio 4 this morning blandly agreeing with speed cameras...

I doubt very much she has done any research into traffic safety matters

I dont remember the bible saying we should accept poor road design, or poor traffic policing, or persecution by a small minority

I find bringing religion into this debate most offensive

Erm, no Brian, i wasn't infering to you, i was saying that you are right, someone [high up, i think] reckoned that 770 million cars would be on the road at the same time. Both you and i said, that there could be 70 million cars in the u.k.
Sorry for any confusion

Anyone heard of faults with hdi throttle control or faults that would cause the car to slow down?? Read more

Dave Bumfrey

When driving car monday pm (no problems all morning or previously), the car started losing power if for example you are driving along in 3rd gear 25mph and put your foot down it accelerates to 37-42mph and thenstarts to slow down and if the throttle is kept fully pressed slows down to13mph and will start to kangaroo. If at any time the throttle is totally released and re-applied the car accelerates again??? This could be potentially lethal especially on motorway/dual carriageways as encountered on monday.
Citreon say they have not heard of this before and seem to be having trouble locating the problem, the car was there for 2 hours and they said they were unable to locate the problem here is your car back, sorry we have no loan cars, this is the dealer we purchased the car from 1st March 2001. Anybody heard similar fault with Peugeot Hdi engines?? Read more

David Lacey

As I stated in my earlier posting reference Bosch EDC/Rover 620 problems back in '96.....

The dealer doesn't sound very switched on or helpful, even more so given the newness of the car.

David W, I agree, it seems even the good ol' reliable diesel engine has been taken over by electronics. Some could rightly view this as a backward step, perhaps.

Oh well, more work for us 'switched on' main dealers......

Going up town tonight for a couple of jars - a long, tiring and frustrating day at work. (Which is not going to get any better tommorrow)

I just love the idiots who drive cars with about four cycles tied on the back. With all these cycles wheels staggered they do a wonderful job of obscuring all rear lights. Regulations lay down the size and position of these lights only for them to be covered up by cycle wheels. It is even worse at night with rear light more or less totally covered and all that can be seen is a red glow. Also rear number plates cannot be read. I have seen at least a dozen of these idiots in the past fortnight, now if I can see them why do not the police see and stop and charge them because what they are doing is dangerous activity. A few hefty fines would soon put paid to these stupid people. Cycle carriers should be banned unless fitted with a proper tow board with regulation number plate and lights attached to the outside of the cycles and fitted with a proper trailer electrical connection. "Fixed penalty fine vs Trailerboard?"

Now thats a good idea, fill traffic cars with trailer boards for sale.

FPN or buy a trailerboard, together with a voucher for the electrics sorting at various local places. Now that is a money making exercise.

Hi,

Does anyone know where to get wiring diagrams for Vauxhall cars. The Haynes manuals are useful but don't contain the whole story.

I'm particularly after a 98 MY Omega wiring diagram that shows the sat nav system.

In anticipation .........

Michael

have you tried asking the sat nav manufacturer for a wiring diagram? No pesonal experience of these systems but would think they are self contained with minimal external wiring.
