  • Report: Peking to Paris, day seven 3 Jun 2013 (News)
In the Classics Division the lead has changed yet again, with Gerry Crown, aged 81, beating all the younger blood to re-take the lead in the Leyland P76. The Citroen DS was no match for the determined pace of the veteran Aussie in the big V8, who took minutes out of the Citroen on all three test-sections, ending the day two minutes ahead of its rival. Welding, grinding, banging, soldering, and all manner of running repairs are now noisily going on in a frenzy to catch the final remains of the fading light, with most of the rally now having set up camp for the night as fatigue and exhaustion from another day in the struggle to reach Paris finally takes over.
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day eight 5 Jun 2013 (News)
The needle-match at the front of the two Categories proved to be as competitive as ever, with the Time Trial of the day seeing the Citroen DS seeking revenge for yesterday’s drive by Gerry Crown in the Leyland P76, snatching back 20 seconds out of Gerry’s lead which is now less than two minutes. The two Russians in the Moskvitch are an impressive 10th, but they have Mercedes-Benzes, Jaguars, Mustangs, Porsches behind them… In the Vintageants, second placed Bruce and Ben Washington poured on the coal to stoke up enough grunt to stay second and hard on the heels of the leading Chevrolet of Phil Garratt, but third placed Bill Cleyndert and Mark van Hees in the Ford Model A raceabout set the best performance on the Time Trial, covering the ground in 17 minutes 08 seconds, no less than 19 seconds quicker than the Chevy.
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 10 6 Jun 2013 (News)
There were two Time Trials today and Gerry Crown dropped time on the first, having broken his rear shock absorber mountings, allowing the Citroen DS to prove quickest car and beat Gerry’s Leyland P76 by eight-seconds, but on the second, uphill, the big V8 had the low-down grunt to haul the big car up to the top in a storming best time of 9 minutes 56 seconds, the only car to get under the 11 minute barrier, the Citroen posting 11.23.
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 11 8 Jun 2013 (News)
Uureg Lake to Border Bob Sherrard's Citroen DS, which had been enjoying a spirited battle for the lead with Gerry Crown's Leyland P76 struck trouble today, and came into the camp tonight with its rear down to grass-height, the hydraulic suspension system has given up the fight.
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 15 11 Jun 2013 (News)
The good news is the Citroen DS is now going well – the crew were up on all night supervising a local workshop in order to re-start today, and they came into Omsk beaming that the car is now running fine, 'We are up for more fun in the coming days – we are back in the hunt,' said navigator Pete Washington.
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 17 14 Jun 2013 (News)
We spotted a fuming crew member of the Citroen DS having navigation problems driving the lift to the superb dinner tonight… never mind the lift buttons, the Citroen in the car park is showing signs of another hydraulic issue, this time the front is stuck in maximum height mode.
