  • Renault Zoe - Rear brake discs 8 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I've got a Zoe with around 25,000miles at under 2 years old. I heard a rubbing noise from the back brakes so took it into the dealer for them to have a look. They have diagnosed that both rear discs need replacing due to severe corrosion and scoring and quoted £480 for the work. They told me that it would not be covered under warranty as it's normal wear and tear and to be expected for a vehicle of that age(!).
  • jaguar xf 2011 facelift - brake pedal switch 1 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I had new EPB cables fitted for MOT recently now EPB fault warning on dash. took car back and been told it is the park brake switch at fault but they are reluctant to do it because its a major job apparently (steering column off etc.)  I've do some looking and it may not be that hard and switch appears to be only about £20 is this something I could change myself or is it a dealer job?
  • VW Polo 2006 - Passenger side rear and brake lights not working 7 Jan 2019 (Forum)

  • Renault Scenic 2005 1.9 diesel - Electronic ignition problems 14 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Just joined the forum, searched but cant find an answer. My renault has a push start electronic ignition. insert card, depress clutch or brake, push button to start. This morning it wouldnt start, seemed like the system couldnt recognise that the clutch or brake was depressed. I usually use the brake pedal as the clutch pedal sensor seems to have packed up.
  • Honda Accord - Honda Accord seized rear brake calipers 25 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Luckily you can get refurb ones for £80. Might highlight the need to strip and clean the brakes on these cars more often to spot damaged caliper seals before they sieze.
  • VW Golf MkV - How long should it take to replace brake callipers 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi Alan,   One of the front brake callipers on my MkV Golf has seized and I am quoted £700 to replace both front callipers but not the discs and pads with labour costs for 3.5 hours and of course they want to charge over £100 for plugging in the diagnostic tool even though the fault was proven to be the calliper by the RAC who by the way provided an excellent service.
  • Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost - Brake Fluid & Engine Flush 18 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I had my car in for it's 2nd service yesterday and although I have a service plan with Ford I was informed when I arrived by the garage that th evehicle needs an Engine Flush and also the brake fluid requires changing, this seemingly is Ford's recomendation.  Bearing in mind the car has done less than 11500 miles since new on 27th Feb2013. The cost for this work was nearly £65.

  • Toyota Carina E (1992) - Toyota Carina E - the brake pedal mystery 13 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I have a 1992 Carina E 2.0i petrol vehicle, and I note that when I have the front headlights turned off and press the brake pedal, the front light turns on (to dipped beam). With the lights are turned on, this does not happen. What may be the cause of this fault. In light of the heavy rain, I would consider this may have had an impact.

  • Peugeot 106 - help with rear brakes 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have replaced the shoes and cylinder on the passenger side as well as the bearing.  The brakes have been bled and drums are on but dont bind. The handbrake cable was re-connected and with the handbrake cable adjusted back up the handbrake is next to useless. I know the cable hasnt come undone becasuse the drum does show some resistance with the handbrake on but I dont know where I have gone wrong.
  • No Brake light - endorsable offence ? 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Dear All, I was recently stopped on a bright morning for having no brake light. I just had the light changed but for whatever reason it was not working at the time I was stopped. My initial thought was that I would only be slapped with a fine and a maybe a telling off, but to my suprise I was told it was an endorsable offence.

  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 TDCI Brake fluid dripping? 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
However, while doing this, I noticed a trickle of fluid coming down from the engine bay. This could only have been brake fluid. I've checked the fluid levels and they are right up to the filler cap. Should I be concerned? rgds tt
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1993 1.9DT - Brake caliper slides 2 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i recently replaced the pads on my 1993 405 GLDT and i noticed that one of the caliper slides has siezed. It won't budge. I fitted the pads and the brakes work fine but i need to get this fixed asap. My question is how? Is there a repair kit available and how do i fit it? Or will i need to replace the caliper mounting bracket and can this be bought seperatly from the caliper?
  • Volkswagen Bora (1999 - 2006) - 01 2.0 petrol - Brakes spongy. 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Spongy brakes on my mates bora, we will be pressure bleeding the system. He has spotted a bleed nipple on the end of the master cylinder, are there any other bleed points apart from the calipers? I assume this has to be bled in sequence with the rest of the car, my question is in what part of the bleeding sequence do we open the master cyl nipple?
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 98 1.3 1rear brake drum removal 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
According to the Haynes manual the rear brake drum should slide of the wheel studs once the wheel nuts have been undone and it rotates freely. However, on my car there is a flanged cap over the central hub nut which stops this happening. When I try to remove this with a hammer and screwdriver I just damage the flange rather than loosen the cap.
