  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.6 would a blowing exhaust cause??? 20 Jul 2008 (Forum)
hi, i am a real novice when it comes to cars. i have just changed oil & filter, air filter, re set gap on spark plugs, and checked HT leads for Arc-ing. car idles fine on rev counter and runs fine, however when idleing it appears to miss every 4-5 seconds (counter does not move), causing the whole car to vibrate, it also sounds like pop pop sound from the centre exhaust box, i noticed the other day that this seemed to be blowing, however it was only replaced in december.
  • Old petrol disposal? 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Appreciate outboards are a long way off topic but wondering if it's worth starting/attempting to run engine with this fuel? Believe it can lead to alls sorts of running problems! As a compromise i could put another 6 litres of fresh petrol into tank and give it a good mix! Any guidance appreciated Thanks Mark
  • Citroen C5 II (2008 - ) - HJ's Road Test 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Just been reading HJs road test of the new C5. The most disappointing thing abut the new car is that it is much heavier than the competition, leading to a reduction in around town performance and economy, whilst overall top speed and cruising economy are unchanged. This is a ridiculous state of affairs. We are facing ever increasing road congestion throughout the world, so it must be more important to improve urban consumption by way of reduced weight and increased efficiency, rather than a massage the figures for dubious extra urban figures which are impossible to achieve.
  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 95 2.0 ecotec - judder at low revs 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
hi, problem with judder at low revs especially when lifting foot off accelerator.Have done the usual ie,cleaned all breather pipes from rocker cover & crankcase, changed rocker cover gasket due to excess oil covering spark plugs & fitted new ht leads & plugs. No engine light coming on & drives really well at high speeds .Had the car 3 years now & it has 140k on it,fitted new idler control valve last year when experiencing erratic idling.Maybe its getting past its sell by date but its a workhorse any ideas would be greatly appreciated many thanks
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 2.0L petrol, 128 bhp, difficult starting 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Once started, it runs fine, also starts fine when engine warm. No fault codes showing when I ran it through diagnostic equipment at local garage. HT leads? Battery? - Don't want to to start replacing items at random before having half an idea what the cause might be! Any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers.
  • Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - E11 1.3 4E-FE cold starting problem 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Nice car, but it wouldnt start this morning (and didn't even seem like it was close to doing so) but started instantly when I got home from work (even though it was still v.cold!!) and was just after some ideas. I recently renewed the sparkplugs and HT leads and it runs great otherwise so I don't think its timing or ignition related? Do these cars have some sort of cold-start sensor? Thanks chaps. PS, no engine management lights are showing, and starter spins over nice and quick.
  • Focus 1.6 2002 Hesitant Starting 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
It seems to have been kept in storage for about 6 months before I bought it, if that helps. My first guesses would be plugs or H/T leads, but I'd welcome the opinion of someone who knows what they're talking about before I go randomly replacing bits. Thanks a lot (and thanks for the recommendation of a Focus!) drawde
  • Unable to charge flat battery 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Yesterday dear beloved daughter phoned - had left courtesy light on her sports car for two days and now vehicle refused to start. Obviously flat battery so round to hers with jump leads. Connected up and donor car running.....zonk... nothing when car ignition turned. Neither was there anything from horn or lights. Connected super duper Airflow battery Condition/Charger (as HJ recommended) and all I got was the 'power'on light and no light at 'compensating' So couldn't get any charge into battery.

  • Corsa 1.4 petrol engine cutting out 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone have any ideas about this? I used to have problems starting the car in damp weather, but I siliconed the leads and that seemed to solve it. Could this have affected the idle speed in some way?
  • How much is a taxi worth? 22 Apr 2007 (Forum)
They said they have to legally inform the buyer that it was once a taxi. I know that taxi tend to lead a hard life but some owners keep it in tip top condition to keep it on the road and also as a requirement from their operator. how much do you reckon it is worth? Mot is till end of this year
  • I Have A Question - Volume 172 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My question is that as both the TV and DVD have audio out phono connections which one should I use or does it make no difference. I would have to buy some long leads whichever and have seen 6 metre lengths with male phono connections which I presume would be what I need?. wemyss
  • Carpeted floor mats? 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I've got some cheap carpeted floor mats in my old banger right now, but whenever my feet are wet and I rub them onto the floor mat the water is going right through and making the carpet underneath the mat wet. I'm concerned that this might lead to rust in the floor or something. Now, I've been looking on ebay and would rather get carpeted floor mats than rubber floor mats, but I am not sure if this water leaking through issue is a symptom of all carpeted floor mats or if it is just the cheap ones that I have.
  • ford mondeo start up problems 23 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It can take up to 10 minutes before i am able to drive away. When i am driving the car seems kangaroo at any speed. I have changed leads, coil pack, plugs disconnected the egr valve and blocked hoses and the the fuel pressure valve. Nothing seems to work. I've just been told it's got a fault code 372 and the problem is with the exhaust pressure tranducer.
  • 1999 Astra alarm problems 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I can get round the problem by leaving a window slightly open - but Mrs B has a habit of forgetting to do this, leading to alarm blaring, angry neighbours etc etc. Could it have something to do with the pressure sensor being triggered inside the car? Is there anything I can do to ´desensitize´ it? Thanks in advance, barchettaman
  • EOS alternatives 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
SWMBO had an altercation with a little old lady at a roundabout which has ended in the little old lady admitting fault and SWMBO's 20 month old A2 being written off! The gap insurance looks a very good buy now! She wants an EOS but lead time is likely to be longer than the lengh of time she can hold on to the replacement car. She would like a convertioble and will want to specify her own colour and extras so will probably be new (I know it is stupid but someone has to do it and she doesn't give me any choice - if I want a reasonably quiet life).
  • Peugeot 306 fuel problems 1 Jul 2006 (Forum)

  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 97 GTi 2.0 8v poor performance and stalling. 7 Mar 2006 (Forum)
When it is left a while it will start but is still rough. Its not long had a service which included new plugs and leads`and the timing is correct. I have not long had the car. Im being told that it has a AAG engine and the code is 00513-G28. After testing it, the signal is out of tolerence. Basicly I have not a clue what could be causing this!!
  • Astra 1.4 8v having troubles starting fr 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The car seems to continually keep flooding from cold, its only when the car is bump started that it will go (then works fine and turns back on straight away when warm). I have changed the HT leads, its had a recent Lambda sensor, I swapped the plugs back to the old ones (only removed previously purely due to servicing, but they were working fine when removed, so dont think it could be the plugs or could it?)
  • Help Please- satnav 13 May 2005 (Forum)
It is completely standard out of the box and what I need to know is:- 1) what software do I need? 2) what GPS Receiver do I need? 3) Can I get a power lead to plug into my cigarette lighter to power the IPAQ when on the move? 4) Is there anything else I need to do/get before it will work? Sorry if these questions are a bit basic but I have never used any sat nav or an IPAQ before.
