New Ford Fiesta 1000 Ecoboost - Gear lever vibration at around 2500revs 25 Oct 2015 (Forum)
My new Fiesta 1000 Ecoboost has significant vibration felt through the gear lever when engine is passing through 2500 revs. Also when the "change up arrow" advises a gear shift at 2000revs the engine seems to labour from 1300 to 1800 revs in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear. Above 2000 revs it's fine with good acceleration. -
Nissan Almera - Terrible headlights 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I have them pointed as high as possible, yet they only light a small distance in front of me. Aiming them lower makes them even worse. They passed the MOT in March, so it shouldn't be a defective reflector or anything like that. Plus, the lights on my mum's (newer model) Almera are just as bad. My bulbs are the normal old-fashioned headlight type (usually called bulb 472) - any suggestions how to make them better? -
Leaking rear shocks - MOT Failure? 5 Sep 2005 (Forum)
On the list of faults they provided, one was that both rear shock absorbers needed replacing. The service lad said they were both 'leaking'. They quoted £157 plus vat. I didn't get this done because I knew my MOT was coming up so thought I'd wait until the MOT confirmed it. It passed the MOT. I assumed that leaking rear shocks is an MOT fail - or am I wrong? -
Shock absorbers 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It's out of warranty already but they gave me a discount voucher for it! Anyway, they report a back shock absorber is starting to weep. It can't be too bad because it passed the MOT last month! They're quoting £49.95 plus vat and fitting. My questions for those learned backroomers with experience of this sort of thing are: 1. Is this a reasonable price? 2. Would someone like ATS Euromaster be cheaper? -
Volkswagen Golf Plus 55' 34k - esp light on vw golf 18 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The esp light came on about a week ago on my 55 golf 34k. Since then I have taken it to VW for a diagnosis, they informed me that ‘abs control unit... -
Kia Pride EGR 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I presume the air filter would stay cleaner for longer, but I'm thinking less exhaust gas equals more air, more air equals leaner mixture, leaner mixture means lambda sensor makes mixture richer (goodness knows how), more air plus more fuel equals more performance? Would there be any down side? -
Test Drive Magazine - goodbye 5 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Fair play I say. There was a motoring pubication thread here a short time ago which remembered passed titles and I remember the demise of 'Buying Cars' - a mag that I enjoyed enormously at the time. I always likened Test Drive to that genre in style if not true spirit. What Car ? it is then ! Ian -
The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 26 28 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It was well placed to catch the unwary and several motorists approached it at what to me, were speeds well in excess of the limit. But they were not stopped. Is the present procedure that details are passed to the scribes at the fixed penalty office and the miscreants will receive tickets by post? If this is so I wonder why it needed three sturdy constables @ several florins per hour plus a jolly fine gratuity for 30 years service when the job could have been adequately performed by a couple of serfs on minmum groatage.bax -
CITROEN DS3 1.6 THP DSPORT PLUS - Buying an old low mileage car. Concerns? 13 May 2023 (Forum)
Hi all, Looking for advice. Come across a very low mileage 2013 Citroen DS3 Dsport. But I can't help but feel suspicious. It only has 31k miles on... -
First timer - nissan 25 Apr 2017 (Forum)
For example there's 2005 1.8 petrol sub 50k Almera's for circa £1.5k, whereas a Mazda 3 equivalent seems to be £2.5k plus. Similar type of differences are seen on primera versus avensis/mazda6 too. Looking for something automatic and petrol between 1.6 and 2.0litre that'll be half decent for city driving, plus useful on all the nsl's and DC's near Brighton, whilst also being suitable for drives to the likes of Windsor / Kent and occasional drives to Dorset and Manchester without being too painful when filling up. -
Volvo S40 - Missing documentation 18 Mar 2011 (Forum)
All this is getting very frustrating and looks as though I shall be having to cough up £25 for a duplicate V5c plus the cost of a 60 mile round journey to the nearest DLO. Do you think I would be be within my rights to claim these costs plus any increase in VED from the dealership if the original documents fail to turn up in time? -
Auction visit 3 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Just needed a good valet inside made £22,000 plus £1,600 fees - if a private buyer. Too much money. 2015 Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSi SE 5dr - 54,000 miles. Tidy car but had poorly matched o/s wing repaint. Made £5,500 plus fees. Good car for someone who’s not too fussy. 2017 VW Golf 1.6 TDi S 5dr 103,000 miles but tidy and with good history. -
17yr old male drivers......insurance......again!! 22 Apr 2010 (Forum)
My son will be 17 this summer and I would like to insure him on either his own car (looking at group1 or 2 cars) or as an additional driver on a slightly higher grouped car belonging to me. Quotes coming in at £2,050 for a group 1 car with pass plus succesfully completed. Is there any way of reducing this? According to my son, many kids just simply can't/don't bother with insurance.....so premiums go up.......so less people bother.....so premiums go up..... -
S-Max to go same way as Signum 23 Jul 2006 (Forum)
On the second hand market however, I would expect the S-Max to offer a lot of value for money. If buyers wanted to spend £20k plus on a Ford with some carrying capacity, surely they'd opt for the X type estate? -
Insurance: change car / add young driver 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I suspect not a lot, because we're insuring against what he might do to the rest of you out there ... 2. Will passing his test and doing Pass Plus make much difference to the cost of adding son? If it will, it's worth waiting to see how he gets without additional practice. If it won't, we might as well bite the bullet and do it sooner rather than later. 3. -
Ford C-MAX 1.6 Petrol (57) 2008 - Minor exhaust leak Flexi Pipe 27 May 2019 (Forum)
Hi all, I recently took the C Max 1.6 Petrol 57 plate for it's MOT and it passed but had an advisory for a minor leak on the exhaust flexi pipe. I understand that the Manifold, Cat and Flexi are one unit and are expensive to replace. I have found a repair pipe on ebay that looks like a good alternative to replacing the whole lot as it is only around £50 compared to the £500 plus to replace the lot. ebay item number: 172838029760. -
Honda Accord Tourer - Honda MARIS system - anybody used it? 8 Nov 2018 (Forum)
I need to get some guidance on changing headlamp units from dip left to dip right as required to pass the French MOT next march. I have the units as original parts from Coxes Honda in the UK. By guidance I mean mostly the removal and replacement of the front bumper/grille, as there is rather a lot of it and a lot of fasteners, plus parking sensors, headlamp washers, fog light wiring etc. -
any - Damage - to claim or not 20 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Does he report to his insurer and hopefully after getting details - pass them on to them to sort. As yet the Landlady hasn't given any or much info. said she would have to ask the Landlord first but he's not around. I would have thought to get their property insurance details? -

CLK 320 - four year report 6 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Apart from tyres and brakes the pse pump went which was around £600 and the roof mechanism failed....£1000 plus at the main dealers....£100 at indie who replaced a part. Passed its mot this morning with advisories on tyres. I've done 10k a year on average and have clocked up 140k. I could be lucky and get £3k in exchange if I wanted to swap.
