  • Toyota Aygo - Aygo semi-auto transmission problem 7 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Last Friday, after having made a quick journey and stopping the car for about 20 minutes, I failed to fire it up again despite turning the key (first time this has happened). The brake which must be pushed down to start the car had frozen; although, I was able to change the gears to put the car into drive and reverse. A local garage diagnosed it as a "gearbox problem" and said with automatic cars the gearbox cannot be repaired, just replaced.
  • Ford Fiesta Van - Accident - whose at fault legally ? 10 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Looked right again and an Astra  does an emergency stop and comes to a halt ....me felt slightly bemused as there was plenty of space for him to pass by but he probably thought I hadn't seen him. I had and my foot was on the brake when he came to a stop when i did another check to the right.  Then disaster..a few seconds after witnessing the emergency stop  a Mercedes  turns right into the junction (i was trying to get out of)  at speed and without stopping  and clips the astra's rear bumper against both  his offside doors.
  • What used car? 4 May 2014 (Forum)
So far, I've had a 1.25 Fiesta (bombed out on its MOT due to rust), a 1.4 206 (blowout on the M5 shot the brakes all to hell) and my current 1.0 Picanto, which is great, but the missus loves it far more than I do, so she gets that one. I'm tempted by a Micra 1.4 Sport, which seems to have a decent balance of economy and speed.
  • Volkswagen Golf VI - Air Conditioning Compressor Bolt Sheared 70k Miles 17 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I'm perfectly reasonable and obviously put my trust in them that this is a genuine issue that only a replacement of the unit can rectify but I am wavering between its just bad luck and its a kind offer to this sort of thing shouldn't really happen in 70,000 miles of mainly motorway driving. It wouldn't be so bad but this is on top of brake pads and other smaller items that have been advised, although I could probably start using the independents for this work. I'm guessing this is just one of those things and I don't really have any grounds to argue otherwise, but any thoughts would be much appreciated.
  • Rover 45 - 2003 Rover 45 - Engine overheated, oil in coolant 11 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, A couple of weeks ago my oil light kept coming on when I braked hard. I checked the oil and it was very low, none there. I topped it up. Then before a big journey I checked it again and it was very low again, topped up. On motorway journey after 100 miles steam was coming from the engine.
  • Replacing 2002 Mondeo - Still Looking 24 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I had expected it to be nippy as it had the same 1.8 engine as my old Mondeo in a smaller car. Felt a bit sluggish though. Brakes felt heavy.  Only drum at the rear.  The steering felt a bit heavy.   I'm still considering an Octavia 1.4 TSE when I can find one to test drive but I'm a bit concerned by various reports of camchain issues.
  • Chrysler Voyager - Yet another Chrysler SKIM issue? 26 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The worst part is that the car has actually cut out twice whilst driving and refused to start for up to an hour afterwards. This was quite scary, as the power steering and brakes both stopped working when the engine died. Luckily both happened at slow speeds and I was able to get the car to relatively safe (-ish) positions. I regularly carry my three children in the car, and this is unnacceptable as I don't feel safe in the car.
  • Suzuki SX4 - Emission Warning Light. 12 Dec 2012 (Forum)
The light came on again recently and I took it in to be reset as I had noticed that the earthing cable from the front of the engine to the body had corroded through completely and I wanted this replaced. I suspect the cable was damaged when a new body part was fitted after someone bumped me when I braked and they didn't. The vehicle now runs normally with the light out. When the dealer ran the diagnostics the fault showed a catalytic converter problem, but I am sure this code could mean expensive part replacements that may not actually fix the reported problem.
  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - Loosing power, noisy engine 21 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The condition may also result in the camshaft turning in a non-uniform fashion, which could lead to the failure of the vacuum pump drive, and a reduction in braking assistance. Launch Date: 23 June 2004 My vin number is not listed. It is a 2004 1.5s first registered june 2004. Could this be the cause? and if it is although my vin number is not on the recall list can i still get them to fix this free?
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 02 1.4 Intermittent Juddering & Severe Power Loss 15 Sep 2012 (Forum)

  • Mazda 6 TS2 petrol - Mazda 6 intermittent rubbing sound front 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Test drove it and it was ok but within a week it has started making a sort of rubbing/grinding noise which sounds like it is coming from the offside front wheel. It almost feels as if the brakes are rubbing but had them changed and it still does it but it doesnt do it all of the time, does it mostly when at about 40mph and when going round a slight bend. sounds like a throbbing sort of noise.
  • Renault Espace (2002 - ) - 05 2.2 EGR, loss of power, management light, oil l 23 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I have booked the car in at a different garage (one with a lot of experience with diesel engines) for Monday but wondered if anyone could add to the list of things I will ask them to look at below:- Clean EGR valve and pipework as required (possibley replace) Oil and filter change to fully synthetic Check breather pipes (top near injectors) Check turbo, bearings seals etc. Check turbo hoses Check inlet manifold Check and replace brake light switch and reset Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Cheers
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Car will not start, Help please! 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
The yellow car light with a spanner in is showing in the dash when turned to position 2. When pressing the brake and accelerator to get the faut code I get two codes. 0560 - low system voltage input, and 2108 - something to do with the ABS. (Don't think that would stop the car starting.) Also the central locking no longer works.
  • Electric car technology 21 Feb 2012 (Forum)
That would be easy to do in public car-parks. As well as the motor feeding power back into the battery on downhill stretches and when braking, the shock absorbers will have coils around them to generated power, much like those torches that you shake back and forth.   I remember the dirt roads in Rhodesia and Zambia that had laterite surfaces.
  • Vauxhall Corsa Life Automatic 2002 - Dash Display disappears and then the car stops 18 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Also, the dash display will occasionally drop out whilst driving and the speedometer and rev count needles will fall to 0 and the hand brake light will come on - 20 seconds later then they will rall eturn to normal.  The AA came to look and said it was caused by a hardware error with the aircon and the message was deleted and I was told to not use the aircon and it should be fine.
  • Citroen Picasso - Nightmare with repair costs/engine 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Car only done 40,000 miles and always been totally reliable. Passed MOT flying colours other than recommended new disc pads/brakes. Booked in for that the next week - prior to this the car flashed up "Engine Fault" and petered out. Top loaded into garage (have used before and it is the main dealer for Citroen in Surrey so normally v. reliable) ; looked at and "repaired" with a new starter coil.
  • VW Golf MK5 GT TDI - 55 PLATE - ABS/ESP Light Displayed on VW Mk5 29 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have contacted VW UK Customer services and they are not willing to assist due to the age and mileage of my vehicle. I am thinking its the "The Famous Brake Pressure Sensor ABS Fault" Anyone got any ideas of a solution. I am unable to take my car back to the above garage as its 150 miles away from where i live. Regards
  • Winter driving advice 27 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hope this helps, remember, at least 3mm of tread, good friction tyres marked M&S, ESP on(if you have it), keep your distance, plan driving to avoid sudden braking. Drive safely
  • Audi A3 - Audi A3 1.8T AGU violent judder/lurch under accele 22 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Its hard to explain but it every so often when I accelerate hard from a slow speed the car violently jerks, almost as if I had jabbed the brakes. It feels like the car is trying to stall but then picks itself up and is fine for a while, it also seems to do it when I am only just touching the accelerator at slow speed. It isn't a continous jerk when accelerating hard, just one big sort of "lurch" but when only slightly accelerating it carries on for longer until I accelerate a bit more or change gear.
  • DRLs 24 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The wet car can also reflect street lights, especially so when the car colour is dark. When turning out from a side road I’ve once or twice had to brake sharply when I realised that a dark coloured car with sidelights only was approaching fast and close. P.S. Can I suggest that Shaun the Sheep be nominated as new Minister for Transport ?
