Vauxhall Corsa B - Low Compression + Running Terrible 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Checked throttle position sensor using Opcom and all seems well there Last summer I serviced it... fuel, oil, air filters, spark plugs, new oil & brake pads Changed HT leads So I ran an compression test the other day and got the following results in bar: 1 -> 5.9 2 -> 6.1 3 -> 6.2 4 -> 6.0 According to the manual the compression ratio is 10.0:1 so seemigly you multiply by 1.38 to get your ideal compression ratio which would be 13.8? -
Vauxhall Vectra B Dti 16V LS (Xreg 2000) - Vectra B Dti Xreg No turbo when cold, until warm 25 May 2012 (Forum)
New to the forum. Had my vectra for 4 years. No problems. Loads of pull. Brakes always been poor. Most recently, a sever lack of power when cold. Starts fine, no smoke, no noises bangs or rattles. On all accounts, the car is smooth and quiet. Just when cold it won't rev and takes an age to get moving until warmed up. -
any - 'copycat' fuel economy register 16 Apr 2012 (Forum)
So you end up with 3 numbers: Fuel economy at 50 mph: X mpg Fuel economy at 75 mph: Y mpg fuel consumption at cold start: Z gallons The final figure, Z, is scaled and then combined with X and Y to give a combined figure. This gets rid of the problem of accelerating and braking pattern which are very subjective and totally meaningless. It also does not require a dyno. Anyone have any suggestions for tyest regimes? -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Noise like wheel bearing / CV joint 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My MOT test is due and a menacing noise has appeared, just 2 days ago, Under acceleration no noise Under braking no noise When freewheeling - in gear or not in gear, engine on or engine off, I get a grinding noise from up front like a bearing noise At very slow speed less than 1 mph I can sometiimes make the car go clunk, clunk, clunk as I move very slowly with the wheel turned. -
Megane Sport Coupe 16V 1.6 - Revs Limited Loss of power 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Basically, when the engine is warm and I accelerate hard, the car sort of loses power (feels as if i've dropped my foot off the accelerator and the brake is being applied slightly). I've noticed that it only really happens at high-ish revs, for example if I accelerate hard it will lose power at around 3k revs in pretty much every gear. I first noticed it when on the motorway, I would try to accelerate in fifth and it would just lose power. -
Mazda 6 - Gear trouble and leaking gearbox 10 Nov 2011 (Forum)
action=view¤t=P1000644.jpg">http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g136/mikej2005/P1000644.jpg Same shot from further back - looking at back of passenger glovebox : http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g136/mikej2005/P1000645.jpg These are the two fluids collected - the brown liquid was dripping fairly quickly, but has since slowed : http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g136/mikej2005/P1000646.jpg Any ideas ? The combined (I presume) brake and clutch fluid reservoir is just under the max mark so no obvious loss of clutch fluid so far. Could leaking gear oil cause problems in selecting gears and what could cause gear oil to leak - a dodgy seal/gasket or anything more serious ? -
Nissan Qashqai - Nissan Qashqai power failure when driving 11 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I tried to open the windows to manually signal that something was wrong, but these wouldn't work either. Luckily I managed to brake and pull over without a major accident. Needless to say if I was on a motorway, it would have been another story. I had my baby in the car and was quite shaken up by what happened. All through this time the radio was still working. -
Am I just getting old and grumpy 27 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Transit van pulls out in front of me, i.e. turning left onto the main road, he causes me to brake/ slow down, even though the road behind me was empty, then about a 1/4 mile later turns in left again, bringing me almost to a standstill. No signs of any cognetive function, just drive mindlessly. -
All vehicles and all drivers - When is a speed limit not a speed limit? 24 May 2011 (Forum)
When I took an advanced driving course many years ago the advice then, was to "flash" the brake lights to alert the following car that they are driving too close, and obviously to pull over and let the real idiots go by, but I am not so sure that flashing the reds would be taken too kindly by some of the mean-minded, selfish, out of control drivers displaying their lack of driving skills/finesse. -
BMW 535i - Family MPV - but which to sell? 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
warning every start-up (I left it with a good independent garage (ex-BMW/VAG) who cleared the EPC code and fitted a new brake switch but this didn't solve the problem - driving perfectly well though). I've read the MkIV Golf isn't so reliable and I guess I'm concerned things are going to start going wrong. Against that the Beemer is a bit longer in the tooth (94K done, regularly serviced) but then again, all the depreciation is out of the car. -
Peugot 106 1999 modle - Dodgy car dealer or bad luck? 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
We bought my son a car last week from a "part time" car dealer - 600 quid, ran ok on test drive and seemed ok for the money. Needs some new tyres & brake pads which we knew about however, in the week since we bought it, the radiator failed, we took that on the chin so to speak and its been fixed, then one of the rear light clusters failed as there's water in there. -
Garages today...afraid to get their hands dirty? 8 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Or is it the case that the majority of garages nowadays are unable or unwilling to deal with basic mechanical problems and are only capable or willing to change brakes and tyres and fiddle with computers? P.S I realise that this sounds like a bit of an "In my day" rant, but I'm only 24! -
No CCTV footage and driver denying liability :( 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I was in the front passenger seat travelling in the left hand lane of a busy road when a driver travelling in the middle lane suddenly pulled across us into the left hand lane. How my partner managed to brake just short of impact I'll never know, but he did, with about a cm to spare. The other driver proceeded to verbally abuse us, then jumped out of his car and tried to get my partner to get out of the car. -

Suzuki Ignis Sport - V-belt on 6th year service 21 Mar 2010 (Forum)
There is also something called "element" (£17) on the Suzuki Job list but I have no idea what it is. The rest are brake fluid, oil, etc. They explained to me that the V-belt rarely snaps and that they can inspect it instead, saving me money. Is this true about the V-belt? (should I not worry about them NOT replacing it) I was also concerned about the timing belt but they told me that Suzuki Ignis sport has a chain system (not timing belt - sorry for not using proper terminology, I know little about mechanics...). -
Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 1999 How do you remove the oil cap? 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
While I'm here, I may as well ask another question that anyone may be able to help me on - The central locking on my driver side doesn't work currently when unlocking the car (It works fine locking it). The lock doesn;t want to turn round when I try to turn the key, and I'm frightened I will brake the key in the lock if I force it any further, so I have to open the car using the passenger side. Someone has said it sounds like someone has tried to pick the lock and damaged it somehow. Has anyone idea how much it would approximately cost to get it fixed, or even be able to explain what the problem is? -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 99 2.0 My Pug Runs like a Burst couch! 16 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Had the machine on it and it gave out quite a few fault codes P0121,P0221(mechanic said not to worry bout these as they are not the issue) P1138 fuel pressure regulater-P0401 Egr Valve circuit-P0335 rpm sensor-P0571 Brake switch circuit-and P1537 UNDOCUMENTED CODE...... the mechanic advised that the undocumented code or the Egr valve circuit would prob be the problem.....I have checked all the hoses going to the turbo (as i was told to do) for cracks...they look ok! -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 05 3.0 Poor running and rough gearchange 3 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Other symptoms I've noticed are: -the engine never seems to go into overrun (according to the computer display), even on long downhills with no throttle input from me -the creep on the autobox is so strong when cold, that I can barely hold the car back on the brakes As above, it's a C5 3.0 V6 petrol (35k miles) with the Aisin AM6 gearbox, a.k.a TF80SC, as also used by Ford, Volvo, Vauxhall etc. I know the gearbox should be very smooth, as I've driven other cars with this box and they were fine. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.6 EPC / Exhaust System Light - At wits end 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
The car seems to drive Ok, but when the EPC light comes on I have to stop and restart the engine to get it out of "Get me home mode"... I've also read the post about the brake light sensor. I would take this to a small independent, but a couple of months ago the lights came on as I was passing the authorised dealer - so I took it in there and the ecu fault indicated the throttle position sensor to blame. -
Renault Twingo (1995 - 2005) - 94 1.3 Wanted : Cross over Break-Linkage !!! 6 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Any Clues for a good general UK-Car-forum ??? maybe someone knows a small bolt on version of such a "brake linkage cross shaft" or whatever the right word for the thing is .... I'm sure much of anyone's prices for selling the part would be for time taken to remove it.... Sincerely Sascha Smile Sorry for my rusty old school english
