Renault Clio 1.4i 16v 2001 - Stalling at junctions, rough idle, cut out 30 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Research indicated that this might be due to a vacuum leak so with the engine running I sprayed carb cleaner on the map sensor and servo vacuum hose connections and wiggled them. To my delight I discovered the brake servo hose connection was leaking. An O ring and a bit of silicone sealant and all is well. I couldnt be happier and I hope my experience helps some other poor sod with clio headaches. -
First speeding fine 13 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Am I annoyed? Yes, very. I made that clear at the time. Apparently I'm meant to slam on the brakes, judder from 60 down to 30 within 4 yards despite the road being empty or something. On the whole, 3 points for over 10 years of driving? Could be worse. *waits for sarky remark from unthrottled* -
Mitsubishi Colt 3-door 56 plate, 87K miles - Please help me diagnose this gear changing problem 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Symptoms are as follows: > Very difficult to put in gear > The clutch pedal is stiff towards the end of its stroke. > The clutch and brake fluid is a shared resevoir and this is at a normal level. > Pumping the clutch pedal multiple times makes no difference to whether it will go in gear. > The car goes into gear without issue when the engine isn't started. -
Audi A4 TDI Quattro DSG - Hill Starts in an Auto - what am I doing wrong? 22 Oct 2013 (Forum)
It's an A4 177 TDi quattro with DSG, and as I started to move off when the traffic allowed, as i switched my right foot from brake to accelarator you could hear a small crunch from the automatic gearbox. I've never noticed this before, but having said that I don't recall having to do any "steep" type hillstarts since I purchased the car 6 months ago. -
Ford Focus 55 2.0 Titanium - Ford Focus 55 2.0 dropping from 17" to 16" wheels 20 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Would I need to tell my insurance company since 205/55/16 is an option on the sticker in the door? 3. Would the smaller wheels be ok for my brake discs on the 2.0? Thanks for your help! -
Peugeot 806 - Peugeot 806 Running Problems 7 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I changed the fuel pump and if anything it is slightly worse, it now cuts out as well when you take your foot of the accelarator and you start braking. If I take the wires off of the common rail pressure sensor, it will drive without cutting out and it doesn't run on when you switch it off, but it still has the light on and still won't rev past 3000rpm and it runs very rough. -
Volvo V 60 - Flat Battery 29 May 2013 (Forum)
I have a two year old V60. It was parked late afternoon, engine switched off, electric park brake applied. All the doors/windows were closed. I did not lock the car....but did remove the key! TWO mornings later (i.e 36 hours) I came to start it but the battery was flat. -
Mercedes - MOT Test 13 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Anyway it doesn't end there , I get my mechanic to do the job and in his opinion the ball joint wasn't too bad , slight movement but not a fail ( but that was his opinion ) so he replaced the ball joint and brake pads . I took the car back in for a re-test today and was asked for the keys so he could check the mileage . I watched ( the owner of the garage ) go out to my car , lean in and get a mileage reading and come back into the office . -
Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V (2006) - Intermittent cutting out whilst driving - 22 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Hi All, My 2006 Skoda Fabia seems to have developed an intermittent technical fault that I hope someone might be able to advise on: On a couple of occasions over the past month or so, the car has spontaneously (and completely) cut out whilst driving (approx 30-40mph) - when this happens my power steering and brakes fail. On both occasions, I managed to slow the car using the handbrake and quickly turned the ignition key (whilst still driving) to get the car back into life again - luckily on both occasions I managed not to have an accident...... -
peugeot 306 1.9 dt - differential/gearbox or shaft 28 Jun 2012 (Forum)
hello all,i have a wobble belived to be front end along with a rubbing grinding noise (ie metal on metal) should start by saying its had new bottom ball joints, new shafts both sides although very slight play in one cv as fitted a few months ago, new track rod ends, new bearings in both hubs and all bushes were changed on arms about a year ago with no play apon checking after reading many posts saying drive shafts (not possible) cvs have been checked no noises at all on full lock so have had the car in the air running and in gear anyone who is going to do this safety first (dont want to get run over by your own car) and in turn have stopped one wheel allowing other to spin at speed doesnt matter what side i stop noise is there along with a wobble that can be felt throughout the car which says its not drive shafts so i belive it could be gearbox or diff as doesnt matter on speed what gear acc or braking if your moving it wobbles can any one back up my thoughts as dont want to start pulling it apart to spend more money and not fix the problem! if anyone can shed some light on this would be great :-( -
Mitsubishi ASX - Head or Heart. Diesel or petrol 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)
This is making no allowance for servicing being more frequent and expensive on the diesel and the extra weight causing more wear to tyres, brakes etc. I think I am convincing myself but just want to be reassured by someone who bought one and is happy with it. \i am going to test drive one buttest drives don't recreate real world experiences. -
Honda Happiness 30 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I wanted an oil and timing belt change so initially booked it in to an independent but then came across Honda Happiness. This scheme enabled me to get the timing belt changed and a service (including oil, filters, brakes adjusted, coolant changed, sticking tailgate lock sorted and about 30 other items checked) for £200 all in at a Honda main dealer. And Mr Happiness himself gleefully told me that it was over 5 hours of labour and what a good deal it was. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 Encore S Reg - Ford Fiesta Knocking from front, noise whilst driv 15 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Has anyone got any ideas? The car does seem to drive nicely, Ive noticed no uneven tread on the tyres. Brakes are nice and not spongey. Car pulls off nicely and there doesnt seem to be any gearbox problems. -
Ford Focus 1.6 lx - Car on driveway since Sept 21 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Today I tried to reverse it down the drive a touch and into a position more suitable for a good clean-out and the thing wouldn't budge. It all starts up ok, so I assume that there is some issue with the brakes being 'stuck'. Does anyone have any advice as to the best course of action, ideally one that wouldn't cost as much as I am likely to get for the car (81.3k miles). I know this is pretty much a 'how long is a piece of string' type question, but any advice would be most appreciated. -
BMW 2004 - Car with mileage clocked - legal advise needed 25 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I need advise from legal perspective regards the following: The car has costed me about 4200 GBP - I bought the car for 3700 GBP and have spent on brake servo/master cylinder problem. Since the mileage is clocked to almost half I haven't got any offer above 3000 GBP (loss of about 1.5K) I went back to the seller the very same day I bought the car (I was prompted by a copied BMW garage service receipt with the 'milage' field blanked out). -
any - 80 mph limit on motorways 20 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I read HJ's article on this siteabout the proposed increase in the motorway speed limit and Brake (the anti motoring charity) saying it will lead to more deaths etc etc. When i am on the motorwayhere in West wales(M4) doing a true 70mph i am still being overtaken by lots of cars, many of whom are doing approaching 90mph and the odd lunatic having fun at the ton! -
Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI 116K - Deady Battery 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I probably already know the answer but having just spent money on this car I'm reluctant to fork out again, it's starting to become a bit of a habbit. It's just been in the garage for new bottom pulley and some work on the brakes. When I got the car back the clock was flashing... thought nothng of it. used it for a couple of short trips and battery dead - jump started ok - charged battery for about 3-4 hours. Used car yesterday about 70 miles stop/start about half a dozen times. -
Suzuki Wagon R+ 1.2 - Vibration under load/misfire 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It smooths out above 60. The important bit is that the vibration completely goes away under engine braking and it disappears progressively as you decrease the load on the engine. Ive also noticed that the engine note sounds a bit off, like its misfiring abit. It doesnt seem down on power but it sometimes doesnt fire up quickly, although other times it does. -
Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - 05 2.0 Information on rear suspension noise 11 Jan 2011 (Forum)
What stars of as an annoying squeak from the rear (and is tricky to pin down where it comes from) was a worn Arm Control part #C2S 50863 fitted to off side noise gone. 6 months later other side started to squeak so I ignored it and it eventually went away, but later turned to a knocking sound bought another Arm Control (even got 10% discount) approx £45.00 + vat with discount, fitted noise gone. There is also a common problem when reversing and you touch the brakes, the noise is what you would describe as the pads sticking on (only heard when reversing) it turns out to be a bush in rear suspension arm part #C2S 46380 approx £4 not yet fitted them I will confirm if it sorts the problem at a later date. -
Peugeot 306 Hdi - Advise needed on diagnostic results 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
He told me there were a few problems. 1st ill quickly explain the symptoms. Sluggish when turning over. Engine revs drop when braking until pedal is lifted. Engine 'over run' a few times when ignition is turned off (this is what set the management light off) So there was a crank sensor fault. He then tested the battery and told me this was shot pulling only 200amps.
