Traction Control - best way to use? 23 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I seem to remember reading here that the best way to stop an ABS equipped car in an emergency was to stand on the brake pedal and let the ABS do its stuff. By the same token, how should one drive one's traction control-equipped car in slippery conditions? Floor it and let the TC do its stuff? Pussy-foot around and ease off the gas if the TC dash light comes on? -
Surprise! 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
not sure what it was, which is not like me...) again, it was STAGGERING the number of people who didn't realise he was on their rear bumper even though blues and twos(with all the variations sirens have these days) were running: one or two people's immediate reaction when they DID see him was to hit the brakes! Talk about switch on mental cruise control disengage brain..... -- Tim{P} -
Renault Laguna dCi clutch sticking down 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
You would, of course, expect the car to be declutched while the pedal is down but it isn't, and so it's quite frightening when it happens as he has to get hard on the brake. The clutch can be pulled up again with the toe of his shoe, and appears to work fine after that. The garage cannot replicate the fault but have bled the clutch which has made no difference. Has anyone encountered this problem before and is replacing the master cylinder the only option? -
Yaris 1.0 Petrol Engine Cut out 13 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi guys, One of my friend's car is cutting out during; engine braking, down shifting gear when approaching traffic lights, pulling out of junction. When the problem occurs, the engine light does not come on at all. The indicator light flashes a few times, and other dashboard lights come on. -
92 Honda Prelude ABS light 1 May 2007 (Forum)
My ABS light comes on on my Prelude when i apply the brake at the first corner after start-up. I have previously posted but been advised to take out the ABS light. I dont really want to do that and have been advised it could be a dirty speed sensor. The car is due an MOT so i have to get front tyres for it tomorrow. -
What really REALLY annoys me......! 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
A few hundred yards down the road you come up to a yellow Gatso camera, you see it and lift imperceptably to get down to 70ish when the pink fluffy dice ahead in the Honda/Volvo slows down abruptly due to some Pavlovian response to about 60 mph, causing you to have to have to brake needlessly, overtake then get overtaken again and so on down the whole pink fluffy dice road...................................makes me maaaad!!!! {Please don't try evading the swearfilter, or next time I might just delete everything rather than edit - DD} -
Peugeot 406 P 2L 2002 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Wonder if anybody has had this problem. I can hear water sloshing about in the car when i accelerate or brake. It seems to come from the cabin. No water in any of the doors. Water has considerable inertia so appears to be large volume. A body specialist advisd me to remove the drain plugs in the sills, but having looked there aren't any?? -
Impressive claims for economy - BMW 1 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
From What Car: "BMW overhauls its 1 Series range this March ............ Tyres with lower rolling resistance, six-speed gearboxes, regenerative brakes and new valve and injection technology help to improve performance and efficiency across the range. The 118i petrol in particular benefits from substantial improvements, a 0-62mph time of 8.8sec bettering its predecessor by 0.6sec. -
I turned down a free 91 230 TE ... 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Offered to me for nothing, but my plate is quite full. The only known issues were that it need new rear brake shoes (she said) and it was running smoky. No idea how much oil it was burning - but otherwise good in/out I was told. Was I a fool? Could I have sorted all this for reasonable money and be riding around in a near-free bullet proof motor, or I did I turn down a money pit? -
advice wanted-306 hdi diagnostic results 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The diagnostic light on my 306 hdi (2001) came on so i took it in for a diagnistic reading. This showed up 3 faults which read: brake pedal switch (no problem there-probably a light bulb out knowing puegeot electrics) low oil pressure and 2 out of 4 injectors not spraying correctly. I suspected the injectors to be a problem a while ago becasue there is a ticking noise under load from the engine at 3200rpm. -
Mondeo TD MKII Turbo Change 14 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My TD estate 209k has just failed its mot on: Emissions (tester only did a visual as it failed on other things and I think he only used it as an excuse to avoid breaking the cambelt) Corroded front to back brake pipes Leaking power steering. I know the rack is going to be a pig to get out if its not just a fluid pipe. I know the fuel tank might have to be dropped to do the pipes. I paid £750 for it in June and was hoping to get a bit more life out of it, but I have found a saloon Mondeo TD MOTd to 9/07 with 90k with a noisy turbo. -
£1.5k, A4 or 323? 12 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I like the looks of the Mazda, but I have to admit, the Audi interior is a good one...both are clean, tidy cars from what we saw, and have what he called critical conditioning (ac). He's not a racer, and likes the way the both drive, though he reckons the Audi's brakes are TOO sharp (??)...while the Mazda's steering is a bit light... So which would you choose? -
Insurance claim..... 9 Apr 2006 (Forum)
My son, travelling on his motorbike with a friend riding behind him (also on his own bike), pulled into the middle lane of motorway to let cars on the slip road easier access. Friend did the same but didn't notice that my son had eased of the accelerator. He braked hard to avoid colliding into the back & as a result dropped his bike resulting in a couple of broken bones in his foot. Although police (they were passing) said no case for my son to answer the rider of the other bike is now saying that he is going to claim against my son for damage to his bike and leathers calining that my son was negligent in that he didn't make allowances for the person travelling behind him!!! -
MPG!! - Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S diesel 4 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The company state 54mpg urban; 72mpg extra urban and 64mpg combined but I can manage only 53.7mpg combined. I drive 10m to work, largely uninterrupted, on rural roads and rarely need to use the brakes. My last car was an Alfa 147 with which I obtained 33 mpg over 3 yrs (Alfa state 31mpg overall). The Fiesta engine seems to run well. Is it normal for a company's consumption figures to be so far from reality or might there be a problem with this car? -
M way Overhead message boards 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Unfortunately it appears they mostly don't seem to be, and are used to display inane nanny state messages about taking a brake or keeping left. Often they are "accidentally" left displaying old news like fog when morning fog has long gone, or queues / delays from the previous Friday nights rush "3" hours early on Saturday morning. -
1994 Honda Accord ABS light 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
This is quite annoying, and very luckily did not occur last week when I had the car M.O.T'd. even when the light is on the brakes work very well and do not lock, even under a real attempt to make them lock. ANY help or advise would be appreciated. -
Audi A6 leak 9 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Does it need regasing if the liquid is leaving permanent marks on the driveway. Could it be powersteering liquid or brake fluid? I have checked all levels and they are fine and the car itself runs fine without any warning signals. It is driving me mad can anyone suggest what this could be? Please help! -
Peugeot 206 ECU Design Fault 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Peugeout 206 X Reg 21,000 miles Driving on the A12 around 70 mph my engine cut out leaving me with no power steering and the brakes going hard, which was extremly dangerous. Having taking it to a Peugeout Garage the problem was the ECU had crashed and is costing me £500. Having reading reports from watchdog and looking on here it appears to be a massive problem. -
Peugeot 306. Vibration & noise.. 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
So far I've replaced the lower arm bushes, anti roll bars, and had the wheels tracked and balanced. I know the brake discs are thin, but not ready for changing. No change to the noises though. A friend said that wheel bearings were 'indestructable these days', and suspension 'should last to 80k miles at least'. -
Is this wheely posible? 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi All, Just had an interesting discovery having had a puncture on my BMW 330 (a gash in they tyre which made it flat very very quickly!)...... The space saver spare will *Not* fit onto the wheel - it fouls on the brake calliper - confirmed by breakdown recovery chap !!!! Has anyone else come across this or know how may variants of space saver spare wheel BM has? Also curious as to what I should expect. The car was sold via the approved used programme, it is only 6 months old and 1600 on the clock (i am in my 3rd wk of ownership).
