Can anyone help?
My Audi A6 2.8 auto 1999 keeps leaving permanent spots on my driveway. They are located dead centre of the front seats.
I thought it was an oil leak but after Audi checked it, they said that there is no leak and the undertray was completely dry.
What can it be? I managed to touch the liquid once straight after the car had left a drop..it has a yelly oily complexion but not as thick as oil.
Could it be the aircon discharge? Does it need regasing if the liquid is leaving permanent marks on the driveway. Could it be powersteering liquid or brake fluid?
I have checked all levels and they are fine and the car itself runs fine without any warning signals.
It is driving me mad can anyone suggest what this could be? Please help!

Sounds like wax/underseal leaking off the car...

Sounds like wax/underseal leaking off the car...
Is that possible on a car that's 6 yrs old, and that summer is over?

I have the same on my 2000 A6 quattro 2.8.
I received an "advisory" report from an Audi dealer which stated that there was a leak at the secondary sump gasket and they would repair it for £256. (They also gave advice on other issues which turned out to be wrong or highly exaggerated.) Suspicious, I had it checked by an independent who cleaned the area up and laughed. They told me there is a slight weep from somewhere behind the timing cover but at a very minor rate. They charged me £20. This is borne out by the fact that when I check the oil manually before I use the car (which is only at weekends) there is no measurable change in the level at the dipstick.
The Audi dealer in my neck of the woods has a particularly poor reputation for honesty and integrity. The independents, on the other hand, seem to be thriving on the opportunities this creates.

Thanks for the advice but I have found out what the leak was.
I took it to an independent to have the exhuast checked. I got under the car while on the ramp and found out that it was the gearbox leaking fluid. I could not find before because it was located high between the two catalytic converters so can only be sighted while the car was on a ramp.
The independent said it was a seal and is a common problem, usually occurs in A8's and VW Passats. Lucky he knew how to fix this beacause it is quite a specialist job.
Just as well I knew what I was looking for and not the £100 per hour Audi mechanic! Makes you think what they do on costly Inspection services...considering all the Audi technicians seem to come straight out of school...stick to the independent specialists I say!

Now you've got me worried...

Yes, I thought about that before I posted.
I had a Golf that leaked wax from the tailgate for the nearly ten years that I owned it, any time, summer or winter.
It does seem an odd place, tho. Just an idea, and I have heard of this happening on an A6.
