vectra di power loss 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I have a 1997 Vectra 2l di 130k, the problem is that lately the brakes have gone spongey at the pedal, feeling very vague, and after a few seconds slowly head for the floor,as if i am loosing fluid or have a knackered servo, but have no fluid loss,at the same time the engine is as dead as a door nail, nearly 50% down on power, this problem would come and go, but now it is aways there, and feels like i am towing a bus everywhere,,,,can anyone help, before all my hair is pulled out.. -
Vectra rear discs 5 May 2004 (Forum)
Posted on the other board re a vectra I purchased last weekend.53 plate nearly 8k on the clock. Its going back in to get a few niggles'sorted'. Ive noticed that the rear brake discs are scored also very slight lip on them, which suprised me due to the age and mileage of the vehicle .The front discs are fine as are the pads front and back.Raised it with the dealer and he stated the scoring was due to rust!! -
LPG runs faster ! Ford Transit. 2 litre 14 Apr 2004 (Forum)
It starts and runs fine but when it is on gas the revs dont drop back fully to tickover which means a bit more braking ! If I switch off the gas the revs drop to normal as soon as the petrol takes over. The throttle linkage is OK - its a gas thing I think. Anybody had a similar problem or any ideas please? -
Waiting for the impact 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Lights changed to green, all sprint forward up to the stationary traffic which appeared to be invisible to the sprinters as there was a lot of sharp braking going on. I thought, any second now... Sure enough, on the less than grippy surface, bang, nice little nose-to-tail job. Now if he'd only stopped to let me out....... -
Car Servicing 31 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have always just got 6 monthly oil changes, replaced the air filter and spark plugs myself, carried out the rest of the basic checks and had things like brake fluid and coolant changed when required. Do you think that is enough or should the car be put in for a garage service? Also would you change spark plugs as a matter of course after 20,000 miles (4 years), everyone seems to think just leave them if the car is running ok. -
One less reason to be upset... 18 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The Trafic only cost a total of £133 for its MOT (including the fee). Not bad for a van that cost £750 Christmas 2002 Problems were: Rear brakes - Compensator needed adjusting Rear bumper sharp edges - tidied up and sharp edges now covered neatly. Bulb - replaced Ball joint - replaced. Front exhaust pipe - Plated for now as access was a doddle with the front hub out of the way, may need changing shortly. -
Fiesta wobbly steering 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
In all other respects the handling seems quite normal, no pulling to one side or any vibration and self centres normally and brakes in a straight line. Checked tyres (even looking for a bulge in the tread which once happened to me) done the balancing, changed the tyres etc. Any body got any other ideas ? -
Mazda MX6 Auto cutting out 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
More concerning was that when reaching 3500rpm the engine cuts out completley. When travelling at 75mph the loss of brakes and power steering is disconcerting. The only evidence of a fault I could see was the HOLD light flashed on the console. The manufacturers hand book helpfully explains this is an electrical issue in the Auto transmission. -
Golf MkIV, losing power 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I was coming around a busy roundabout, in 2nd and gently accelerating, when suddenly the battery warning light came on (no other warning lights) and I lost all power to the steering (and, I guess, to the assisted brakes, but it was a bit of blur). There was no murmur whatsoever from the engine to suggest that it was cutting out; one moment it was there, the next it wasn't. I was able coast the car to the kerb, switch on the hazards, and switch the key to off. -
K10 Micra worry 7 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have rang Nissan and they couldn't tell me where the asbestos is. I understand it could be one of three places perhaps. The clutch, brakes pads or the bulkhead. Could you please tell me where the asbestos is so i can crack on with sorting this car out? Any ideas? Thanks. -
civic warped discs 4 Aug 2003 (Forum)
i have a 94 Honda civic LSI thats done 100,000 miles. Shes a lovely little runner but I am getting through more brake discs than petrol. I had none Honda ones on there that lasted 3 months before they warped. I got a new set and they lasted 3 months before again it was stopping like a shaky set from Blakes 7. Do you think that I should just be less of a tight wad and shell out for proper Honda ones (bearing in mind they could cost more than the cars worth)OR Do you think there is something more sinister??????????? -
Trooper Front Hub 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi Folks, Has anyone done a 3.1 Trooper front brake disc change? I can't seem to get past the automatic diff lock assembly which, I surmise, hides a large nut which keeps the hub on the half-shaft splines. Or does it? Do I need a truck-size puller? -
What difference do Tyre Pressures make 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Would it make a difference on the economy The Manufacturers seem to be pretty exact on what pressure they specify ? Does it really make all the difference, especially once the tyres are worn and the shockers, brakes etc are no longer new. Any advice/experiences received with thanks ! -
Bora rear fogs 19 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I appreciate the safety aspect in that it is sometimes easier to see stop lights when you have only one rear fog light but with more cars having high level brake lights that seems to be less of a problem. Any help would be appreciated. Claybuster -
Vibrating steering wheel. 26 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have a 480 volvo that has just been lowered with Leda adjustable suspension, 'new' larger front brakes and 'new' rims with 4 brand new BF goodrich tyres. I now have a vibrating steering wheel at over 50 mph (well it wiggles very subtlely). I suspect that the tyres were not balanced (long story) but given how much has changed, do l need to consider other possibilities when l put the car in? -
Capillary oil gauge tubing 19 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I'm after some tube or a kit for a capillary oil gauge on my grasstrack car.I've tried all the local motor factors, and to no avail. They sell brake pipe, which is too large a bore, but not this stuff, which is very small. At the moment it's part metal, part plastic, but I would like to get my hands on a complete plastic kit. Usually, you get the tube if you buy an aftermarket gauge, but it's only the tube and fixings I'm after. -
Car Wars 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I know the truck driver should not have moved into lane 3, but it was obvious that there was a good chance he was going to and plod had plenty of time to brake before he actually did. Thoughts? Andy -
Saxo-106 Fuel filter 4 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The chap in the parts dept said they usually refit the filter with cable ties. I don,t like the sound of this because I could only see brake or petrol pipes to secure them to. The plastic strap looks so fragile that I imagine most owners must have this problem at sometime. -
Overheating 30 Nov 2002 (Forum)
After driving for between five and six miles on a morning, with air con & internal recirculation both turned on and the heater on full, the car temp gauge is almost hitting the red bar. If I'm on the motorway and it goes up to the red bar I can bring the temperature down by braking sharply, or speeding up!! Any ideas, anyone? The car is a 1.4 306, 2000X with 45,000mls. It was last serviced at 35,500mls. I've also got a clonking gearbox - when it is in 3rd or 5th I can press the gear stick to the side and it makes a harsh vibration. -
