Looking for general advice,I have a 61 plate Toyota Yaris in very good condition she has only done 41,000 miles. She is very reliable,in the two years that I have had her I have replaced all the tyres as they were quite worn when I got her,the original battery went and her brakes need some work soon.
I love her! however she is almost 12 years old and I have a toddler now,and a medium sized dog. I am worried that she is getting older, everything inside the car is very cramped even without a dog or baby a big load of shopping and my work stuff fills the car.... Read more
Hi all. My car is a 69 plate Acenta diesel 13800 miles. I bought it two weeks ago and am having some issues the last couple of days.
Driving to work today the auto start stop disabled warning came on. Stopped for petrol 20 mins later and when I turned the ignition off the whole car went dead, all info panels etc. Filled up and when I went to start it everything was dead, not turning over at all and no info panels. Couple of turns and a bit of swearing and it came back on again. Drove for a couple of mins and parked up for work.
Yesterday my front lights were flickering I noticed driving into work for a bit.
Could it be connected and my battery? Car was bought from a Nissan dealer so it should have been checked when I bought it.
The other thing is the milage I'm getting. Just done one full tank on a diesel engine and barely sc***ped 390 miles. My Clio with the same engine was on 520 miles. It's saying 58 miles per gallon on my Micra panel for the 390 miles but that would be around 510 miles which I didn't get anywhere near. Read more
As Skidpan mentioned - Customer Rights Act 2015 -
Under the new act, if a fault renders the product not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose or not as described, then the buyer is entitled to reject it within the first 30 days....
I saw an article by an American driver but thought I would ask the question here ?? The person in this article is suggesting in fog/heavy rain that you ONLY use your parking light. Perhaps the Americans call the dipped light their parking light ?
How many of you put your parking light on when moving, in poor visibility ?... Read more
Indeed-and I can remember a massive multi prang in fog on the A12-early sept a few years ago where the road is near the river …. Everyone involved in shorts with “disgusted of Ipswich” faces
((chuckle)) Rather like us today after the Leeds game... ;-)
Hi.
Car has a high emissions result of 2.52. There's no fault codes or EML on so it's really confusing and I don't know where to start troubleshooting. It's has a double dose of CataClean. 02 sensor is permanently on 0.8 volts but drops briefly when I put my foot down. Anyone got any tips please? Cheers Read more
It's probably Euro 4 with no DPF. A good dose of injector cleaner and a good hard thrash will most likely get it through.
The camshaft pulley bolts became lose on my 5yr old Kodiaq 1.4 Petrol after only 24400mls It has been suggested this fault was due to incorrect torque settings when manufactured. What ever the cause its not something that should occur at less than 25000 miles. If I'm unsuccessful requesting a good will gesture do you think I have a case for taking legal action. The bill is one thing but worse is the inconvenience of not having a car for 3 wks Read more
I contacted the Skoda dealer for a progress report and was told the parts have been ordered and the bill would be £1055
Apparently any gesture of good will would have to be sanctioned by .Skoda at Milton Keynes ...
With the recent news that radio station Classic fm will be dropping their DAB coverage for the newer DAB+ (though seemingly keeping FM for now), I was wondering how many newer (non-high end) cars actually come equipped with DAB+ at all or at least can be easily and cheaply adapted / upgraded to accept the new radio system?
In the past, people owning cars with only FM could, if I recall, buy an add-on receiver unit that would retransmit an FM signal so their car radio could pick up the DAB signals. Are such devices still available, and do they exist to do the same for DAB+ to either FM or DAB, or even directly via the car's USB port or Bluetooth to the in-car entrainment system, depending upon the car?... I didn't realise DAB+ was a thing, might that explain why Union Jack which i listened to most of the day via DAB in the truck suddenly vanished one day?
They went into administration last year....
Daughter was told that the DAB radio function (missing on some models in the past year or so) and a dab pliug in kit on the windscreen provided instead, had been fixed and new models should arrive fully equipped.
So went to order one with the proviso that would check the car before completing purchase and would then pay balance r if not wnated return of deposit. (this before registration)... Read more
MG’s website says DAB is standard on all grades of HS.
If she likes the car, why not use the inbuilt Apple CarPlay/Android Auto to stream radio stations?
Hey all, another addition to my interminable fiesta woes! My rear lights are out. The hazards and break lights work, but the regular rear ones just don't. As I write this I'm sat in a recovery truck on my way home (after waiting 6 hours ??) and I'm just wondering is it likely to be a fuse as the recovery guy says? He refused to look at the fuse box and just did a straight recovery without trying to fix it.

If this is the first of the current model fiesta , there may be a fuse in the engine bay box . Fuse #22 will be a 15 amp blue .
Spot on! Went to Halfords. Bought two fuses, dropped one in a puddle, then when I pulled my fuse out one of the prongs snapped off and stuck in the slot. I very cleverly dug it out with a pair of metal tweezers but still couldn't get the new fuse in. Halfords wouldn't look at it. Went to another local garage who fixed it without charge! So relieved that it's back on the road so I can keep driving it until something else goes wrong (probably by next Thursday if current trends are an indication)
Noticed how well received the latest Suzuki Swift has been among a few of us here, not exactly enthralled by its looks, someone mentioned the Renault Laguna and how facelifts can sometimes be to a model's detriment.
Taken to extremes these facelifts can lead to the ending of what where up to then well loved long lived cars, the one that springs immediately to mind is Granada morphing into Scorpio, looks only a mother could love.... Read more
I had an original Octavia in the early 70's, before I was old enough to drive. A friend of my Mums gave it to me to play with and learn about car mechanics. Seemed great at the time but not a design classic :-)
It's a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i combi, which we had installed about 5 years ago I think. Every now and again, perhaps 5 to 10 times a day, it makes a sort of motor running noise for about 10 seconds, fairly consistent, steady pitch, more of a grinding noise than a whirring. There's a definite start and stop; it sounds quite controlled.
Can't match it up with any of these:... Read more
I had an IDEAl fitted during lockdown (there wasn't anything else available). It's supposed to have a ten year warranty, subject to servicing conditions, I guess like modern car main dealer stipulations. OK so far, but I'm getting servicing through IDEAL.
