The camshaft pulley bolts became lose on my 5yr old Kodiaq 1.4 Petrol after only 24400mls It has been suggested this fault was due to incorrect torque settings when manufactured. What ever the cause its not something that should occur at less than 25000 miles. If I'm unsuccessful requesting a good will gesture do you think I have a case for taking legal action. The bill is one thing but worse is the inconvenience of not having a car for 3 wks Read more
Noticed how well received the latest Suzuki Swift has been among a few of us here, not exactly enthralled by its looks, someone mentioned the Renault Laguna and how facelifts can sometimes be to a model's detriment.
Taken to extremes these facelifts can lead to the ending of what where up to then well loved long lived cars, the one that springs immediately to mind is Granada morphing into Scorpio, looks only a mother could love.... Read more
I had an original Octavia in the early 70's, before I was old enough to drive. A friend of my Mums gave it to me to play with and learn about car mechanics. Seemed great at the time but not a design classic :-)

Genuinely forgot to disclose an accident on my daughters insurance. The claim was declared closed and filed in September 23. The accident happened in September 22. She had another accident today but when I looked over her policy for excess the other accident hadn't been declared. She had genuinely forgotten. Obvs we have sent a claim for the eaccident today already. Not sure if the woman will claim or not. Do you suggest I call the insurance company and explain the situation? What might happen Read more

Thankfully neither an imaginary (still working his aged arthritic fingers to the bone) steering wheel operative or a retired Mandarin are daft enough to not tell their insurer pertinent info thereby not risking their well deserved comforts....
Just noticed this on a car I purchased recently. It looks like a DIY repair. Would this cause any issues? I was concerned about the kink. Not sure how critical this pipe is to the running of the engine overall.
Looks like the correct pipe , either been fitted incorrectly or it’s collapsed internally. If it’s not leaking, wouldn’t be too concerned. Take it off and check it’s condition. It’s only an oil breather pipe .
The French government platform for reporting product alerts and recalls has issued a recall for these cars as they could emit gas emissions in excess of regulatory limits.
In particular they could emit too much nitrogen oxide.... Read more

Just don't eat too many baked beans before the MOT!
How can I handle a speeding ticket I received as a young driver for going 76mph in a 55mph zone, which was later reduced to 65mph on the citation? I made a mistake, fueled by a tiring day at work and being frustrated by a car preventing me from passing. I complied and pulled over immediately when I saw the flashing lights, and I remained respectful and cooperative with the officer. As a relatively inexperienced driver, I am seeking guidance on how to navigate this situation and any steps I can take to minimize the impact on my driving record and insurance rates. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Read more
It certainly does help, much obliged for that comprehensive reply Middleman.
Thankyou.
Just read that the county has come to an utter halt due to the snow, made worse by people ignoring advice not to travel, driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid drifts/ abandoned vehicles before getting stuck themselves.
I had a few Pandas and can vouch for their ability in the white stuff.
Hey everyone, hope you're staying warm!

Just the weather for heated seats. If you have them do you use them or does the novelty wear off? Read more
I first had heated seats in a Peugeot 406 3.0 v6, back in 1997. I've had them in every car since.
The latest car has a remote control app. I can set it to heat the car, and demist front and rear screens 10 minutes before I want to leave. I wish I'd had it when I was working - I'd often have 5am starts,

I contacted the Skoda dealer for a progress report and was told the parts have been ordered and the bill would be £1055
Apparently any gesture of good will would have to be sanctioned by .Skoda at Milton Keynes ...
