Question ODB1 and 2
AndrewAUK99

I bought an ODB2 scanner for our Nissan Xtrail and it did exactly what we wanted. I was also told it would help with a friends Vauxhall Movano diesel van (2001) but when I took the panel off I'm pretty sure it is an ODB connector ( I dont know as Ive never seen one )

Is there a way of connecting my motorpower ODB2 scanner to an ODB1 connector ?... Read more

2012 Megane Coupé 1.6dci with an intermittent EML. I’ve had it plugged into a Renault diagnostic laptop which is flagging up ‘secondary coolant heater’, but I’m not convinced it has one.
Has anyone got access to a wiring diagram for the car? The Haynes manual doesn’t cover this engine.

Yes, slightly frustrating that it’s driving exactly the same as it did previously, taking the same amount of time to warm up, but needed a £215 part to extinguish an amber light that would have prevented it getting an MOT.

I recently bought a Hyundai and was reading through my warranty a couple of days ago. It states I get one free health check a year whilst the car is under warranty. The dealership (a Hyundai dealership) I bought the car from sold me a customer care package which include 2 free health checks a year.

They clearly would have known this was not needed and therefore mis-sold. They have been a complete nightmare to deal with from the get go, adding tax twice for the car, not being knowledgeable regarding functions in the car, letting me drive away without dust caps on tyres and the salesman who sold me the car communication was awful.... I'm not a legal expert, but you may have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Start by contacting the dealership to address the issue, and if needed.

Hope im posting this in the right place, this morning on our way to work i approached a t junction to turn right and having a good distance before the next car (Taxi) approached me i began to merge, i pulled across the lane and into a box for the cars from the left to turn right as a driver coming from my left let us in i started to pull out, in the meantime the taxi had pulled across the front of the van and i then t boned him very very lightly! Gets stranger i obviosly stopped to get details and the taxi was sat stationary in the turning box facing the wrong way i pulled out the way and onto a side road and had to walk back down as the taxi driver was still sat in his car and would not get out or communicate at all, the police were called and turned up half quick and did the details exchange for us very very strange this and i havent had to deal with anything like this before. unsure who is to blame and unsure why he wouldnt give details untill the police were present. just to confirm i hit the taxi whilst the taxi was in a box for turning right but facing the wrong direction according to the arrow in the box!

I am reading from this that you approached the road from the junction, and therefore had a give way in front of you.

Anything beyond this is irrelevant, as traffic coming from any direction has right of way. I have come across this when going around parked cars on the wrong side of the road, cars coming from the junction have failed to look both ways, when they can clearly see only 1 side of the road is free and I have had to toot my horn to let them know I am there....

Can anybody tell me what mpg to expect from my Mokka ? Read more

Kenny, Your Mokka's town mileage of 27-28 mpg seems reasonable for urban driving. Keep an eye on the Real MPG data for a more accurate comparison. To be honest I rarely look at the main section of the website, keeping the Backroom tidy and dealing with admin is all I have time for. I don't know who's behind the "Ask HJ" facility except it will be one of the Editors....

Hi, I’m a self employed dog walker looking for a replacement for my van which was unfortunately written off last week after someone ran into the back of it. Budget approx £8k.

I’m aware some people in similar professions have had issues with clogged DPF diesel filters. Some of them seem to have had to spend £2-3k to sort these issues and still have ongoing problems. Many of us drive quite short distances to pick up and drop off say 4 dogs from houses in quick succession and by nature of carrying dogs we tend to drive relatively slowly. That is my pattern every week day plus longer faster journeys some evenings and weekends.

I’m wondering if I’m asking for trouble with a vehicle with a diesel DPF filter, but from what I can gather it’s a universal thing in vehicles built after about 2015. So it seems maybe I can’t avoid it?

So, I’m thinking maybe a petrol vehicle may be better. But unfortunately all this is new to me, and I’m not sure what to do for the best?

I drive about 120 miles per week.

Thank you Read more

Local dog walker uses the XL (longer) version of the Vauxhall Combo Life on a 68 plate and its a 1.2 petrol.
Shes not cheap but seems to get lots of business and the Combo Life is in use every day.
