Hi
Super confused with the above two models.
Not sure which one would be the best for me. For my budget I might get a 70k mile example of both.
I would Lloyd to know your opinion on both. Please do let me know how reliable these cars are and how much it would cost for servicing.

Thank you Read more

This is my past experience of a BMW 1 series and a Seat Leon 1.4.

Mine was a 118D ES Edition. Had it for almost 6 years and other than servicing and consumables the only additional expense was battery (replaced under warranty) and a pair of front springs. Over those 6 years it averaged about 48 mpg (calculated not form the lying dash display). I accept they don't have great rear space but that was not an issue for us which was why we bought it. Compared to the other cars we looked at (Golf, Civic, Auris, Ceed etc) it was head and shoulders better and not a lot more money....

I bought a cheap, slightly damaged 2016 Forester. The left passenger door is a little bent and badly scratched. It doesn't quite fall closed like the right one and needs a little pressure or slight slam to close. The door opening seems perfect as do the hinges.

I'm looking to replace the door. I have seen a nice one on ebay, in blue, but its 2009-2013... Read more

Gen 3 & Gen 4 - there is a 100 mm difference in wheelbase - 10cm / 4 inches is a lot - 100% no chance the doors are the same.

After having my trusty Astra Estate written off I'm in the market for a new used car. We were looking to upgrade anyway and get something with more space as Holiday trips were a struggle with family + dog.

The key need is to fit two car seats and have space in the rear for another (admittedly slim) person to be relatively comfortable for longer holiday trips and have a good size boot for prams/cots/luggage... Read more

For the budget the OP appears to be a little too fussy.

When buying at this price range you need to accept shortcomings when finding a good deal.

A left field option is a petrol Fiat Tipo estate

Hi All

My wife went to the car to go out and opened the car with the remote , the car screen lit up then went off and the car has no power at all, only the Garmin dash can light in the ODB was flashing quickly, I had to lock the car with the key manually. Is this a battery issue please. ... Read more

I think modern cars are more likely to be 'alive' even when switched off. I had this problem with my 2005 Audi A8 which is now rarely driven. Its computer is always on, sensors alert, e.g. interrogating itself every so often to see if it's level and moving air around the suspension if it isn't. Battery lasted a mere 5yrs or so. So I hung a Halfords battery charger on the boot curry hook and plugged it into a weekly time clock to give it a boost for 4hrs every Mon,Wed &Fri. If we go away for longer than a week I disconnect the battery.

May I have your recommendations for an overnight hotel combined with parking for a week and transfer arrangements please.

Premier Inn looks good but don’t have parking whilst you are away. Read more

In the past I've booked parking direct with Gatwick and Premier Inn hotel 1 minute's walk from terminal direct with hotel. Beware many of the parking providers want you to leave your keys with them, including (at last look) all the Holiday Extra options, I much prefer keeping my keys with me. I know some use the short term car park (very expensive) whilst others (like me) use the long term car park and take the shuttle bus to the terminal. It does not matter whether North or South, there is a free transit between the two, it does not take very long.

My 2005 Honda Jazz has been off-the-road since April 2020, parked in a lockup garage and I've reluctantly decided that I no longer need it. The vehicle was well cared for until the pandemic struck and has just 40,000 miles on the clock.

I understand it would be worth between £1,890 - £2,100 in a road-worthy condition but I'd like to know what work is likely to be required to return it to that state, and hence whether this would give me a better return than just sc***ping it for a few hundred quid.

I'm aware that the battery is dead, it has two flat tyres which may well need to be replaced and it will need an oil / fuel change but I guess this would just be the tip of the iceberg. Obviously it would need an MOT as well (and the last MOT included an advisory for 'Macpherson strut pin or bush worn' on both the near and offside front upper).

Thanks in anticipation. Read more

Will probably depend on how damp the garage was.

Question MOT question

My Piaggio Porter truck is going for a service, MOT and a few other bits and bobs on Friday. One of the issues which has cropped up is that the catch to hold the passenger seat upright has broken (this being the truck, the backrest folds forward on to the base, then the whole thing lifts up, hinged at the rear, to allow engine access). I had asked my (new) trusted indy to fix it, assuming it would just be a case of welding the broken section, which I have, back in place. But I decided to remove the seat today and have a look, the prognosis being that due to the condition of the part of the seat frame the bit broke off from is that it won't fix.

Now I did buy a 2nd hand seat off Ebay this afternoon, but there is no way it will arrive before the start of next week at the earliest. That got me thinking though, the seat is still currently off, so if I put it for its MOT with no passenger seat, would that be a fail?... Read more

Hi,

I'm owner of Honda CR-V 2008 2.0 Petrol Automatic for over a year. I just get on average just a bit over 20mpg and this is a pain in the ar**. This is because I mainly driving on short distances to city, shopping, lots of stops on traffic lighs etc. I am very gentle with gas pedal, but the mpg of this car is very expensive, causing I start thinking to change it....
