Hello, I'm looking to change my car and would be grateful for some suggestions.

I drive over 15,000 miles/year, mainly motorway miles with a 270-mile each-way trip once a fortnight. My trusty 2012 Mazda 6 2.2d at nearly 200k miles is going from trusty to rusty, so time to think about replacing it. I average around 56mpg on the motorway, and do very little town driving. The other car in the family is a Renault Captur, which I enjoy driving but it's not been reliable unfortunately, as it doesn't like periods of not being driven, e.g. 3 weeks between being used.

My wish-list includes:
Good fuel economy at motorway speeds
Must be reliable car, cheap to run, and easy to obtain and fit parts
Boot big enough for 2 large suitcases
Must have space for a full-size or space-saver spare wheel, the foam stuff is useless if the tyre gets shredded on the motorway at
midnight.
I'd prefer small SUV/crossover, but not essential. Economy and reliability are the top factors.

My budget is in the £10k-£12k range though might go a bit higher for the perfect car. I'd be happy with another diesel, never had a problem with them, but would need to be Euro6 ULEZ compliant.

Thanks in advance! Read more

I have a Mercedes C180 - 2008. The rear indicators and rear windscreen air-con randomly stop working. Sometimes whilst driving or as soon I start the engine. I turn the engine off, remove the key, leave it for a few seconds, restart the engine and everything works again. Has anyone else come across this problem and know what is the cause/solution?

Thank you. Read more

So far in 2023 Audi S4 have most insurance claims in USA

Having googled the study, it's based on % not absolute number - so hardly surprising that a popular high performance car attracts some dodgy drivers.

Interestingly the Chevrolet Volt was the 3rd worst - GM's first generation EV....

I have a Fiat Punto and I need the key for the locking bolt. I have taken it to a garage and they want to charge me £240 for the kit to unlock it but I'm wondering if anyone knows what key it is and a cheap place to buy it.

Go to a back street tyre place, they can drill them off and replace with non locking bolts. Worst case scenario you will need to source your own non locking bolts

Agree. A good indy tyre fitter will have the tools and -more importantly - the skill to get them off without damage.

One near me charged just £2 a wheel.

Hello everyone, there's a little problem that happens with my car. It's a Fiat Punto from 2007 bought last year. This is a problem that has always existed since I bought this car, now I want to investigate more. The problem is with the clutch: after a bit of driving, it does a squeaking sound when you both press it or release it, especially when you release it (the sound can be heard from the video). So, when you start the car and the engine is cold there's no sound from the clutch, but after a bit, especially if you stress the clutch (a lot of traffic, uphill starts and so on), it starts making that noise, just as if it gets "tired"; when you don't use the clutch, it restores its efficiency, and there's no noise after a while. Other than the noise, it becomes less fluid upon release. I want to say that, when the clutchs starts doing that noise, other than the sound itself and the less fluidity, it looks like there's no other issues.

Note: when they sold me the car, they put a bit of lubricant when I said that the clutch did that noise, and it has improved since then, but the problem never completely fixed.... Read more

Hey guys! I hope you will read this message.

I spoke to a mechanic about the problem and he said that he needs to replace the clutch itself and, if I keep like this, the clutch can break at any moment. It's not so expensive, but it's not even the cheapest job in the world and, after your comments, I never thought I had to replace the whole clutch. He didn't even see the car as I only described the problem, just like I did with you (when I spoke to him I went with another car)....
