I have a 2011 Mazda 3 1.6 Petrol. Around 2 months ago I got the dreaded Engine Management Light. Fault code came back as o2 sensor, running lean.

The mechanic cleared the code and didnt do any work. I used Wynns lambda cleaner on two tanks and since then the problem has been intermittent.... Read more

Possibly neither the throttle body or lambda sensor are faulty . These suffer with inlet manifold gasket leaking which causes excess air into the engine.

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm having an issue with my car cutting out and engine management light coming on. This seems to happen when travelling downhill when foot is taken off accelerator which is very bizarre. Fault code P0219 engine overspeed condition comes up on my code reader. Has anybody got any idea why this is happening?

This will seem like 'teaching Granny to suck eggs' to many back-roomers, but I thought it was worth mentioning. It doesn't get the attention changing oil and filter does (and is not so essential) but it's worth doing for a few quid.

I changed the filter on my last car, an 07 Lacetti. £12 from a local factor, took about 15 mins and required a screwdriver. Was black, stuffed with leaves, dust and general detritus.Did the same on DIL's Lacetti (£7 on ebay) took 10 mins. also filthy. Air flow vastly improved, not to mention the quality of air.... We live in an increasingly litigious society. Numerous minor "irritants" which a few decades ago would not even have registered as issues - eg: secondary smoking, volatiles (paint, aerosols etc), H&S rules etc are now controlled or baneed.

Some of these are demonstrably dangerous in large quantities and can have an impact with short exposures. In the past, common sense prevailed - obviously a not so common attribute....

I had a chat yesterday with my wife's brother, and his looming retirement at the end of the year came up.

He is a teacher and was living close to the school, so he didn't use a car to get to work but have a very old knackered V reg Audi A4 that he uses for the occasional 500 miles trip to Lincolnshire. His kid left the nest, so it's just him and the Mrs.... Read more

Tested an awfully gold special edition manual Yaris 1.5 2019 with 18k on the clock. Also tried a new Jazz.

He decided on the Yaris as the Honda has too many buttons (?!)....

This thread started out innocently but has descended into too much politics. This is a motoring forum and whilst politics inevitably creeps into almost everything in society, there are limits which have been exceeded.

I've tidied up the thread, apologies if any useful post has got removed in the process.

Hi all,

I am a fairly new driver and at the weekend misjudged a space in a multi-storey and scraped another car. There were minor scratches and paint transfer with my car and there’s. I got out and checked the damage and then moved to a different space. I did not have a pen or paper so was unable to leave a note. After a while I went back to the car park and checked my own car but also waited for about 15-20 minutes to see if someone would come to the other car so I could speak to them but they didn’t appear. I then went back into the shopping centre and when I came back they were gone. I felt and still do feel incredibly guilty. I wish I had been able to speak to the driver of the other car but they were not there. As soon as I got home I put all my details in an email to the shopping centre in case someone contacts them. Because I didn’t leave a note I also reported it to 101 and have a reference number. This was done well within 24 hours I add. I have also notified my insurance saying I don’t want to claim but as info in case they got contacted. This was on Saturday and I still have not heard anything. I have worried a couple of times and live chatted with my local police department. Both times the operators have assured me I have done all I can and cannot do anymore. They have said if someone does contact 101 they will just pass my details so they can contact me. Is there anything else I can do? Have I done everything correctly? Read more

Hi Miniman,

Thanks for your advice, at the time I did not take pictures of the other cars numberplate and have realised in the future if anything occurs I will look to do this and try and keep a pen and paper in my car. I appreciate the future advice and know you are not trying to criticise. I have done as much as I have been able to but yes with your advice if anything happens in the future I will be able to do more

Hi I need some advice I have a 2014 countryman petrol, Ive had engine management lights constantly on, car doesnt drive correctly(idling et). O2 Sensor has been changed, ignition coil, sparks. Recently on the scanner cyclinder 4 misfire P0304 has come up. A compression test was done with it droppping to 0, advice has been various things burnt valves, hydraulics, exhaust etc.

I just need some advice if anyone has gone though this, a rough cost of sorting this out and what the issue could be.... Read more

A work colleague bought a 4 year old Mini from an independent dealer.. 5 months into ownership engine maangement light came on, limp mode and dealer 'fixed it'. Problem reoccurred several times until dealer warranty expired. She had confidence in dealer but should have have rejected the car. Ended up with £1k worth of 'repairs' without success and finally gave up trading it in at a loss.

Two months ago we bought a 2017 Ibiza with a new MOT from a large dralership. All was fine until my wife remarked that the car was sliding about the road in wet conditions. After checking the tyres I could not believe what I saw.The two front tyres had wires poking out the full diameter of the wheel in three places on the inside of both front tyres.Theres no way on earth that the car could have passed an MOT two months previously.Just wondered if the garage has acted illegally and the best course of action to take.

Thanks Read more

Thank you for coming back to update the thread. The garage could perhaps have been more thorough but these things happen. They've done the right thing and you've got a good result.

I hope you will continue to contribute to the forum, this is generally a friendly place.

Even worse is the VED based on emission level for your car. There's no emissions if it's parked. My mileage has reduced from 11000 a year to about 2000 but VED seems to increase year on year. Read more
