Hi everyone,
Just looking for some advice because I can’t find any good and recent examples online.
Yesterday I went through a no motor vehicles sign (Call St, Leeds. I believe that it’s recently been put into place to assist with social distancing). There was also a bit that said no cars between 7pm and 5am and I went through at 19:18.
I just wanted to know what’s the likelihood of me being fined for this and what’s the usual and max fine and/or penalty points I could possibly get for this?
Thaks! Read more

Coolant loss on 2010 ford fiesta. Head gasket done, cambelt and water pump changed. If I drive to work and go at 70 when I stop, and then get back in it 30 mins later it won't start. Check coolant and below add line. Top it up wait for it to cool and will eventually start. No coolant patches on floor no smoking. Head is fine no cracks. At a loss. I bought it and found out head gasket issues. Prior I had cambelt change along with the water pump. Now I seem to be driving it less as I don't trust it. Read more
Yes they did it was sent off to be tested came back with no cracks,, it was skimmed. Just replaced reservoir as fed up with the stained one. Now thats starting to turn black, it looks like it's blowing out of back of reservoir tank. Drained coolant from radiator there is a slight oil film on top.

How is this LEZ defined, how do we avoid it? Will it be set up with ANR such that it hoovers up cars straying unwittingly into the zone? Read more
It's truly disheartening to see Edinburgh set on the path to banning older cars under their clean air zone plans. It seems like a hard pill to swallow for classic car enthusiasts and those who cannot afford to constantly update their vehicles. The implications of such a policy, while understandable in the broader context of environmental conservation, seem somewhat dismissive of the rich motoring heritage that many older cars represent. Not to mention the negative impact on businesses dealing with coilover parts, which are essential for maintaining and enhancing the performance of these vintage beauties. This approach, to me, seems a bit like trying to put a plaster on a broken leg. We ought to be thinking about more inclusive solutions that cater to the needs of all citizens, not just the ones who can afford brand new, low-emission vehicles. Let's hope Edinburgh finds a balanced way to address its pollution problem without side-lining a significant group of motor enthusiasts and hardworking citizens. The struggle is real, and a clean air zone may not be the silver bullet we need.

I've saved thousands doing maintenance myself - replacing radiators, air-con compressor, alternators, batteries, drive shafts, discs and pads, etc, etc. It's not hard for someone willing to learn and put the time in. If in doubt, go online for tips and take your time with the job. The only thing I won't touch are clutches, timing belts, and engine internals as they need special knowledge/tools. As long as you change the oil regularly using decent oil, your car shouldn't have too many problems. Read more
If you drive a low enough milage to only need one service a year, not too difficult with modern service intervals and are lucky not to require any repairs during the year the figure seems reasonable.
This is assuming the figures are correct. However they are low as an average as many cars will require repairs and are more expensive to service especially larger models.
My costs over the last four years have been between £45 and £240 per year plus cost of MOT £45. These have been carried out at a main dealers, due to guarantee obligations.
I realise this won't be the case for many people but indicates these costs can be achieved using correct service intervals.
Putting charging points on the motorways is the easy bit. What about the remote locations in the UK, of which there are many. It’s no good going from the south of England to north west Scotland, if the last charge point is on the M74 in Glasgow! Read more
The UK's fuel station industry is facing a shift towards electric charging stations as the demand for fossil fuel cars decreases. Luxespeed, a car rental company, is already taking steps towards EVs, showing the trend towards electric transportation is gaining momentum. However, the future of traditional fuel stations remains uncertain as they will need to adapt to stay relevant in a changing market.

It amazes me how many dealers advertise cars without cleaning the seats. Or is it they're so stained it isn't possible to get them clean? Anyway, I won't view if the interior isn't clean. Perhaps most people aren't bothered about this? Read more
I had another member of staff whose office chair was so horrid that we paid the cleaner extra to give it a deep clean once a month.
When I was a bus driver, there was another driver who did a 'fixed shift', so he always did the same thing. This involved local town service for around 5 hours, off for a couple of hours, then back on to the same route for about another 3. The driver in question was a bigger chap (I know, unusual for a bus driver!), and it became the done thing that on a hot day, the 'regular driver' taking over from the fixed shift chap for that few hours in between, would take a newspaper with him/her....

Perhaps that is why they have such long warranties, you need that long for the part to arrive!
