.... or a snake
I bought a 58 plate agila 2 years ago in cash and i’m looking to get a new car in march 2022. i’ve had to get a new windscreen, new front bumper, new brakes, suspension fixed, new tyres and other things over the last 2 years.
It was my first car so i need advice about which option would get me the most deposit towards a new car. I’m aware it’s not worth much at all (and i definitely overpaid for it when i bought it but first car so lesson learned) but i’m wondering if i could sell it or if there’s a trade in scheme that would get me more for it.
i’ve never sold a car before so help please haha Read more
Good advice allround here. The cost to change is the key thing here as mentioned.
We're having a nightmare finding a car seat from 9 months + that will fit in the back of our Seat. It has bucket seats, so the rear facing positions (which we need until 15 months) are far too upright, and on many the belt won't go far enough to wrap around either. We've tried this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08126C325/ref=ox_sc_a...1 as it seemed compact but after visiting Halfords today even that isn't right.

I hate all the unnecessary electronic gubbins that are fitted to even the smallest of cars these days. Bluetooth this, hands free that, twenty ECU’s, numb electric steering and hugely complex automated manual gearbox all with an almost certain gargantuan bill for repair at the other end. My wife’s Volvo is full of complex electronics that fill me with fear and are never used by me if I can avoid it. Even turning on the A/C requires much eyes off road distraction. I long for simpler times.
If I could buy a modern version of this. Decent crash safety I’d like so it would be a bit bigger and yes it would have ABS and I’d like a hydraulic steering to retain some feel, I don’t care that it’ll do 0.5mpg less. I don’t need traction or stability control, I can actually drive. I want airbags and a strong shell and maybe central locking but that’s it! I want big buttons and simple controls. I want a straightforward engine and running gear that anyone can fix rather than a monstrosity that’s a write-off if it coughs. It would need fuel injection for reliability and it would need a bit more power for the weight but no more than adequate is needed for road use. What’s the point of 200bhp plus on the crowded roads we drive to work and back? Bar room bragging rights aren’t required here.
Someone build me a modern Sierra, or just buy this one for me.

I'd love to have the Mk3 Cavalier again. I had a 1600 91 plate for 10 years having sold it in 2002. Never a problem in all the time I had it. I managed to get 630 miles out of a tank of fuel. The only downside was rusty bits underneath that needed patching at MoT time.
I could be tempted if I had the space
Came across this explanation from a Bavarian motor engineer who did not work for Audi !

I see that a 27 year old Land Cruiser Amazon sold for $136,000.00 on Bring a Trailer (American website I think). Mint example with just 1,000 miles on the odometer, first owner for 26 years.
Would you? Im not sure why they wouldnt just buy a new one, Toyota have followed an evolutionary approach with this vehicle, so a new one is still body on frame and (I assume) solid rear axle as I haven’t seen the 4x4 forums going mental. Read more

My partners daughters 207SW was written off by a well known garage chain whilst in for a MOT. Their mechanic was out on a road test when he was hit by a delivery van, which was on the wrong side of the road.
The car has sustained considerable damage to the off side front wing. And the garage has agreed to deal through their insuarance.... Read more
.... £1750 does not put you back in the position you were before taking the car for its MOT. This is the premise of all insurance claims !
It may depend on how you look at it. If you were to go out and buy a near-identical 207SW on a dealer's forecourt (which you could expect to do if your insurer took the damaged car off your hands) you may be right. If you had sold your (undamaged) car privately before the accident, you would be lucky to approach that figure....
Came upon this brilliant YT clip showing the latest offerings from European makes to the UK market,
Felt I had to bring this thread back after watching these two YT clips of very different cars, also from 1973!

I have noticed here in sunny Basingstoke several small used car dealers closing, even a quite large one's windows have 'to let' signs plastered on them. One very near me which had some very expensive stock now has only two or three sorry looking examples on show. Is this a national trend due to the pandemic? Read more
I have been associated with car businesses in various shapes and forms for decades. This has been going on for a very long time with a consistent decline in secondhand traders. The trend was initiated by the internet and the increasing role of online sites, resulting in much greater price transparency. At the click of a button you can compare prices across the country and even a small price difference of a couple of hundred pounds can make the difference between getting phones calls or not.
In addition to downward price pressure, margins have been squeezed further with rising premises costs, more expensive stock etc. One dealer I know said that he had just had enough of whinging customers who would complain at the slightest thing on a cheap but otherwise good car. You may think secondhand car sales people are out to screw you, try some (but by no means all) of their customers!
