Hello guys. I'll start from the beginning. I bought 2007 Mazda 6 GG with RF7J engine, 143ps. Car had problems when I bought it and it was in limp mode. Turns out, 1 injector was faulty, I fixed it and got rid of limp mode. Then I noticed that turbo was not working as it should have been, the issue was vacuum hose, which was broken and after fixing it, car was like new, it was running fast and smooth, no problems at all. It had DPF light on while in limp mode but after fixing all the things, it got erased and never saw it again. now, after about 1-2 months I lost power again, I don't get any CEL, checked turbo for leaks and it is fine, the mechanic said the turbo itself is not damaged and works fine, however I get low boost, car accelerates normally up until 3K rpm and then it feels like something is holding it off. The gas pedal seems unresponsive too, because it does not matter if I floor it or push gently, almost same result of acceleration. I got P0402 (EGR excessive flow) code once, I was cruising on highway in 6th speed and TCS + CEL came on dashboard, checked it on OBD reader, cleared and never seen it again. My only guess is that DPF is clogged, but I don't get DPF warning light. Sometimes I get double digits on current consumption, just in case it helps to sort out this issue. Any help would be very appreciated. Sorry for the long post and thanks. Read more

Might be a partly-blocked fuel filter not allowing enough to flow through?

My previous Mazda 6 had that engine and I ran it to about 110,000 miles before trading it in, never had a moment's bother with it, but it was mainly A-roads and motorway mile....

I have noticed that diesel cars seem to be out of fashion at the moment, especially with the government and motoring press. Why demonise cars when all HGVs use diesel and are likely to for the forseeable future? Read more

The focus seems to be on making cars eco-friendly and forgetting about everything else such as making homes more energy efficient. Ignoring that shipping uses the dirtiest fuel. If we stopped importing goods from the far east, it might help curb that.

Thinking of buying Mazda CX-5. My Mazda 5, was valued at £6000, Thinking of CX-5, about £20,000. Now should I keep my Mazda 5, with 40,000 and get car serviced. I will have to pay monthly for 3-5 years, for a 2018! plate. My car is a low mileage, but eight years old.

Thank you. Keeping the car, I wasn’t overwhelmed with the CX-5. Don’t need all the extra toys.

I felt the same when I looked to change my 15yo gen-1 Mazda3 to a new gen-3 car back in early 2017. Nice car it was, but it (despite having 20% more power and 50% more torque) underwhelmed on the perfomance front and the purchase price was high (as was most rivals at the time). I had similar issues trying to find a mid-spec car - 75% were top spec, anothe 15-20% base spec (no climate control), little to no bargians on mid spec cars on the few that were even available.

The latest cars are a significant step up in interior quality and styling, and the SA-X engine and the 2.5 SA-G are decent (if not spectacular), but it is tough finding a reasonably-priced one, as most cars are (including those second hand up to 2yo)....

Hi all,

I don’t know much about cars so I’m looking for some advice...

I was driving my 2008 Clio today when there was a huge crunching noise and I lost steering. Turns out that the drive shaft has broken and the engine has fallen out- the mechanic did tell me about some bolts that have busted which were holding it in place. I’ve forgotten what they were called- sorry!

Looks like fixing it all will cost upwards of £700, but I’m aware that my car is probably only worth that so I’m trying to decide if I should cut my losses and get a new car or pay for the repairs.

I apologise for my lack of knowledge but if anyone could suggest what they think I should do in this situation I’d appreciate it. Read more

Once had similar on a Mk1 Fiesta. Changing gear the whole engine bounced due to worn engine mount.

Thankfully I caught it before major damage. I still use the pry bar the mechanic left under the bonnet!

Another day, I had a party, and I was to wait for a bus it did not turn up, so I had to call my sister to get me home!

Her car is cute Fiat Panda 1.2 8v 2007 which never been in before, but when she cruises the speed at 70mph (she did at 80mph sometimes) I was look at the rev counter it meet at 3,800 rpm for 80mph, I was wonder if she drove for a very long would not do any good to the engine?

I have a diesel which do 2,300rpm at 70mph in fifth gear. I can't believe the rev on petrol, it seems far too much!

Why are they doing that low gear ratio instead of high ratio, it would be save a lot on fuel. Read more

Ordered 4 new tyres online from RAC Tyres to be delivered to, and fitted by, my local fitter.

All went well but on returning home, I noticed that three tyres had a DOT manufacture date of 07/21 (Feb 21) but the fourth tyre was 16/19 (Apr 19).... Read more

Although that 3 year/5year rule might be the view of the dealers (who want to minimize their losses), the ADAC (AA/RAC of old equivalent) has the view that 2 years is the limit for new tyres.

Bought a 2002 1.8 golf gti 6months ago for my 20yr old daughter and I to share. Only due to be driven maybe twice week. She loved the car which is why we bought it and it drives very well.

Due to change of circumstances she is now going to be the main driver and using it 4 or 5 days a week for an 60mile round trip.... Read more

kiss (keep it simple)

I should have thought that once the car gets a 60 mile round trip the mpg should improve (unless it's a commute into London). A friend had the A4 turbo with that engine and used to get about 40.

Going to test drive a Mazda CX-5. Got Mazda 5 to part exchange, 2013 40,000 miles. Not looking to buy new at least two years old, about 20,000 miles. Is it a good idea not to commit too early, for example I’m looking at other cars. Good idea not to let them know a budget. I need some useful haggling techniques. Read more

I had a three year warranty, from 2016. No issues since I had the car, just replaced the main/original battery.
