Moderators do not set the policy, that is done by HJ/Heycars. The moderators' duty is to try and ensure the policy is adhered to.
We are required to keep this forum as close to Motoring as possible and the non-motoring one for other discussions. Now it is understandable and acceptable to some degree that threads do drift, some threads can arguably cover both forums, and some threads that start clearly in one forum can evolve and later be better suited to another sub-forum. It's not an exact science and the moderators will use their discretion in these matters....
Just had an enjoyable morning heading to the Trafford Centre to test drive a Polestar 2 at their site. They don’t have any dealerships, just a permanent centre in Milton Keynes and the TC, and regional ‘pop up’ test drive centres that operate for a few days then move on.
I went out in the Long Range Dual Motor variant, 408hp.
I’ve driven, and instructed, in Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, etc, but nothing that comes anywhere near the response and acceleration of the Polestar. If you’ve ever driven something like a Nissan LEAF, you’ll know it has the capability to embarrass lots of cars away from the lights, but this is LEAF multiplied by a factor of plenty. 0-60 is quoted as 4.5 seconds, and the mid-range is equally quick.
But at cruise, it has a glorious, Volvo-esque, interior, and the loudest noise you can hear is a bit of tyre noise. It’d be interesting to get it on the motorway to see how relaxed it is.
The test drive is zero sales pressure as the only way you can buy a car is online. Read more
So many electric cars look like concept cars, albeit I now cant think of any, weird..
Maybe there aren't many/any?
To be most electric vehicles look like any other cars on the road and don't look any different...some are better than others....
My taxi aquaintance has swopped his MG ZS suv taxi for an MG5 electric estate.
Only real problems for him were 4 wheel bearings and otherwise "consumables"... Read more
MG seem to have a deal with one or more of the specialist taxi leasing firms.
Loads of ex taxi often under 2 years old MG5s seem to be showing up at auctions. They're probably not bad value to buy but equally don't do the residuals any favours....
Just seen an 17 reg Octavia Estate pass by, but it was LHD!
Is that possible?... Read more
One thing this thread has brought back to me is my desire for a MK1 Renault Twingo, a car never available in RHD. Of course the youngest of these are now about 15 years old, but a look on a website I use with cars for sale in Europe reveals plenty of real nice looking examples for not a lot of money.
Not everyones cup of tea, but I really like them!. ...
Living in a hardish water area I have always preferred non-smearing rainwater from our butt for rinsing cars and filling the screenwash bottle. But being mean with additives can result in microscopic plant life multiplying to form gunge which blocks the pump uptake filter resulting in a weak flow (a common MoT failure in old cars - beware, they'll sell you an overpriced new pump if they can) and ultimately, as has just happened to my rarely driven Audi A8, no flow at all. No amount of flushing and poking would clear it, not even an attempt at reverse flushing with a large syringe via the jets' pipework. I even tried nearly boiling water, then overnight Jeyes fluid which reputedly dissolves it. It didn't. So, in stark contrast to SLO's easy to work on 'take me back' cars (my TR7 access is merely by opening the bonnet), the wheel has to be removed and the arch liner folded back to reveal the reservoir and its pumps. So what should have been a simple task took most of an (enjoyable) afternoon. On prising out the bottom pump and then its filter, it was no surprise to see it resembled a small lollipop of congealed gloop with no filter mesh visible at all! The head lamp washer pump, placed higher in the tank, was relatively OK with only about 30% of its mesh occluded. It was interesting to note the date stamp on the reservoir as Sep 04, in a car registered Dec 05. I doubt if it had been seen since its installation. Anyway, all OK now, but I'll perhaps use standard British chlorinated tap water in future. And if your washers are starting to show symptoms of prostate trouble, take preventive action now! Read more
...I use autoglym btw...not cheap but it's excellent.

Took car for MOT yesterday. They couldn't do a emissions test as 'exhaust emits excessive dense blue smoke during acceleration.' I haven't had a problem with emmisions in the 18 years i have owned the car and i didn't notice any smoke when taking it to the MOT station.
the car has been off the road for 18 months as i have renewed the head gasket, had head skimmed, and all associated valve work (new guides, grind and lapped etc)... Read more
Thanks for replies. cleaned breather when rebuilding top end. Difficult to do many miles when not MOTed/taxed.
Maybe just assembly lube burning off?...
At last an automatic, even if it is only a dual clutch system.
I will be tempted to buy one, but only if the transmission proves to be more reliable than Ford's failed Powershift and VAG's failed DSG. Read more

Thanks for the replies. Might just wait a year or two and see what's around then.
Not going to be paying loads of cash to convert an MX5 to electric, think a better project car would be Porsche Boxster but I understand Porsche are working on an electric Boxster so let them do the hard work....
