Hi.
I'm on the verge of buying a car from a private seller.... Read more
I have been looking at car hire for UK trips. I have an older car, but I wanted a treat myself by hiring out newer cars etc... However, it is a pain, as the cheapest rentals seem to be at airports and so it means, I have to pay an arm and a leg to keep my car at airport parking. Airports are out of the way.... (unless these car hire places, will give me a car parking space!).
There are a number of local car hire places near my home, but hire costs are astronomical compared to airport hire......
Plus, it will help me decide, which will be my next car.... ... Read more
I always thought airport car hire carried an "airport access fee" surcharge, making it dearer than the similar hire from a city centre location. Perhaps this no longer exists?
Hi, my grandad passed away and we are looking to sell his pride-and-joy 1970 navy Audi 100 SL, with approx 100,000 miles. He was a mechanic by trade and so everything has been kept to the highest standard, though the car hasn't run for approx 10 years but has been kept inside a garage through this period. Would anyone be able to offer some advice on the best place to try and find a good home for the car? The car is located in Farnham Common, SL2. I'm also posting this message in the other forum area as not entirely sure where I should be posting this! Thank you. David Read more
when i worked in car rental in 1972 my favourite car to get to drive would have been the audi 100 gl automatic such that i promised myself when i could , i was having one. indeed i did . about 1978 i bought a one in mellow yellow . i loved it. the quote for a needed exhaust was tear inducing.. remember keys being locked in boot , and fishing them out via back seat.
seems to me most car advertising is now on facebook marketplace
In a previous article you acknowledge that the average of cars on the road is increasing. The reasons are not hard to find.
New car prices are rising because they are increasingly complicated by autonomous driving aids and digital connectivity which few potential buyers want or need. Many drivers reject this trend and choose to retain their existing cars for as long as possible. Read more
50% petrol, plus 10% diesel, plus 15% hybrids, plus 8.4 electric leaves 16.6% of the market - over half as much again as diesel- for … hydrogen? Steam? Elastic band? It’s not critical but if you can’t get this basic stuff rright what else may be wrong ?
I get WhatCar magazine every month and the PCP and Contract Hire deals are really confusing me.
I'll try to explain.... Read more
PCP is merely a loan, so you borrow all the cost of the car less the deposit and interest is therefore due on this amount, including interest on the money borrowed to pay the VAT, delivery charges etc etc,
Contract hire is renting and as above the VAT is treated differently. You do need to check mileage restrictiona on both, highly likely its only 5-6,000 a year. Once you increase this the costs can rise significantly....
Hi, first time posting a car forum so hoping somebody can help. My Audi A3 indicators and wipers stopped working today with no previous issue. I checked the fuses and there was no problem there. I then checked online and seen somebody suggest the remove and clean of the steering control module fuse (marked 100 in the fusebox). I done this and the indicators and wipers came back to life.
However, now the indicators and wipers are working the car wont start. If you turn the ignition key it wont crank at all. The P on the automatic gearbox is flashing which has never happened before. I override the gearbox and moved between the drive, neutral etc and with each switch the corresponding letter was flashing. I have disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals but still nothing. All of the electrics are working fine and the battery has plenty of charge. vI have rechecked all the fuses and everything appears fine. Could it be an immobilser issue that kicked in when the steering control module fuse was removed?... Read more
ISSUE RESOLVED
Replaced the fuse for the control unit for gearbox and the car is running again without the Park flashing on the gearstick
Hello
I have a Peugeot 206 which runs perfectly throughout the year until it gets hot. On hot days there is about 2 second delay in acceleration which is very worrying at junctions and roundabouts. It is currently in the garage but the mechanic can’t find a fault with it when it’s plugged in. Anyone have any ideas please Read more
Needs a proper Peugeot Planet diagnostic. There's a network of people with the equipment:

Approx £800 for 2 years servicing, MOTs and roadside assistance doesn't sound a very good deal - except for the VW dealers!
A dealer has suggested that i buy a new car on pcp to take advantage of a lower price and then pay this off straight away and keep the advantage of the lower price. Anyone done this? Read more
I did this recently.
No problems paying it off in 14 days and keeping the discount....
I had a day out to the new car museum up near Matlock yesterday. It’s quite a small place, but worth a visit. You get given a device with some headphones when you arrive to give a commentary as you walk round. There are some interesting cars!
The only disappointment was that you can have a drive of some of the cars, but at the moment that’s only happening at the weekend. Read more

Yes, went last week whilst up there on holiday. Tried to book a drive for the Tuesday but found out the same thing! ...
Private individuals are easier to spot at lying. I think traders must go to a special school for training. I used to like the "are you part exchanging your old car? My sister is going through a divorce and that would be great to cheer her up, I'll buy it from you myself"
