Been advised of an uneconomical repair with my car, which has always been mechanically trustworthy until the keyless start failed me before lockdown. I am in turmoil over what to do as the repairs will be in excess of the value of the car. It has done 105,000 miles and needs check a new ID controller unit and Keyless start control unit to 'see if it helps' as they are unsure of the issue due to an unexpected response on the ECU. They say it will then need reprogramming and resting but that other work may need doing if these modules don't sort the issue. It has done me a good service and in the climate of the times, I have to wonder whether it is worth attempting to fix or to sell as spare and repairs. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Is it just me or are not all but the majority of Uber drivers in London the worst drivers on the road (closely followed by Addison Lee). They seem to have the worst spacial awareness and a complete lack of observational skills of any road users, I drive cars, lorries and I also cycle and by far the worst are Uber drivers for cutting up, turning with no signals getting to close when overtaking (whilst cycling), doing 3 point turns in the worst places I could carry on all day but I won't.
Now I've had my rant what are the opinions of other back roomers when it comes to worst road users? Read more
Xileno said of motorcyclists "You develop a level of anticipation that you don't so easily in a car. In a car most likely just damaged metal, on a bike a day out with the undertaker."
When I was learning to drive a car the instructor guessed I was a motorcyclist because he thought I was taking up too much road space. That was the result of being overtaken so closely by a car in a single lane that it took off the panier on the right hand side of the bike....
If you don't know already, there's currently a major outage throughout the world for many websites due to some 'fault' at a major data centre provider. This includes many major websites, like Amazon, many newspapers, social media (I noted that Disqus is down), etc, including, ironically, the website Isitdownrightnow which monitors web pages to see if they have a fault.
No doubt the MSM and certain other elements will now be speculating that this is a 'hack' or similar by 'rogue nations', Russia bots' etc, etc, before any actual verifiable evidence emerges. Read more
Indeed, which is why its a very bad thing that this firm (I too had never heard of 'Fastly') and Amazon (AWS) dominate the market like a monopoly, rather like Google does on many other things and the tech giants do on social media....
I'm looking to remove the seats in the car in order to clean properly under them (my kids like making a mess!)
From what I can see on YouTube, it's necessary to put the seats back with an exact amount of torque. I can't seem to find this information anywhere.... Read more

Any one know the depreciation rates of EVs compared with ice cars? Read more
I'm surprised people aren't seeing EVs about. The main roads of Britain see to be littered with them as far as I can see. Loads of Teslas and new shape Leafs etc.
Seeing a surprising number of cars with the green number plates about as well....
Father-in-Law's Picasso threw up the engine management light. I scanned it and found the MAF was faulty, so replaced it with a proper Hella one from Euros. Cleared the codes and all was well. Well until a mile or so later and the EML came back on. Rescanned it and get the PO112 code saying its the IAT sensor.
I've started searching google but cant find a location for the sensor? A few random forum posts say its incorporated into the MAF? He's read the Haynes manual but says it isn't mentioned in the index?
My GoogleFu is weak on this. Anyone know the location of this sensor, or is it part of the MAF? Read more
The code would've been generated when he disconnected the MAF and ran the engine with it unplugged. In this situation the ECM cannot read air flow at all, hence a code relating to Mass Air Flow sensor open circuit.
Prior to that the engine may have suffered a loss of performance, and that could be a MAF fault. However the ECM would not recognise a fault unless the return signal from the MAF fell outside of the ECM parameters. This is highly unlikely. The ECM would not be able to tell the difference between a faulty MAF producing a low signal from a healthy MAF producing a low signal due to the car being driven lightly. The ECM does not know you have a caravan on the back. It merely reads the volume of air passing through the sensor and acts on the signal received. ...
Good to see Brits still pandering to the likes of VW and spending fortunes on their cars, a company trading on a long-gone reputation for reliability that not only deceives customers and impacts the health of everyone (Dieselgate) but also denies it happened in the UK courts whilst coughing up compensation for VW customers in other countries for the same thing.
Such a shame Brits can't buy cars from makes investing in the UK rather than making fun of it.

I would never ever buy a VW group product after the treatment from a large dealer group. They thought they were doing me a favour to sell me a top spec golf. I walked away then and will never return. Maybe they got their comeuppance with dieselgate.
