A lot of things have gone up in price since lockdown eased, some for justifiable reasons, others because of blatant profiteering.

Hi guys,
New to this page but hoping you all might be able to help! I am about to start a new job which means I’ll drive about 60 miles a day which will mostly be Motorway or A roads. I have 3k at a REAL push and found 2 cars. Main thing I’m wanting is running costs to be lowish and I do want a bigger car and one that looks good and reliable ! I have found 2, detailed below;
FORD MONDEO TITANIUM X 2lt Petrol 2010 77k mileage- good condition, new MOT brand new tyres, rear brakes and air con fixed has Bluetooth etc price is £2750- drives well (clutch is a bit high) and handles well.
VAUXHALL INSIGNIA EXCLUSIV CDTI 2lt 2009 81k mileage- Drives really well, 12 months mot no aux or anything (I assume that’s easy to sort...I hope) new tyres, 1 owner who has done minimal miles over the last 5 years (5k in 5 years)
Which would be the better car for what I need? Hopefully someone can help. Many thanks.

With such a small budget, I think you should focus on what is important and not necessarily what you want.
Choosing a big, good looking car is all very well, but that isn't going to help if it is broken down at the side of the road. Reliability is the most important factor, appearance isn't, neither (beyond what you actually need) is size. ...
Two days before collection date i got a call from dealers to say they couldnt register the new car with DVLA because of deregation and they do not know how long this process will take. Anyone ever come across this?

Hi, I am looking to buy a 1.6 turbo petrol Vauxhall Astra H. I want a reliable, preferably turbocharged car with a bit of kick to it. I considered the 1.4 twin charged Mk5 VW Golf, but I don't want to have to deal with timing chain issues. What do I need to be weary about the 1.6 turbo Astra H? Read more
Thing is, while the basic car is inherently reliable, as it ages, how many uncaring owners is it going to have been through since it was new?. Being a more powerful version of an older and cheaper car, it will very much appeal to the boy racer type. They will have thrashed it to within an inch of its life, and will probably have neglected on maintenance.
And in reference to SLO's comment on limiting your choice, on Autotrader there are a grand total of four Astra H 1.6 turbo's!. All are the 3 door (not sure if the engine was available in the 5 door body), and one of those four has a 'noisy gearbox'.
Of course there are particular circumstances here, but (I think) not unusual ones for an EV owner who needs to charge on route.
Reading a road test in the May issue of Top Gear magazine, featuring the VW ID4, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Volvo XC40 Recharge. On the way to the road test location, the Volvo visited an Ionity charger. Doesn't say what the power available was, but working out how much the electricity cost, along with the Volvo's average efficiency of 2.7 miles per kWh, it was apparently the equivalent of an ICE car doing 21mpg!. ... Just in case you are interested John, in the July issue of Classic Cars magazine there is a piece on the TR7, speaking to three of the design team involved with the car.
Which is following on from an article article looking at four affordable sporting classics, of which the TR7 is one. Read more
Thanks bbd, my TR7 is more affordable than ever, now it has passed the 40yr old threshold of VED and MoT exemption. Who knows - it might even start to 'appreciate'!
Hi,
Heard about a bloke who purchased a London taxi (2007 plate), but has struggled to insure it as a normal car ever since as most car insurance firms won’t go near it and taxi insurance want to sell him commercial use.
Any advice I can share?

Often not a viable one, either in terms of cost or travel time. I just looked up what it would cost me for a weekday rush-hour trip:...
