My Mazda reaches an intereresting stage in ownership this coming march. It will be 3 years old on 11/3 , finish it's 3 yr guarantee, due it's third service at a local dealer 5 miles away( the last in the 3 services paid for up front) with an MOT due at the end of the month. This coincides with a house move to an area that is some distance away from a Mazda dealership. There's more too!....it has only done 3500 miles since march 2020 when it had its 2nd service and with lockdown 3 I am only doing 6 miles a week mileage and as we all know, am being discouraged from being mobile and visiting anything non essential .

Shortages of semiconductor chips designed for cars has resulted in production mayhem in Germany, Uk and the USA.
With these essential components now almost exclusively manufactured in China and JIT car production, large manufacturers world wide including Audi and Ford in Germany has ground to a halt. Honda and JLR are affected in UK on top of Brexit delays.... Read more

You have to love how the US car manufacturers want production switched from consumer electronics to auto because it is hurting their businesses - were that to happen wouldn't the CE manufacturers businesses be hurt instead? :P...
On 2nd January my son took his car to Halfords Autocentre in Walsall for a headlight bulb replacement. Whilst there a Halfords technician reversed into my sons car badly damaging the drivers car door so that the locking mechanism no longer functions properly. The manager apologised and promised to sort a replacement door “in a couple of days”. A week later the manager asked my son to obtain a door and they would reimburse him, after I complained, the manager said that he would obtain a door. Now, over 2 weeks later Halfords are asking my son to arrange to take his car to a body repair shop. Presumably he will have to pay and be reimbursed and will be without a car for a number of days. Meanwhile he is driving a car that at best is inconvenient and possibly dangerous. Is this the level of customer service that other Halfords customers have experienced and do you think Halfords finds it acceptable?

Does anyone know anything about problems removing the sump on a Golf TDi 1.9? My garage have just called and said two of the bolts have sheared the where they screw in to and to replace that part they'll now have to remove the gearbox. I don't know what to make of what they're sayng to be honest. Any help anyone? Read more
<< They said they had a problem removing the two bolts at the rear and that it was probably down to the car being 17 years old >>
17-year-old bolts are quite likely to seize I suppose, and if the block and sump remained leak-free for several years that could well have happened, especially at a joint between steel and alloy. ...
Anyone know where I stand with this car? I bought it a year ago at auction and have a V5 which shows the correct chassis number - I know this as the manufacturer records from 1969 confirm matching body and engine. But the chassis marks on the car are all altered by one digit - overstamped or re-engraved. In addition I have an unconfirmed story of a police investigation in 2018 of 2 cars with the same reg plate which resulted in the allocation of the correct chassis number to my car, but retention of the number plate, which the other vehicle had to change. The owners of both were permitted to carry on driving them. My car had 20 years of continuous ownership prior to sale to me. It seems likely that my car was stolen at some stage, definitely before 2001, maybe many years ago, maybe in the US where it spent 20+ years. DVLA will not release any details of their investigation which allowed the number change. I cannot get any sense out of the very elderly previous owner. Id like to know whether I should report it again to get some documentation as to title, and if so who do I report it to? And what does it do to the value of a resale?
Thanks Read more
What is it or what happened to give rise to your belief that all might not be right with this vehicle, the V5 been updated with your name? at the DVLA

Today I changed the right break bulb and decided to have a look why the third break (which is on top of the boot) is not working. I got the unit out which has 5 small bulbs, I checked them all and none of them looked dead, so I moved them around and pushed them in better to have a better connection and when I checked 4 of them were working so I got the non-working 1 out, looked perfect put it back in and I think it gave a bad connection or something as all the back car lights went off as well as the lights from the speedometer which comes on the second position of the key, only the mileage and clock is on the dash board now. The radio lost all the saved stations but it is working still. I checked the fuse box and found small fuse number 30 gone, so I bought new ones from Halfords and replaced it but the car still won’t start and the rest of the indicators on the speedometer won’t come on. The starter of the car will not start to spin at all so I thought maybe the battery is bad and tried to jump start it but still nothing. So for me this should be a fuse but I have checked all the fuses and they are good apart from the big square ones which I’m not even sure are fuses. Any advice or suggestion will be much appreciated.
